  • Amazing tune, soulful...but I can never keep a straight face when ol Crosby comes sauntering on over to the piano, looking half lost, flying high...then just snaps into back up vocals.

  • @millermb1956 me too... me too....

  • I am a simple man and i sing a simple song.

  • it makes me sad and miss all the ones i loved.melancholy but sweet

  • In that DVD comes out this video?

  • David crosby stumbles out of the corner, high as hell, and lays

down that masterful vocal accompaniment..what a boss

  • I just want to hold you, I don't want to hold you down...

  • i came here from a skate video with this artists song "better days" i'm glad i did

  • Why does David Crosby come walking in like a creeper and slowly gets his face closer and closer to Graham Nash's face? lol

  • @Scratch5591 tuning purposes...you need to hear each other to do effective harmony.

  • This is breathtakingly beautiful. Not just a very good song. It's a GREAT, GREAT song. What a talent...

  • Reign over me...

  • so beautiful, simply lovely.

  • lovely....moving..

  • I wish this song would never end.

  • @EmpTrajann

    Me either..

  • Amazing song... Amazing voice... Painful love!

  • How Can someone dislike this video?!

  • @DaFreakingNapzter Good questions require good answers: It is probably the video quality uploaded that is not to be liked, else, Nash's deep introspectoin, feelin' and talent just can't be disliked nowhere in the universe..

  • i think i'm going to name my first child after this man

  • This is a great song, and so is Military Madness. Can't remember the one he sings for his Dad, 4 and 20? or something like that. I'll find it.

  • @DenCath5209

That song, 4 and 20, if I don't remember bad, was sung by Stephen Stills. You cand find it in a record named "Stephen Stills Live" (I suppose nowadays you will find it in CD). That was an interesting live record with one acoustic side (with a beautiful version of "Everybody's talkin") and an electric side (with a non less spectacular version of "Rocky Mountain Way")

  • @fernandodelatorre: The original 4 +20 song was on the second album when the group became Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. The name of that album in Deja vu. CSN and CSN & Y were the early super groups.

  • @pmoyer50 . Yes, you are right. I still have those old records that I bought in the 70's. But my prefer version is that one Stills sung by himself in his alive record. Anyway both versions are great, as all those records they made alone or with the group

  • @fernandodelatorre: I'll have to check out the live version you're talking about. Did you ever listen to any songs played by Chris Stills - the son of Stephen Stills nonetheless? Some talents are inherited. I remember buying "Songs for Beginners" when it first came out in vinyl. I recently downloaded it onto my ipod. It brings out great memories in very turbulent times.

  • @pmoyer50 I never heard about Chris Stills. I will try to listen something from him, I'm really curious about that. I really recommend you that "Stephen Stills Live" with an electric side and an acoustic one. This is an old record, from the 70's.

  • @fernandodelatorre: Type in Chris Stills on You Tube and will find out. Maybe, I can download the "Stephen Stills Live" off of itunes.

  • I bought "Songs for beginners" in London in 1972 and I felt so lucky as that L.P. was never released in Spain. Those songs (and that wonderful first "G.Nash & D.Crosby with "Southbound train" and "Immigration man" ) influenced me deeply even in my own music, I remember that time as if it was yesterday, it was a great time (maybe because I was only 18?)

  • Superb.

  • Yes He Dated Joni Mitchell and also David Crosby. They both wrote songs for her. These guys are Old now but as and old hippie, I will never forget them. I wish the younger generation would listen to these guys instead of RAP and Country and all the other crap. Music is just not the same anymore.

  • @surferrandys They DO listen believe me- my kids and friends do listen and love it all - as well as RAP country drum'n'base which i as an old hippy love too. we and it all needs eachother to balance x

  • He wrote this right after Joni Mitchell broke up with him. She was in Greece and sent him a telegram. Pretty sad.

  • @immortalraven17 and then Joni Mitchell began her estranged relationship with James Taylor?

  • What a performance.

  • My dad showed me how to play this song on the piano when I was 13, now I'm gonna be 21 and I still play it

  • Joni <3

  • oh my goodness man, this song is so sad so touching especially on the opening scene of REIGN OVER ME...so sad to think of the people that lost their families or loved ones in 911 or to ANY unforseen tragedy...thats what this song means...that scene will make you cry if you have a true heart

  • Beautiful song.

    Right from the heart.

Has anyone the piano sheetmusic of this song or can tell me were I can get it?

    Marcel

  • @marcelgibsonfender Are you saying you can't plunk this out on the piano?

    Dude, just listen.

  • Wow, I really want to punch 9 people in the face

This song is beautiful and god bless all you people that love it and that LIKEd it

  • I first heard this song on "Reign Over Me" and thought it was some of the most beautiful music ever.

  • well seeing how american idol aint about music i dont know Graham nash crosby stills and young let their unique qualities personalize the pure origion of music which is a gentle fragile thing and it takes real people who are ready to open their minds and hearts american idol is about who has the best disguise and who can make their fake music sound intresting to robots some might call them people

  • Well yes there legends but how would they do on American Idol :)

  • poxa ate que fin eu encontrei essa musica

  • Why do Crosby Nash tunes always give me goosebumps!?!?!

  • @odaxelagnia get wat XD

  • If anyone has the sheet music on piano for this song please send it to me.im singing this song soon and i cant find the music sheet anywhere.

  • You know that question where someone asks you "would you rather be blind or deaf?".... i never knew till now. I choose blind.

  • @JG00DE1 Definitely agree with this guy, i would prefer the blindness too. Hearing at music like this bring us peace to our souls, wich every time gets more filled with torment becouse of the shit that our eyes show us.

  • @JG00DE1 yeah iagree it would be better to be blind rather than deaf for the music, but at the same time, think of titties

  • Graham Nash was our treasure after we got it all together.....it's like the marshmallow test....the best for last!

  • when you hear this song for the first time you never want to end .... is a beautiful song ... there is no talent like this .. ♫ ♫.

  • @LUKADAVID91 First time I have ever heard it.. Am a CSNY too.. Dunno what CD this is from.. Ended way too soon!

  • Laurie - I suppose I wasn't that simple. . . .

  • "I wish I could see you once again across the room.... like the first time.... I just wanna hold ya, don't wanna hold ya down....."

    Still makes me cry!

  • every time i am moved to tears.

  • I always loved this song. Now I remember why I named my 1st born after this guy and that was almost 27 years ago.

  • miss you so

  • How lucky to be living in those years ... and I was there!

  • Dedicated to the one I love... hurt

  • Le morceau est magnifique mais la fin avec David Crosby est tout simplement magique. Quelle voix ce Graham Nash!

  • There's no reason for there to be any dislikes on this song..people have nothing better to do :-\ ..Beautiful Song!

  • this is music...

  • graham nash reminds me of my next door neighbor

  • Thank you for writing this one

  • It must've taken a shit-ton of balls to perform this song live for the first time with Joni in the audience.

  • I created an account just to comment on this tune, after asking Hippie1944 to put it up as the feature on his channel, where a lot of my original music resides. This is a song that has had a large influence on me. Over the last week I think I've listened to it 25 times or more. CSN has had a great impression on me over the years (still do and always will) and I just wanted to share this sweet little tune with any of those who enjoy my own music.

    peace,

    Paul Larson

  • @TheHuckleberryman THANK PAUL I JUST FOUND IT!!AND SHARED IT WITH A FRIEND AND HAD A PROFOUND EFFECT..Ithink that the hippie dream is stil alive and the coming of the self is inmininent and collective individuation will leave out human history ,for a world made of a single entity.....we have the tools now!!

  • pure genius

this song is a masterpiece and csn(y) was one of the best bands ever

    rock still lives on

  • Simply perfect with David by his side.

  • I am 15 years old and say this is a great song!!! Not this 50 Cent Lil Wayne Shit !!

    greetings from Swiss

  • @hakana1d this got nothin to do with age, its just taste

  • @hakana1d i am 12 years old and what is this

  • @odaxelagniaproject what you are actually listening to, is a song. my friend, it's a song.

  • @dylanCongTu You didn't get it right

  • @hakana1d Yo man...keep learning the proper chords and melodies....it's what is being lost in our world. It would be good to know your inspirited by these songs. I'm just 41...missed these songs as they came around by a few years, but I can aways learn from the past. Cheers.

  • @hakana1d your right on about that my man graham nash rocks

  • @hakana1d: Take it from one who spent his entire teen years during the sixties - you have good musical sense and taste.

  • @hakana1d I have no idea why people care how old you are, i hate good songs being littered with comments from kids that think they're amazing because they listen to music like this. please stop, thank you X

  • @hakana1d Same here !

  • @hakana1d @ Same here! Just saw Reign over me. Great movie, great first song.

  • Joni Mitchell crushed his heart

  • beautiful !

  • this song is just so awesome to me ! I JUST SIMPLY LOVE THIS SONG

  • everytime i hear this, i shed a tear. It just hits so deep. So pure. Perfect

  • This is a wonderful version without strings. It was on the B side of the single "Chicago" (1971)

  • why did Crosby even step in.. He added to the intensity of the song without even trying..what made them do that..artistry?

  • what a voice the best

  • OH MY GOD !!!! I LOVE THIS MUSIC !!!

  • One of my favorite tracks on "Songs For Beginners" :-)

    Wonderful simple song, very emotional.

  • Es una sencilla y bella canción. Y la voz de Graham Nash le da ternura. Hermosa.

  • @samujokelainen Whoa, get a life. This song is way more gorgeous than anything those hillbillies could come up with.

  • @samujokelainen Hey, how about you just piss off? Sounds good to me.

  • good song, and i'm so frightened by his loooooong tin :-)

  • Superb! I could listen to this forever. Better than the studio version.

  • thanks steph <3

  • Another of the one-in-a-million greatest vocalists...

  • reminds me of last summer....it was the best summer ever

  • I really like this version better than the studio one. Great song!

  • David Crosby is just so cruisy

  • ... play this at my funeral... such a calming song in the sea of chaos we find around us at times...

  • one of my favorites

  • Amazing track, he is one of the uncredited heroes of modern music. Great lyrics, touching vocal performance and an uncanny ear for melody.

  • Amazing vocals & emotion - Graham Nash was untouchable during the early 1970's He deserves more credit for his contributions, songs, and influence on music. !!

  • One of my all time favorites since I was a teenager.

  • Great song! Really can feel the emotion in it.

  • me too--how had we missed for so long?!

  • We just saw that movie last weekend and that's where I heard it, too, for the first time. I LOVE IT!!!!!!

  • I loveeeee this song. Ugh.

  • when these guys are all gone it's gonna really suck.

  • So many memories with this song. Love it!!

  • the melody in this song is so perfect, it gives me goosebumps

  • Brilliant. So simple and melodic. They don't write 'em like this any more.

  • Songs for Beginners is the CD by Graham Nash

  • heard this at the beginning of the film reign over me, absolutely love it, anyone got this exact version on mp3, if so message me. thanks

  • Always my favorite Graham Nash song. So simple yet says so much.

  • Great !!!

  • Songs for beginers, one of the best albums of that era.

  • it was rita coolidge, he was very in love with her.

    wonderful voice

graham is one of the best songwriters ever,

and has a wonderful good heart

  • @MrMoshe65 Nope. It's well-known and well-documented by Mr. Nash himself that this was written for Joni Mitchell. Yes, he was involved w/Rita Coolidge in 1970, after the breakup w/Joni. See the David Crosby song "Cowboy Movie" from his solo album "If I Could Only Remember My Name." Rita, who was involved w/Stills and was then "stolen" by Graham, is "Raven," the "sweet young Indian girl" character in the song.

  • reminds me of an old friend that I wish I could see across the room again...but, not really

  • it makes me want to cry, for some reason. it kind of empathises with everyone. x

  • @FawnBambi That's the secret of Graham's success - touching hearts with his songs. He does it every time.

  • ça vieillit pas d'un pet ;trop beau...

  • Per Thalassa!

  • Joni Mitchell

  • He wrote this song after he broke up with, dang, can't remember her name but she was a singer also. He also wrote a few other songs about her. He really loved her.

  • Joni Mitchell?

  • @JohnnyJoe yea you're prob right my friend. Have killed a few brain cells since he wrote that song so sometimes my memory is there and sometimes it's on cloud 9.

  • reign over me

  • This song discusses a hard-to-describe feeling very simply and eloquently. "I wish that I could see you once again across the room" sums up the way I feel about my losses. *sigh* I'm sick of emotion

  • vraiment dommage que les francais ne connaissent pas nash et crosby ....ils preferent ecouter ce vaux rien de mickael young

  • I did not know this song until today. Amazing, of such a simple & pure beauty. ! One of the best songs I have ever heard.

  • OK, here's one I'm looking for, if any of the Graham Nash fans out there can hook me up. Does anyone out there have the video for a mid 80's song he did called Innocent Eyes? I remember seeing this video on MTV, John Ritter from Three's Company was in the video. Can someone out there post it?

  • this is beautifull, i rmember ondon in the 70, when i was there, and everywhere it was listening Nash...

  • graham nash band so beautiful song to me hahahaha!!!!!!

  • so beautiful

  • Makes me feel like I'm 17 again.

  • loveit

  • beautiful, like the first time i heard it

  • Often a mark of a great song is the fact that when stripped back to just an instrument or two and a couple of voices it still retains every ounce of poignancy.

  • Very touching, and very poignant.

  • ace..

  • that is one talented fucker. love him and all his music.

  • simply perfect.

  • so kind of "soft" this song =) i like it

  • One of my favorites from one of my favorite artists. Graham is a vocal talent from his days singing three part harmony with the Hollies and helping write all their early hits, to being the high harmony vocal in CS&N, to tender, well written and well performed ballads like this as a solo artist. Check out Chicago from that first album as well.

  • David Crosby kind of reminds me of the lion from the wizard of oz in this clip for some reason. I want that jacket

  • Dude! i thought the same thing!

  • yea..never been so much in love and hurt this way.. :'( Life sucks

  • i just want to hold you, i don't want to hold you down. simple but perfectly pure.

  • I bought the record, songs for beginners. great album

another good song is sleep song.

  • Awesome, one of the best songs ever written!

  • i love how the guy comes in for the last like 2 secs, but still a great song, and it fits perfectly for reign over me, powerful stuff

  • Viper....That GUY was David Crosby.....Sad to see you never of CSNY before...

Do some seaching and YOU will find some great stuff.... Crosby, Stills, Nash, Young...

  • yeah I know how it feels-wanting to be with someone so bad but knowing they dont dont feel the same about you, and wanting to go back to the beginning. great song though

  • absolutely fantastic 90,000 views? an insult, fantastic

  • song for beginners... is the album some great tunes

  • women are evil

  • i love this song but it makes me cry sometimes my girl broke up with me and is dating my suposed best friend

  • Ah.. you'll be ok. Just get back on your feet.

  • This song was used over the opening credits of "Reign Over Me."

It's just another song that makes me think of the woman I will always love, and how much I miss her.
