Read his book. Cziffra (1977): Des canons et des fleurs. Editions Robert Laffont, S.A., 1977. I do not know of an English version. The enlarged Hungarian version:
Cziffra György (1983): A'gyu'k e's vira'gok. Zenemu"kiado', Budapest.
I have never seen Cziffra speaking so much! I used to see him only playing, creating magic, charming our ears - and the only previous word (among very few others) was in that dialogue.
- I'm finished, Thank you.
- Thank you, mister Cziffra!
By the way, around 2 years ago there was a video of him improvising on The Hall of the Mountain King - a gloomy piece. Marcelmombeek had the video. But it was removed. Is there a chance to get it anywhere?
The Hungarians MUST build a monument to this legend!

(Cz) One of them was a officer of high standing of the cultural educational ministry and the other was Georges Ferency, pianist and a teacher of the music academy. So they caught me, and than my recital carrier started.
- With more than 10 years break.
- Oh, yes. First, I made a recital at the Bartók Concert Hall. And than I made and other one in the Concert Hall of the Music Academy (it was fulled with people all the time). After that I went to... Which theatre is that? At the opera...
- Yes, but it wasn't that, back then it was City theatre. So, I went everywhere in this way, and than in '56 I went abroad.
- It sould be reason.
- They didn't catch me than.
- And when was your last recital in Hungary?
- It was on the day of revolution... No, it was at the night before that...
- On 22 of...
- Yes, 22 October. People came into the concert hall in the mood of the revolution, and we performed Hungarian pieces (mainly Bartók, Kodály and something else).
The Italian conductor Mario Rossi conducted. He was a great man; he learnt the complete Bartók Piano Concerto, which is not a little task, because Bartók's music is complicated. I learnt it too, of course, so we played without partiture. The audience was amazed, because they said "the 2nd Piano Concerto is unplayable!". Yes, almost. The 1st and the 3rd are much more digestible, but the 2nd... I learnt all the 3 books of it for mind and hand. Few days after that, we were on the border.
- Someone entered into an espresso, when I was playing on the piano and I was improvising (for myself, there were only a few guests; it usually fulled with guests who sit around my piano, mainly young people). I've used some American motifs and paraphrases (I improvised in front of them, so it wasn't really planned). And the two men, who came suddenly raised their head (like racehorses), and they said "that's what we want!".
When was this? It looks like very close to his death

PART 1 (corrected)
- Who remembered that "Georges Cziffra, pianist"?
- Someone entered into an espresso, when I was playing on the piano and I was improvising (for myself, there were only a few guests; it usually fulled with guests who sit around my piano, mainly young people). I've used some American motifs and paraphrases (I improvised in front of them, so it wasn't really planned). And the two men, who came suddenly raised their head (like racehorses), and they said "that's what we want!".
