Unfortunately, in this day and age, you just don't know who's going to be armed...either with a firearm, or knife...just remember, by most states' self defense laws, an unarmed assailant CAN be shot, and it's still considered self defense! But I really do agree with you...it's better to take a beating than go to prison!

Guns exist. I know someone who's made them from scratch, and there's millions out there allready.

I can assume what you really mean is that you wish to make them illegal except for the military, police, and security professionals. This is far from "nobody having a gun". It would leave us with millions of guns, and would disarm the law abiders.
