  • Wait? Are people seriously arguing about cruelty? Lets ban the use of car horns going past trees while we're at it, then!

  • lol

  • No Offense. But I find it quite funny. LOL

  • Wow, a cat that turns into an owl in relaxed state!

  • @HeilHilter lol. Now all it needs is a flashy background and some music and the transformation scene will be complete. :D

  • @HeilHilter Haha laught very hard at your name, but then I realised it wasn't Hitler but Hilter. Still funny though Sieg Heil

  • @HeilHilter Haha laughed very hard at your name, but then I realized it wasn't Hitler but Hilter. Still funny though Sieg Heil and carry on.

  • That is so awesome looking, but how exactly does this work as a "defense" Mechanism?

  • @japanfangirl it makes them harder to see by predators :) like if they're standing on a branch and the tree behind them is very slim, they can kind of squeeze themselves into the shape of the tree by doing that

  • @japanfangirl Can't you think for yourself. What are you a girl? .. oh wait What are you an American? ahh snap!. Never mind and carry on.

  • lol, japanfangirl. lolz. ROFL. LMAO. u r an american. lookt at yer profile. lolz

  • I think we should break out all of the animals in our zoos at night time

  • @OrganicStuff1 And then what? Oh yeah, because they aren't in their natural habitat they will most likely die. Great idea...

  • there making a big deal abt it cause its wrong let treat you like they do to those poor animals and see if u change your mind....moron grown a heart and put yourself in there place

  • theyre japanese , why arent they killing the owl brutally and fucking selling it on the black market?

    scumbag japanese whale eating pigs

  • haha Owl is like WTF O___O

but how do you even get the idea to scare an owl with a jack-in-the-box? I know it's japanese TV but seriously. Like were they just sitting there thinking what funny stuff to do next and one guy jumps up saying "I KNOW! Let's scare an OWL! :D"

  • Long owl is long

  • oddly that scares me

  • It looks like he lost 10 pounds in two seconds!

  • LOL that is so awesome!

Predator: "Aww, what a cute owl! Looks delicious!"

    Owl: *morphs* "*Hissssssssss!*"

Predator: "OMG! WHAT IS THAT THING!? AHHHH!!"

  • /watch?v=Es52WQKLumI

  • @Deuk1 why?

  • @MyHugestFan because it's the full version?

  • next time show the whole video... it does more than just imitate a HAWK (not a cat)

  • Aw so cute and funny!!!! <3 it :)

  • LMAO!!!!!! Epic Win!!!!

  • @FelineNia Oh yes I'm sure it's scarred for life. We'd better get PETA and Martin Sheen to tell the world how cruel the Japanese are to their owls. Those yellow devils. Holding a springloaded box 10 feet away from a live animal with the intention of capturing its reaction on film! How dare they!

  • @Rumblo love your sarcasm.

  • Now that is pretty damn cool!

  • stupid people

  • Its a Northern White-faced Owl (Ptilopsis leucotis)

  • does anyone knows the name of that animal???

  • @caesardv it's the Southern White-faced Scops Owl - Ptilopsis granti

  • THanks a lot!!!

  • its pulling in its feathers it would be big fat and fluffy if you wouldn't of made it jump A hole

  • lol, man how thin it got.

  • owls are fucking weirdos man

  • It's actually a cat that looks like an owl when it's relaxed!

  • @eiffe no it's NOT

  • devil

  • In his own environment you won't spot it with this camouflage.

  • So funny xD

  • That is so awesomeness owls are cool

  • I thought it was to look more like a cat.

  • that's actually a defense mechanism. it shrinks to look like a tree branch

  • check that out!!!

  • it's cute@@

  • O RLY?

  • YA RLY

  • @Poszukiwacz86

    NO WAI!!

  • NO WAI!!!!!

    thats pretty ridiculously cute.

  • ma perchè non ve ne andate a fare in culo? che ci trovate di divertente a spaventarlo??

  • What the hell

  • sorry typo it's *eagle*

  • mao = cat

    tou = head

    ying = eagle

so y is owl a cat bird??

I thought it surpose to be called "cat headed ragle"

    lolxx ... :)

  • its just wilfing

but its still a cat bird

  • PEOPLE! its a fucking owl that does that naturally, they arnt being MEAN, they arnt doing anything wrong. its a natural defense thing, and they are just showing people what it can do. They arnt shooting it. They just startle it. LIEK OMG CALL THE PETA WAAAAAH!

  • @ltdigitalblu thats whats up

  • GOJIRA!!

  • LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

  • youre stupid. they arnt doing anything wrong. koreans beating dogs in the head with bats and blow torching their fur off is disgraceful. dumbass.

  • o_e

  • WHAT THE FUCK.

  • DOude cant u c that it doesnt like that

  • I read that if it sees a smaller bird it scare it but if bigger bird approaches it tryes to shrink and look like a stick.

(don`t think that it looks anything like a stick but who know, maybe in a fores it would be hardly vissible)

  • @@ 這會變成這樣 超神奇的

  • pranayama

  • it probably shrinks itself to resemble a hawk like bird to scare things off

  • thats actually a good idea.......

  • You notice the color of the owls feathers, and how it kind of looks like a log or branch? You seeing why he did it now? Yeah... there ya go. Good job.

  • O_O

  • Scared the owl so bad he lost ten pounds like THAT! Japanese are very strange..( O_o);

  • DITTOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • so its natural response is to contract, reduce body mass and hide better?...fascinating. love the coat on this one.

  • WTF

  • meow meow

  • coward owl but that was a baby owl

  • Maybe this is fake FAKE

  • O RLY?

  • its feathers get tighter ahd then it looks like a cat

  • diet shake !

  • Looks like a Saw Whet Owl. Gorgeous.

  • Scops Owlactually . Resembles a miniature "milky eagle owl"...

  • what an amazing ability! : D in a forest you totally wouldn't tell that from a part of a tree..nice! haha and well, funny too hehee

  • that's incredible lol

  • why are people saying this is cruel...

if they squeeze them with their hands, thats cruel.

it is a nature instincts for an owl when it is frightened by jack in a box, much like a cat turn fluffy and arch it's back.

  • LOL. You're absolutely right. Everybody knows that, in nature, the owl's natural enemy has always been the jack-in-the-box!

  • omg. Nice owl.

    xD

  • what the hell was that? Did that owl really just shrink or was it a special effect?

  • Beautiful bird, haha it was so startled

  • I agree with 7anya if animal cruelty is your issue find the adress of that video where the girl stomps a puppy. There's way worse things being done to animals then spooking them a little then feeding and housing them for the rest of their life.

  • Oh I heard about that, and they crushed kittens too

    it was so disturbung

  • where did you hear about it?

  • They mentioned a story on either 20/20 or 60 min but didn't dare show any video or images. But years later, I stumbled upon those photos on ebaum's world - it was disturbing. It took place in Japan, and each photo showed each phase as the kitten was being crushed by her heel

  • what did you look up? (im not curious) i dont want it to happen, but im still interested to see what really happaned

  • I didn't search for it, but it was under weird or interesting photos. I mean, I don't know if you want to see it, but I'm sure if you google it, you'll find something

I know what they did was terrible, but I was curious to see too....

  • i did google it, it didnt work i dont know what to google

  • Just goes to show anyone can find anything offensive, If anything its nothing as bad as they show on the discover channel.

  • One beautiful owl... never seen such a beautiful thing.

  • So true! it just seems kinda wierd that the owl just sorta shrinked alittle instead of being all threatened.

  • sorry,im japanese and that is a tv proogram just for entretenment ive seen it... they just send videos and make entreviews to show them on saturday morning.. not big deal lets just enjoy the video, cause anyways that owl scares xD

  • People are making waaay too big of a deal about animal cruelty in this. There is A LOT worse out there that people should be fighting against, not an animal reacting to a jack-in-the-box.

And the video is amazing.. The wonders of nature.

  • It's really not hurt. Owls do that sometimes because they need to hide. It's so obvious. Read some books and you'll find out. Please believe me. I'm an owl expert

  • ll [ôlô]

    ll (:::::)

    ll=HH=======

  • You tube attention whore

  • No, you got it all wrong. It's a cat that transforms into an owl when not scared.

  • Most of you people are idiots. The owl isn't hurt, it's just mildly startled-- this is a natural camouflage response that would help it blend in with tree branches in the wild and be less visible to possible predators. They do it all the time-- all he's doing is tucking his feathers in and turning his body.

Learn something about animal behaviour before you make accusations of cruelty.

  • Damn awesome :D free transform ftw

I would like to have one...

    i'm still ROFL

  • Yeah, did you know that scaring a bird totally always kills it? I think because it wasn't read the Scriptures, it goes straight to bird Hell, too. And then, the person who scared it totally always writhes their hands in joy and says "muaaahahahahah!" ...or, it's no big deal.

  • Not at all cute, or funny. These jerks scared the owl just to see it's reaction. I have no respect for individuals like this. Good thing I believe in karma.

  • I agree, idiots... `.´

  • omg!

  • lol, why does it do that?! To make itself look less appetizing or something?

  • nothing funny bout scaring animals that you keep chained. its pathetic

  • DUDE, SERIOUSLY! would people stop with this sort of crap?? pathetic my arse, I do that to my 4 months old baby newphew sometimes. It isn't wrong or right, just a little harmless mischievousness... I suppose now you'll tell me that I'm pathetic cus I say BOO! to little children.

  • i totaly agre to notcoldsoup, its harmless so chill dude

  • it's harmless cus me booing my nephew isn't remotely as scary for him as the thunder and the lightning....or the car's engine when it starts...or seeing the face of the ugly old lady down the street. These things may make a baby cry but they ain't gonna do a child permanent psychological damage that lasts a lifetime. There is something called overprotectiveness. And as for this being pathetic, it isn't any more pathetic than the existence of human carnivores.

  • you are right about that , there is a lot of pathetic behaviour going around, for overfed people are bored, spoiled and ignorant. It's pathetic to cage (or leash) a healthy animal. cruel even to make fun of it when you have done so.

  • humans are laughing at an animal because of something cute that it does...is only natural when we come in contact with any other species. Unless you want us to completely remove ourselves from ANY contact. what does it matter? it doesn't know any better. Intelligence creates suffering. It's not actually making fun when it doesn't know it's being making fun of.

  • And it isn't anymore pathietic than the fact that we keep Man's Best Friends on leashes when we walk them out in parks and such.

  • i don't have a dog and i dont eat meat. we should leave animals alone, they have their own experiences and perceptions whih we don't understand. they don't need us. And if we cannot fight the urge to leash and scare another creature, well, be a man, take a familymember and make a clip about that.

  • I'm sure you're very opinionated....Next thing you'll tell me is that you'd never kill an ant, because it has its own very important role in the anthill monarchy. I do have a dog. It's leashed some of the time. And I (and mankind in general) happen to understand dog behavior very well, unless, of course, you believe you'll publish something that flies in the face of half the world's animal behavioralists' research since Darwin.

  • that's right.. i 'll never kill an ant or a fly. is that wrong.. am i a bad person?

  • please, don't gimme that. at least try to counter some of my arguments without going into rhetorical questions about good and evil. If you've never killed an ant, then I'm a Klingon and you're a liar. Wait, how about, a dust mite in your wardrobe?....I wonder how many colonies of those you slaughtered so cold-bloodedly without even realizing. If you kill dust mites, but not flies, why, that's just discrimination! I guess that makes you not a bad person per se, just kind of...nutty.

  • moreover, my dog is pretty happy all the time. even when it's leashed. In fact, it would die of depression and starvation if I let it go in the wild. Cus, you see, domesticated animals (such as this owl) cannot survive in the wild and they've completely grown to live in symbiosis with humans, meaning, they're not actually scared or tortured, it's a symbiotic relationship.

  • haha let's hope those years in girl scout training count for something... of course I don't have the heart to ABANDON my dog, to whom I've fed and nourished since it was born. What am I? Crazy?

  • if you read back, you'll see that you do exactly what you blame me for: asking rethorical questions about good-bad, crazy-sane. setting an animal free has got nothing to do with abandoning but all with love. maybe you are scared it won't come back to you.. not once

  • You mean how I was using rhetorical devices (hardly, I was pretty much just being snippy, and never did I once attempted to take a moral "higher ground" like you so often love to do, except for when it made sense, as in the abandoning an animal part) to support my rebuttals, whereas you used them to avoid responding to my counter arguments logically by being all I-kill-flies-not-I'm-a-higher-being?

  • regarding peole eating animals....I'm sorry but Homo sapiens are omnivores and only evolution can change that, not animal rights activists. I wonder why people don't complain when it comes to plants...they're life as well...but I guess we can't completely remove our only species from the food web. we're all part of the animal kingdom, and animals are gonna eat animals whether we help them or not, like the mice that this owl has consumed. Be a man? why? I'm a woman. are you a misogynist?

  • i am also a woman. regarding eating plants.. you are right. it's a matter of discussion. do plants have feelings? whenever i eat i feel concious about it, are you? and i feel a gratitude to live on this beautiful planet with such diversity. i just hate to see any harm done. and i don't like leaches and chains. do you?

  • I just love your completely off-the-mark rhetorical ...uh...blunders...it makes arguing with you much easier you see. No, my dear and fellow member of the female gender, plants don't have feelings due to their distinct lack of a nervous system. Gratitude? to whom? your folks maybe. please don't tell me that you thank the earth or Gaia, it's not helping your rep as a nu-...oh nevermind. I do like my serial killers tightly chained behind bars.

  • a little small minded to see the nervoussystem as the only source for feelings. just try for once to see things from another perspective.. there are so many other dimensions possible for feeling and communicating. nothing wrong with being humble

  • (oo, here comes MY snippy "rhetoric about crazy-sane", watch out!)uh....great, you ARE a Gaian. Why did I even bother? it's not about "smallmindedness" it about being logical pal, if you're going to justify your stance using The Great Unknown (tm) it ain't gonna work. Because I can go all Giant Spaghetti Monster on you as well. No for this debate to continue in any sane way, stick to scientific facts (not that I care that it continiues).

  • you see, the mere existence of our species as it is generates "mass murders" of countless various organisms from germs to plants to animals. Most of these are unavoidable, unless we morph into plants or get trapped in another dimension or cease to exist. Animal life cannot continue without having other life as its lifeforce....that means, er, eating. So enjoy the taste of your salad, let it fill your taste buds for it is the bountiful offering of nature to us, and it's ok to eat, really.

  • amazing and funny

  • kwel

  • thats so cool

  • cool

  • cat0wnl

  • XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

  • HAHA! LMAO!

  • Cute! They're almost all feathers.... weigh hardly anything.
