Copying still isn't stealing, has never been stealing, and will never be stealing. The law actually makes the distinction on this.
Your right to control your work and sell your work has never been stolen, it's legally protected. No-one can steal that. This is why you lost the argument.

Infringed, yes. Stolen? No. Not at all. Not one bit. You've not been able to cite any instance of theft.
So, when we get down to it, there is literally no case of "theft" after all. This is why those who say "copying is stealing" have an argument that makes about as much sense as a porridge-filled piano.
If someone publishes your work without your permission, that is indeed copyright infringement. But don't pretend it's theft. The public don't see it that way, neither does the law.

@prodge Do you not understand the concept of copyright? Among other things, it entails the EXCLUSIVE right to make copies of a work. Copyright owners don't only own their copy of the master tape, or disc, they own the intellectual property rights to the content "fixed" on it. When you copy it without their permission, you are stealing something of value -- the owner's right to control his work and to SELL copies of it. That right belongs to him.

@FSCAPAP No. Try again. Stealing is taking someones physical property away from them. When you steal something, it gets taken away from someone. When you copy something digitally, nothing goes away. Copying something is called 'Copyright infringement' and not 'stealing' for that precise reason. By copying something, no one is being deprived of the original copy. Also, trying to convert 1 download to 1 sale is a logical error, have you learned nothing of the MAFIAAs failed attempts?
