The cymbals he uses are Paiste in case anyone cares. The ride in particular seems to be a 2002 power ride. I would suspect they all are Paiste 2002s. In my opinion they are the best Paise cymbal line out there.
I like this guy's playing. Scott was good (RIP), but I prefer Donnie Hamzik's style. A little more "swing" in his playing. Seems like a nice guy, too.
wow. he sure dont look like he is in playing shape even for a bar band. my guess is he eats alot of pizza and beer. WTF ? Not very metal. is this the end ?
Donnie was together with Rhino the ONLY Drummers ever went to the band. The only band drummers that they looked practiced and they now the instrument. Scott can't play nothing...No feels no nothing.
No offense, but that statement now seems a bit rude, seeing as he is now dead. He was a great drummer, with excellent stage tricks, and his endurance and power were just phenomenal. Plus I bet if he was still alive he could kick your ass in a drum contest.
Honestly, just make constructive criticism. "Scott can't play...No feels no nothing." is just downright disrespectful. Every drummer is different, bringing their own styles and techniques.
@plugit21No offence also, but i didn't call him bad words to say that i don't respect him...I just wrote the truth and by the way i would love to have a Drum contest with him...If you think that ''Musicians'' are those people who do better ''stage tricks'' than another then you better think again cause you don't know nothing at all... Every drummer IS different for his stimulation and perception and before i wrote this comment i DEADLY know what i am talking about without making any critisism.
@rythmhawk Clearly stage tricks was meant as part of his style, and not what I think is good musicianship. I've been an amateur drummer for 3.5 years and professionally for 2.5 years. I know how both to make music and stage tricks blend into one. I will restate what I've said: Scott CAN play, obviously, and everyone expresses their "feelings " in different ways. It doesn't look like he grooves because he's too busy trying to do crowd pleasers by thrashing and hard hitting and the sort.
@plugit21 I play also drums since 1992 to this day, i have made since then 7 official album recordings, lots of demos, projects, shows and so on and i was listening to this band since 1989. So my eyes don't cheat me. I am not saying that i know everything about music but i have a GOOD clue about it and i know also that the tricks Scott done has nothing to do with his personal style but with the way manowar said him to do so to show more ''macho''.....
@rythmhawk But also remember, Donnie does the exact same thing too. Look up videos on youtube of Manowar when they were at the Agora, for example. I don't know why, but every Manowar Drummer thrashes a crap load on stage. Rhino doesn't so much anymore, but he used to...alot. Search up "Rhino playing Drums of Doom" on youtube.
And I'm not trying to put you down or hurt your feelings, but I'm just trying to provide my own personal opinions.
@plugit21 Every opinion is respectful but apart from this we are searching for the real thing i believe. I've seen the videos you provided me and its true that all manowar drummers more or less do some showmanship but at least in Donnie you can see from his hands that he knows how to play. For excample: In the specific videos you can see that he is using the moeller technique in some situations and has also colorful breaks in old songs than those in the old recording (which are also great).
@rythmhawk COMMENT CONTINUED: I saw those rhino videos. I've seen also a solo in the studio. I think that if you compare these 3 drummers (not because i am stuck with him) you can see that Donnie is the first who doesn't do much showmanship, maybe because he was out of the band. The point is that ALL this manowar react style makes them like this because is a part of how the band look, which is very fake in my opinion. Manowar can find more ways to promote their music but they do not want to...
@rythmhawk my comment continued: My father does tape restoration for Magic Circle Music by putting cassettes from concerts from the 80s and 90s into high quality CDs and DVDs. As a kindly gesture Joey Demaio invited us down to their headquarters around 2 years ago. I met him in the studio, after he finished playing "Kings of Metal". He actually wasn't hitting nearly as hard or thrashing nearly as much. He almost had that look of a laid back jazz drummer.
@rythmhawk COMMENT CONTINUED: For shure in real life he can play more but the way he approaches the drum set with his hands shows me the opposite. For the end i would say that OF COURSE stage and studio are complitely 2 different things for years now and more like in our days and i write from expierence. Musicianship can be shown better in stage than In studio. One big difference is that in studio we can hear ideas. But in stage we can see what one can play, how much he want to play and how.
@DSGisNOTapuss I hear Shankle has a studio video that has 70 thousand views so he is doing great things on his own. Surely he is the next big thing. Maybe nowhere in the near future but by the time he's 55 he'll be in the top 1000 for sure. P.S. Buckethead's 40 albums are truly amazing. He doesnt make any fake videos but you can listen to the music. That doesnt usually get many views but 4 million aint bad for a picture with some music. 40 cd's people an underground legend. BUCKETHEAD.
great that donnies back.scott was just a drum machine.it started it stopped.he hasnt got a good drum fill in him.just look at donnie playing dark avenger on the absolute power dvd.he blows scott of the stage that night.
Hi Neil, dont know if you ever read these. I am curious with which equipment you filmed this. Very nearrow depth of field and still pretty good focus on faces. Look killer. Cheers from Denmark
Cool have the poor mans version of all of that haha. 500d and 50mm 1.8 lense. Anyway. Good work, thanks for your time, give my best to the guys - love donnie eventhough its hard to find out what he did from battle hymn to now haha. Cheers from denmark

I just met Donnie 2 days ago in Ft. .Lauderdale. He's a very cool nice guy and I feel so bad that I have never heard of ManOwar. They're great and I ordered a CD, getting caught up to speed.
Thats the best one could possibly imagine!!! Donnie back in Manowar. Love it!
Scott is a great drummer, he has been amazing over all these years...its sad he is not there and we sure miss him but it feels good to have Donnie back and to know he sure will beat the shit out of those drums like Scott did!!!!
"Doesn't look fit enough for Manowar"...a boneheaded statement!

Rhino was certainly their fastest drummer, but Hamzik perhaps the most creative. On Battle Hymns he uses double bass, which was rare back in 1982
MawBTS 2 years ago 2
I like Scott But Donnie and Rhino are more accurate and faster that Scott Columbus...
Donnie is very accurate and have a special feelling on the doble Bass Drum attack!!!
Rhino is an Animal on the Drum Set... Is a Machine GUN.... very fast..... looks like a thrash/Death Metal Drummer
Scott is good drummer but those two are awesome, they are better than good thei're in higher level than most of the average drummer

Hmm, I'd say Scott was very accurate, he sounds solid. That's what I like about him.
