Since Obama was elected I always wondered what happened to the anti-war protesters? I mean, maybe they weren't anti-war after all, maybe they were just anti-Bush.
It's time for all of us to be anti-war. Enough is enough!
I wonder if Friday is a snoozefest for our soldiers on patrol in our various wars.. I wonder. Wait I kinda know personally. It isn't, hell you really couldn't tell me what day of teh week it was most days.
Partisanship as usual. The only few party members who actually are CONSISTENT on the issue of war in this clip, it seems, are Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich. The Dems are cheerleading Obama's silly excursion into Libya, EVEN THO they were very much against the Iraq War, which, at least for some prowar folks, was rationalized THE EXACT SAME WAY! "We can't stand by while innocents are killed by a dictator."
WTF do you think Saddam was? A democratically-elected president?
I'm against all these stupid wars, but to use the SAME rhetoric FOR a war that your opponents made to justify a war YOU DIDN'T LIKE? That's just plain playing politics if you ask me. Disgusting...
If Bush had done this, there's no doubt in my mind that the vast majority of Dems would've opposed it. But because it's Obama's, they seem to think, "This is our one chance to show we're tough on bad people and can initiate our own successful wars in recent times as well and not let people think we're weak on defense." It's also kind of revealing that only a handful of Dems (if I'm not mistaken) have really criticized the Afghan surge as strongly as they criticized Bush's handling of the wars.
I mean, WHERE ARE ALL THE ANTIWAR PROTESTS that we saw so much during Bush's tenure?? They seem to have almost magically vanished since Obama came to power. When McChrystal was fired simply for criticizing Obama for being a douchebag to him, to a reporter for Time or Newsweek, Dems acted pretty Republican-like! "Fire his ass! He shouldn't be allowed to criticize the commander-in-chief in public to a reporter." Yadda yadda
But if it were a general criticizing BUSH's handling of the Iraq War, would the Dems have said he should be fired? I'm not so sure.
This partisan bullshit has gotta end! You're either AGAINST stupid wars that have no legit justification, or you're FOR em! There's no in-between. You can't be for the same kind of intervention that your opponents justified just because you have a president of the same party. Besides, there are dictators worldwide. Why only help the Libyans?
When you really think about it, Jesse Ventura's idea to have everyone run as an Independent is probably for the best. Parties tend to do little more than make everyone into a zombie who just parrots talking points and reinforce groupthink. Similar with many special interest groups as well.
If there's no party mechanism pressuring you to do this or that all the time and sacrifice your principles, it's surely much easier to stand by your convictions no matte WHO is pres.
@whoo689 True, outright banning factions is impossible... though eliminating parties is not. Making everyone run as an independent would eliminate primaries and voters voting party line, instead they would vote based on ideology.
I like Venturas ideas plus its constitutional since the constitution makes no mention of political parties nor primaries.
@whoo689 Big difference between Iraq and Libya. Bush sent the troops into a "stupid war" and overtoppled the government, leaving us stuck in a nation that has no hope of ever becoming democratic. Obama bombed Libya for a couple days and then threw it on NATO. That's not a war.
@whoo689 : who cares what the Dems think, he would be fired. The DOD works for the Pres, he is the Commander and Chief. It doesn't matter how much screaming or weeping the house may do, if the Pres wants one of his commanders fired, he might as well pack his bags.
@whoo689 : Bush wasn't that subtle. If Bush had been at the beginning of this conflict we would have boots on the ground already. He would have pulled them from Afghanistan and left behind a skeleton crew, just like he did when he invaded Iraq.

@whoo689 I agree about the dangers of partisanship. I encourage all people to disaffiliate if they currently have any political party membership.
