  • Do you have Lighten Up the Load live anywhere on video? Justin sang it in the mid 90s for me in Chicago after I asked him for a week's worth of shows in a row. I have the B side of it, but would love to find it live.

  • @NLfeistyyank

Hi mate.. I think i've got this somewhere amongst my boots.... will check and get back to u...

  • i was at their last ever gig in Glasgow. my friend (who is a big music buff) said she'd never heard a vocalist sound so good live.

  • if anyone wants a copy of 'drowned on dry land', send an e-mail to: dnldslvstr@yahoo.com and i can send it to you. it's a quality electro-acoustic radio version. no cost, no signing up to anything. just want to spread the love to dels fans.

  • @dnldslvstr Thanks again for sending me that! It's wonderful to have a permanent copy of it!

  • @dnldslvstr Just emailed you, thanks!

  • I fell in love with this band in th beginning of the 90s. I think I'm falling for it again...

  • Iain looks so cool smoking on stage......makes me sorry i gave up ;)

  • Outstanding....Drowned on dry land is so great...Love JC`s expressions on his face while singing....I wish I was there....

  • I LOVE this song. Thank you for posting this. Love the song's story.

  • one of the best and most under- rated lyricists ever... in my humble opinion! Phenomenal talent, great upload, cheers x

  • I loved Del Amitri, their songs just fit with the times I was going through, saw them play a few times, and sitting watching this just brings everything back. So the bus is pulling out and grounded here with you.. sigh.

  • This song will forever remind me of a 7 year bitter/sweet affair. The lyrics perfectly describe the desire and guilt of an adulterous relationship - so good and so wrong. Del Amitri was the soundtrack to my life with her - then it ended. Saw the Justin Currie at ULU not long after the breakup and when he played this it was emotional to say the least.

  • were did the song drowned on dry land come ? is it on a album ? single ? EP ? someone point me in the right direction...

  • @Serioussmile51

Drowned On Dry Land was never a B-side, and has only been officially released on the the live VHS tape "No Better Location".

  • @JustinCurrieFan cheers for taking the time to tell me matey...

  • @Serioussmile51 It's an old B-Side, possibly from the same era as Be My Downfall.

  • @fingersmaloy thanks for that mate. i`ll search ebay for it. once again thak you for thank you for taking the time write me.

  • It's so weird...I have been listening to their music for a few years now (thanks to Scrubs...the soundtrack to that show is amazing, no matter what season) and I never bothered to look up their videos on youtube till now. They look different than what I imagined...not bad, just different lol.

I love their sound though and their lyrics always hit home for me:).

  • there's a little foreign cafe that's growing its own steak. just D for that.

  • at around 2:40 when it all goes quiet, whats justin laughing at?

  • Are they still touring? Never did get to one of their gigs much to my regret.

  • @schirmmutze

Del Amitri does not exist anymore. Singer/songwriter Justin Currie is stil active though. He has made two solo albums ( What Is Love For and The Great War). Justin is currently touring, see his "My Space"

  • @schirmmutze

You missed a treat. Del Amitri were brilliant live. I saw them 4 times in the 90s.

  • Only 1 word..........CLASSIC.....

  • guitar is in open D tuning with a capo at the 5th fret..... (DADF#AD).....fucking awesome!!!

  • The words to this are very cool....

  • love that voice

  • great music gets better with time

  • This band has influenced my band so much you would never believe it! My band is now over 16 years old

  • @JustinCurrieFan as requested! :

if you've not heard of Kevin McDermott, check out his album A Terrible Beauty featuring Justin Currie, and available to download on Spotify!

(JustinCurrieFan's comment on 'She Cuts Her Own Fringe' refers to a track from that album)

  • @grimbleness

Especially She Cuts Her Own Fringe which would have fitted right into any Dels or Justin Currie record. It has all the Justin trade marks, excellent melody and lyrically I guess the title sais it all.

    spotify:track:5iV0rqgLZtT5w1ZzOJVQfY

  • i have "wheels of wonder 12" 1989 by Kevin McDermott you just reminded me grimeness so thanks

  • does anyone know what tuning they use for this song?

  • @Farjamed

This is as close as it gets to the tuning Justin uses in the video.

Just Google: the5thfret/chords/change/be_my_downfall and it will come up as the first hit.

  • @Farjamed

Hi man I play this in standard e a g b d e tuning without a capo (or a capo on the first fret depending on the pitch of your voice)

Played in G. try playing a C shape on the third fret for the D major. Sounds great.

You could also try dropping the top E string to a D and play that open. See what you think and let me know how you get on.

Happy New Year to you - Steve

  • @stevesarah

    sorry E A D G B E a little tired

  • @Farjamed

  • Annoyingly, this and the 'Let's go home' video can't be found on DVD!

  • I do have the Aberdeen show on VHS, though. It was packaged as an extra on the 'Hatful of rain' hits collection. There is Macrovision protection, which stops it being transferred to DVD.

  • Saw them perform in Utrecht (the Netherlands) in the beginning of the nineties. Their songs never bore me. Especially this one! What an amazing band. Thanks for this video!

  • @rob5413

I fully agree, well put rob5413. Have you heard Justin’s new record? It’s available on Spotify. Could have been Dels album, then again Justin wrote the vast majority of their songs.

  • @JustinCurrieFan Thanks! I'll go check it out! :-)

  • love this

  • great song

  • Del Amitri are one of my favorite bands ever. So many amazing songs.

  • Dear claudiomusic,

"Drowned on Dry Land" was a b-side that is no longer available, although I'm sure you could find the original recording somewhere online. I encourage Del Amitri fans to explore their world of b-sides. Good stuff.

  • @regattamelblanc

I have just started to upload some old B-sides and rare recordings I have. They will come with lyrics, in lack of videos. So keep an eye on JustinCurrieFan, there will be some good stuff coming.

  • One of my favourite Del Amitri songs - but play the acoustic guitar and I go weak at the knees anyway! To this day, he's still a handsome dude - well for an old git (LOL - joking)...Gosh, wish I had a Downfall tonight :-)

  • Does anybody knows if Drowned on Dry Land is a Del AMitri song there never made to a record?

  • To my mind Just in and the boys were one of the greatest bands that never made it.. As MadBraniac has said " vocally and lyrically unquestionable "

  • Del Amitri songs and Justin's talent (both vocally and lyrically) are unquestionable. Songs that speak to your heart and soul. Look at his performance right now, how can you not admire the fact that he sings his heart out to he audience. I have nothing but great respect for the man, his work and the bands work.

  • @MadBrainiac Thanks for this spot on comment

  • They just dont do bands like this no more.....

Please God... Let us have some more Del Amitri....

  • @beerzippy It is not Del Amitri, but Justin Currie has a new album out now (The Great War) and that is as close as it will ever get.

  • Do you know if this was ever released on dvd?

  • @kenscotch No, as far as I know this was never released on DVD.

  • i love this song!!

  • D...I Kis You Baby xxLLxx

  • Del AMitri is my favourite band, how can I get this concert?! Please help me...

  • Ahh it is so nice to see this. I used to go to so many of their gigs. This is beautiful.

  • the gig at the albert hall,in which dell boys just did an hour long set with accoustcs, was my finest hour ever at a gig, justin is a legend.

  • superb

  • i understand. its the most consuming feeling ever,

  • absolutely stunning. justin currie is a fantastic lyricist. the two songs fit together seamlessly in this performance. i was lucky enough to see del amitri at preston guild hall quite a few years ago. at the time, i was only really familiar with the radio played, singles. i have to say they were fantastic and prompted me to listen to them in more depth. be my downfall is now one of my all time favourite songs thanks for posting this clip.

  • I used to have the whole concert recorded off uk TV on VHS till my flat mate accidentally recorded over it! Grrr!

  • Justin unreal! The other singer look's like a Mr to cool Douche bag!!! what a kook!

  • I am close to removing this comment on Iain Harvie, just based on this clip. He was after all the second founding member of Del Amitri. I am Swedish but I believe I know enough English to understand how rude this comment is. waterdoggz, consider yourself one foul language comment away from being blocked.

  • @waterdoggz Don't get your panties in a bunch!!! Del Amitri's a great band, but Justin's the genius. Ok so Iain a founding member he still look's like some premadonna jerk off, so block me! like i give a shit, go get a job douche bag in stead off policing comments on the tube....

  • I dont care too much about comments on the tube in general. But when it comes to my tiny far off JustinCurrieFan corner of cyber space, I rule and I cant help wondering which one of us is being out of a job.

  • @JustinCurrieFan I'm all on your side here, JustinCurrieFan and I think you said all that needs to be said in your reply to waterdoggz who seems to get his kicks from insulting people he doesn't know.

  • Fantastic . At last I've found/seen "Drowned on Dry Land". As Celtic Ghirl says,it should have been a single or at least on an album as it's just brilliant. Got to go now - I've got a special evening planned...............

  • This is just beautiful,,,,,,,,nothing more to say

  • Drowned on Dry Land - this should have been a single, it's just so beautiful!

  • Great! Wish that this outstanding concert was issued on DVD in the US, or anywhere! Love the thing that Justin says about the Pasta Bella restaurant before this: "Air conditioning - that's handy here in Aberdeen...OPEN THE F!*%$#g WINDOW!!"

ha ha! Thanks for posting this.

  • I am sorry circusguy, in which video does he say the Pasta Bella thing?

I have been through these videos a few times and have no recollection of

this. It is fun though ;-)

  • I just read where this footage is from. The TV station probably edited that bit out since Justin said some bad words. I have a dodgy tape copy made from a UK tape transfer to VHS. This band was pretty impressive and Justin's songs are still incredible.

  • I have the Video for this concert and he defo does say it , i should really get it converted to DVD......I forget about drowned on dry land .......so good

  • Does your video contain more than the seven songs that were in my posted Swedish broadcast? I am surprised that Swedish TV has edited out a little cursing, you have never ever heard a bleep on SVT. Either -The Foul Language Censorship Office-? at SVT did not believe we knew the meaning of the f-word anyway, or better yet they did not ;-)

  • No im sure its only around the 7 songs too , I havent seen it in so long so cant remember , but he defo says open the Facking window

  • Great stuff! We need another album, Del!

  • I guess that is too much to hope for, but maybe another solo album from Justin would be more realistic. If the songs on his MySpace hint what is to expect we are in for another masterpiece to follow up "What is love for" and Justin has outdone himself yet again.

  • WONDERFUL PERFORMANCE

thanks for posting all these wonderful dels live videos!

  • You're welcome, they are from an old Swedish Television broadcast. 1998 if I remember right.

  • The TV footage also edited out the original ending to 'What I Think She Sees'. I used to have a radio version where it went on longer. On this tour Del Amitri used to extend the song 'What I Think She Sees' to make a kind of tribute to Dylan's 'It Ain't Me Babe' which is a lyrically similar song. Good to see these vids again. Thanks

  • One more thing. I dont know where youre from, meaning if you have access to Spotify or not, but please note the Spotify link just below the clip information (top right corner). Here you can listen to the original song shown in the video. Thus contributing to the wellbeing of the best song writer ever around (Justin Currie)
