@getplaning I was about to say that. I use different crank lengths on different bikes, so measuring at from the centre of the bottom bracket is pointless (guess a could work it out from that but why would I make it harder than it needs to be?)
Gale, thanks for your vid. By the way, I like your pronunciation. It is clear and correct.
You guys, who complain so much about the letter H, one h more, one h less, not a big deal... mainly if you consider the profusion of pronunciations in English, not only in England but all over the world.
I just adjust mine empirically: high enough for the leg to get full extension when the pedal is in the down position. If your seat is too low and you adjust it you will feel the difference.
As the saddle always sags a little, it has happened that I had to stop and adjust it during a ride. Then, when I retake the ride, it seems pedalling has got easier, because the new position is more ergonomic.
One of these days I’ll check the measurements , though.
i find full suspension bike require a different mounting method and the way you climb on the bike. typically because of high sag on long travel bike you have to run the seat slightly higher to compensate for the increased sag. this will mean that you find it hard to touch the gorund with you're toes when stopped but this is not the proer technique when stopped on any bike. you are meant to stand over the frame on the ground which is why you have toptube clearance
Bikes do not have seats...they have saddles. A saddle is meant to be straddled. A seat bears all body weight which is why bikes don't have them.
Also, the riders cockpit length is too long. She's too stretched which is why she is short grabbing the brake hoods. Women need shorter top tubes because they have shorter torsos and aren't as tall as men.
@Seastone88 The easiest way to find the right saddle height is when your seated on your bike, you put your heel on your pedal and if your pedal is vertical, your leg should be at full extension. Also your feet should make the full circle flatly. Bear in mind this is baseline advice to get a plus minus right height. You should do a complete bike fit to determine the exact height.
flat footed with your back against the wall measure the distance from your crouch to the floor, use a phone book as a wedge. the measurement should be in CM and multiply the number you X .886 Your total is your measurement from the center of B Bracket to the top of the saddle above the seat post(like a straight line) Neutral saddle position is 5CM from the nose of the saddle to middle of the bottom bracket (use a plumb line)
i think this is too prescriptive, have a look at some TDF riders and you'll see that their seat is set even lower than the low setting on this video. There's more to setting seat height than just the movement in hips and the angle of the knee.
It would be the correct height if your desire is speed, power, & comfort over a distance. obviously stunt bike riders and some mountain bikers have differing balance considerations
ask your bike shop man/woman to do it for you. I had a problem with that, but when he did it, it was solved. If you bought from the internet you might have to pay though...but it's worth it: these pedals totally eliminated my knee injuries :). speedplay forever.

I would only add that you need to measure seat height from the top of the pedal at the bottom of the stroke, not the center of the bottom bracket.

This video is both right and wrong.
The saddle height instruction is correct but....

Like the tip on hips wobble. I wasn't aware of that. Is the correct height therefore the highest you can set the saddle before the wobble occurs?
