A lower number before a higher number means the the higher number is subtracted by the lower number (e.g. IV = 4), whereas a lower number that follows a higher number means that the higher number is added by the lower number (e.g. XII = 12).
Another pretty unknown fact about Roman numerals is that you can multiply a number by 1000 if you add a horizontal stroke above it; for example, M with a stroke above it is one million.
This is one of my favorites in the Dragon Quest series, the other ones being 3 and 4. Also, LOL @ the farting weasels. Dragon Quest has had some weird enemies, but farting weasels have to be one of the weirdest.
Though is this the European version because this was not released in the United States. As I noticed this is in English and I swear I played the DS version and it's gotta be one of the most addictive games I've ever played in my life and I swear that the art work on the DS box for both Dragon Quest V and Chrono Trigger look like from Akia Toriyama the Creator of Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z, and Dragon Ball GT. Swear that both the Hero and Chrono look like Goku though what is the Hero's
I guess it really is true that Dragon Quest is really 50% Pokemon and 50% Final Fantasy. But are there any differences to the original Dragon Quest V (Famicom version) to the (DS version) Just wondering?
@PolishExplorer Okay, first off... it's more like Pokémon is derived from Final Fantasy, and Final Fantasy is derivative of Dragon Quest (remember which games came out first).
Secondly, yes, the character designer from the Dragon Quest series is also responsible for Dragon Ball Z. It's even more apparent when you look at games like Dragon Quest VIII.
The Hero's actual name is whatever you enter it in as in the beginning of the story.
i had this game a whiel back and had the exact same problem, i had to stop playing because i couldn't get that damn boat to dock, never did figure out what to do :(
Well Dragon Quest IV already was released for the DS about two monthws ago, US release at least, and Dragon Quest V and VI are supposed to be released somethime in the future.
I guess I understand why. None of the Dragon Quest games are actually related (apart from taking themes from certains games like IV - VI), so the number on the end just says what order they were made.
I have very mixed feelings toward this game. It was great from beginning to about the middle, but started to suck afterwards. The story and characters were good, but the amount of hours u wasted levelling up was ridiculous. And the ending was so disappointing. Up to the middle, I would've given it a 9.5, but play it to the end and it's a 7.
well yeah, but it still felt really tedious. I was able to beat the SNES version because they upped the gold and exp growth, and the Seeds helped out too (theres only one person for them to go to, so you use them when you get them). but the NES version...I think I gave up around the town with magic keys.
I would have given this game the highest possbile rating. The story is absolutley incredible. Dragon Quest 5 is a perfect example of an all-time great RPG.
That's interesting! All the play throughs on V I never ever had problems leveling, or with gold, until right before the end dungeon. Granted I was using frame-skip emulation - but it still 'played' faster than VI or III, from my recollection.
@MattiasXL Well with emulator's it's quite easy since most of them (like SNES9x & ZSNES have a fastforward key). So when your at a point where you can kill your enemies with physical attacks only, you fast forward your travelling & battles. You go up in levels & cash in no time. But of course this then makes the game too easy.
Ah, Dragon Quest V, the last relaxing DQ until DQVIII. Because, with DQVI and DQVII, you had to do horrible things like run from Metal Slimes to keep from getting overleveled (IIRC, it was less so in DQVI than in DQVII).
And it's said that DQIV and DQV have the best story in the series.
8bit graphics for the PS2 fuck yeah.

No idea, it's intended to be the Roman Numeral 5.

I = 1
V = 5
X = 10
L = 50
C = 100
D = 500
M = 1000

I don't get something. In DQIII, monsters' attacks are animated but this one doesn't? I think I'll just wait for PS2 version to get translated.

When this game first came out in japan, there were lines so long that was so much worse then people waiting in line when ps3 first came out.
If I remembered correctly, dragon quest V sold like 500,000 copies in just one day in japan alone.

"King Metal Sword". I got it from the casino. I played in there for like 4 hours to earn enough for it. Isn't it the best sword in the game?
CaptainKaze 4 years ago
I'm pretty sure the Zenethian sword is stronger, but that's for the main character's son.

Nice, you can never have enough Dragon Quest fans. ;)
This isn't my fave, IV and III are better IMO, but a lot of that's down to the shoddy fan translation I downloaded and the grey menus.
Willing to give it another go when it comes to DS, no doubt.
