  • 5:01 badass roman crest helm

  • Hey I'm looking into getting into SCA heavy Armour fighting, although I'm not too sure how. Would a full suit of battle ready chain mail and a padded gambeson / plate helm would be good for amour? And where do I find a Rattan (spelling?) Sword to purchase and use in this. Any help on this would be appreciated, thanks

  • @TheLoneOnion Well, first you'd need to get in contact with your local group. Most shires and baronies will have some variety of loaner equipment for newcomers to use. Rather than ask you publicly where you are, I'll just point you to sca.org and tell you to click the link that says "Find your local group" in the right sidebar. The local seneschal and chatelaine should take over from there, but if you need more help let me know. Good luck!

  • 'Cos I-raq was some dumb medieavil boo0shee to!

  • Is this like I-raq or someplace?

  • douset look safe? you wanna be safe and use padded sticks, i wanna be unsafe and use rounded edge metal swords and rounded stabbing points. it would hirt allot more, but it would change how people fight in battles for the better in my opinion. there wouldent be anymore rabbit sword play bacause there heavyer, harder to swing fast, waring you out, making you conserve energy. but there would be a heavy plate armor requairment..

there are videos on here, look up "russian medieval battle"

  • @MetalicDeah A steel blade isn't appreciably heavier, actually, and rattan hurts plenty. Also, a heavy plate armor requirement would suck, since the vast majority of people who participate don't have tens of thousands of dollars sitting around to commission a suit of field plate.

  • @RenegadePaladin me neather, but i would save up just to fight with actual weapons. a 2h sword would be more than 6lbs? im thinking of how a guy with a sword and sheild, fighting a guy with a larger/heavyer two handed sword. it would play out diffrenlty? if a guy was beating on your sheild with a metal sword and the sword starts to get stuck in the wood, it would play out diffrently than if he was beating on your sheild with a stick is all im sayin.

  • @MetalicDeah

Once more, not so much. You REALLY need to research your weapons. Two handed swords weighed between 6 and 8 pounds. SCA is pretty accurate to what the weights were back then. Not only that, it still ain't fun to be behind a shield when someone's whaling on it with a 7 pound stick. Eventually the arm goes numb from the vibration.

These guys get as close as possible while still remaining as safe as possible. Live Steel combat is dumb, dangerous, and a bad idea.

  • @RomanovBuck ah i see, 10lbs swords where used for Ceremonial perposes. most swords used in combat where around 5/6lbs. but still, a metal sword with its smaller cross section at the cutting edge vs. a wooden shaft, you could use it diffrently, right?

  • @RenegadePaladin tens of thousands? wow, i was looking and found some for 1,500.. but i guess thay where for show or something.

how about... metal plate armor on the hands, chest. metal helm and chain mail under that? im guessing you would also need shorder plate armor so people dont brake your coller bone?

  • @MetalicDeah Plate is easy. It's the fitting part that's hard. Having field plate custom fitted to you (and it has to be if you're going to wear it effectively) by an armorer costs roughly ten grand, or did last time I was price checking. .

  • @RenegadePaladin your numbers are really far off, all in all to get full plate strapped and custom made to your body it costs around 2 - 3 grand and would fall well within sca standards and decent padding is around 2 or 3 hundred though i suppose if you wanted ALOT of brass, silver, and gold/gold leaf filigree work it could add up to 10 grand but thats certainly not required, still i agree its a tad expensive not everyone has 2 grand lyeing around.

  • they use arrows? :D I thought that was too dangerous

  • @flyingtoothpaste The bows have a very low draw weight and the arrow blunts have to be wide enough that they can't fit through the bars on a helmet (same with the thrusting tips on other weapons), but yes, we use bows. In fencing we use rubber band guns. :)

  • @RenegadePaladin NICE :)

  • @RenegadePaladin This is only at pensic though right? if i remember correctly its the only event in which we use combat archery, although this may have changed in the year or two since i've been active.

  • @Deaththekidxliz It really depends on the kingdom you are in I know caid has combat archery.

  • @RenegadePaladin all weapons has to be dull

  • @pizzaboy902 Ummm... Duh? We like not dying while doing this, you know. :p

  • @RenegadePaladin true i understand this nobody likes die

  • haha, i think its funny how grown men and women hitting each other with sticks is considered "authentic".

  • @NorseLax07 We have fun doing it. I note you're not saying that to the face of someone who knows how to use one of those sticks, though. :p

  • @RenegadePaladin Lucan! we have another non-believer! Abuse him!

  • @Deaththekidxliz Uhh... What?

  • @RenegadePaladin Lucan is a friend of my parents, and he is one of the strongest fighters around.

  • @NorseLax07 Men using sticks was an "authentic" practice for about 8,000 years of civilized warfare and for a hundred thousand years before that. I imagine you'd have to have a pretty heavy sack to walk up to a man and beat him with a stick as opposed to shooting him from across a field, you stupid pretentious asshole.

  • @MrCaptain221 Wow... I couldn't agree more... i know several fighters, and it's a full contact martial arts form, not grown men and women thrashing about with sticks.

  • @NorseLax07 you good sir are a DUMB ass ITS THE SCA you DUMB ASS NUF SAID

  • this is cool in all but i see no real medieval battle stratagize here is just the old stereotyped myth of the "blob clash in the center of the field"

  • @MrMeineNamen My camera was poorly placed to show it. For starters, they're working around two gates in a wall, so no they're not clashing in the center of the field. :p Go look at part 3; I moved my camera while the two sides were switching roles between attacker and defender, and got on the hill behind the castle, above one of the posterns.

  • @MrMeineNamen i agree i see no weapon technique either. if i did see more traditional techniques id probably be out there. but for now im in a correographed live steel group but im going to try and pick a few of my best swords man to get armour and do non-correographed contact with our steel weapons

  • aweee the truck driveing through ruiend it for me

  • Is this for real? Did they really name a battle at our largest, highest profile medieval history event after a battle in a fantasy novel!?

  • @Caniswalensis They did. I thought it was off too, but I'm just some grunt; what can you do?

  • @RenegadePaladin

    Nothing, I guess.

That is really out there, though. I like Fantasy fiction stuff as much as the next guy, but it really sends the wrong message IMO. Probably not a lot of harm done, but it bugs me.

  • @Caniswalensis our? lol... america didnt exist during the medieval times.

  • @saladin12740 "Our" as in The Society for Creative Anachronism. Pennsic War is an S.C.A. event. The S.C.A. is a history organization, not a fantasy club. We have enough trouble with people joining our history club and pretending to be elves, wizards, vampires, donning fur bikinis, or claiming to have pet dragons & unicorns & the like. If someone wants to be an orc and fight at Helm's deep, they should go join a larp group that caters to their needs , and I wish them well.

  • @Caniswalensis you dont see euros remaking battles of the american civil war. You know why? Cuz no one gives a shit about american history. Make your own history and stop stealing from others.

  • @saladin12740 Stealing your history!? ROFLMAO! What makes you think history belongs to somebody? You seem to have a wierd urge to argue about nationality. Everyone else is talking about history vs. fantasy. But I think we ignore any part of history at our own peril. American history has had a profound effect on the world in the last couple hundred years. as profound as wellington's victory at Waterloo. When you have more personal history, you will see things more clearly.

  • @Caniswalensis DEATH TO EMRIKE!

    .

    .

. Haha, im just breaking your ballz man. Have fun. Also most american history had a very bad impact on the world.

  • @saladin12740 lol Who is Emrike? You'll have to explain that to me. I don't know why you are down on America so much, but if you really study history, You will realize it is profoundly disturbing in what it says about the human race. No one nation really stands out all that much. They all have terrible, dark episodes, but also bright & shining moments. Look at the imperialism of the late 19th century. America was in on it, but was reltively benighn compared to european powers.

  • @saladin12740 Actually you do. :p

  • @saladin12740 Actually the do. The American civil war is very popular in Europe.

  • @Caniswalensis How could you possibly have a problem with fur bikini's lol (on the right person of course)

  • @saladin12740 No one mentioned America.

  • @Caniswalensis you wrote ''Did they really name a battle at OUR largest" which made me lol.

  • @saladin12740 I will explain again. When I said "our" I was refering to The Society for Creative Anachronism. Pennsic War is an S.C.A. event. Pennsic war is the S.C.A.'s largest event. I do not know how to make it any clearer than that for you. The S.C.A. is an international organization, BTW.

  • @RenegadePaladin soon soon must practice more first

  • I so can't wait until my first Pennsic. GO ATLANTIA!

  • @vidkid9793 DRIVE FAST TURN LEFT!

    ;)

  • This is a well made video just don't move so much or irratically.

  • Ah, hell! I'm a sixteen girl and I'm in the SCA. I love it! I've been going for many years now, and I love my camp, I love the people there, and it is very fun. Merchandise, food, people who like the same things you do-- It's all just really fun. It's not some dress-up fairy tale some people think it is--It's really a whole new life. I'm fighting next year, but I mgiht not do that. xD

  • Its a cool idea to do but it doesnt look very exhilarating, just a bunch of people cramped in a line walking up to the front

  • You've obviously never been in the middle of one. It's very exciting on the front line, even if it isn't much to look at.

  • wow...

  • LMAO THATS allot of bored old men

  • Bored old men who could club your punk ass like a baby harp seal if you said that to their faces. :p

  • LOL yea and its not always old men. Im 20 and I love SCA. Some people just dont recognize a good sport.

  • yup i want see this in TV ^^

  • @bigboys1199 Don't worry Renegade Paladin you won't ever see his punk ass wanna be gangsta out on that field in armor.

  • @bigboys1199 You should come try it before spouting your uniformed opinion. :) You might actually like it.

  • my wife found herself several times in this video...she was right on the front lines!

  • @dearmrjuca i saw your wife on the front lines of my weiner

  • I think I saw myself at least twice *grin* Nice resolution... what type of camera did you use?

  • I use a Canon FS100 digital camcorder. It's not exactly high definition, but it meets my needs.
