@Fluffypopcicle I see that video (tiago 38bps) he can only shred over the same scale, and the same arpeggios all the time, always the same, theres no backing track, no chords changes no interesting notes or exotic scales and changes, no melody, no harmony. Nothing musical only shred. I love shred, Malmsteen, MAB, Cooley petrucci... and metal and death metal (necrophagist my favorite) but they can play very fast because their licks are very simple with no changes in scales or harmony
i wasn't really comparing the use of time signatures, backing tracks etc. i was comparing the speed and technicality. i never said that the video was over a backing track and if you melody look up destiny and violet rose by tiago della vega. shawn lane is probably the only person that beats tiago in terms of technicality and trust me, i can play over backing tracks like guthrie and just hitting the sheer speed that tiago does is much harder.
@Fluffypopcicle please see some videos of Lane, Gambale,Henderson, Holdsworth and Guthrie Govan, not only to compare them with Tiago. Hear and enjoy the complicated melody, harmony, and time signatures, hear the bass and drums and then tell me. That music is VERY different and harder to play than this, because you have to think and hear the other instruments, not only play the same scale for 5 minutes.

it's a tiago della vega signature. it's made some of the most expensive material you could possibly find, and if you have the money good luck finding one. i don't think it's available in stores.
I kinda agree with that. Im really critical of people like michael angelo cause of his constant shredding. paul gilbert and pettruci are people i would think qualify for great shredders but they dont really rely on tht.
this guy actually has some good tunes. he doesnt simply shred the whole time but actually has somewhat of amelody. thats something that micheal angelo or herman lee couldnt do.
i think you need to take a closer look at MAB. michael has some highly soulful songs. listen to 2x again, rainforest, time machine, no boundries, and a couple others. i don't listen to herman though, so i can't judge him. i only like 4 dragonforce songs :/

physiological and theoretical skill at very high levels, allow you to compose on the fly, with nothing but feeling. pre analysis/planning is already automatic.

So I'm not a musician, I don't study music at all, nor do I intend to. Heck, I'm not even a full adult yet. But I definitely know when I hear some great music being played.

That music is VERY different and harder to play than this, because you have to think and hear the other instruments, not only play the same scale for 5 minutes.

What's with all this "feeling" discussion on every shredding video? This song has a decent composition and is played with an extreme accuracy. If you want to experience a lot of feelings, hit yourself in the foot with a hammer or something.

I kinda agree with that. Im really critical of people like michael angelo cause of his constant shredding. paul gilbert and pettruci are people i would think qualify for great shredders but they dont really rely on tht.

i think you need to take a closer look at MAB. michael has some highly soulful songs. listen to 2x again, rainforest, time machine, no boundries, and a couple others. i don't listen to herman though, so i can't judge him. i only like 4 dragonforce songs :/

physiological and theoretical skill at very high levels, allow you to compose on the fly, with nothing but feeling. pre analysis/planning is already automatic.
those with a poorly trained ear and little imagination/variation would have such a common and naive opinion. opinions of the layman are not equal to that of a professional. the better a musician creatively AND technically, the better he/she can appreciate musical context.

Think about this, there are paintings being sold that are a picture of a dot and a line for hundreds to thousands of dollars. To me, thats obsurd. and maybe to many others. But there are also many people who think its brilliant, who are willing to pay that much for it. If everyone is "trained" one way, there will be no diversity. ;)

Además aunque sea uno de los guitarristas más dedicados no tiene un grupo como se merece. Hay muchos guitarristas que solo entran en bandas por ser conocido de ... So I'm not a musician, I don't study music at all, nor do I intend to. Heck, I'm not even a full adult yet. But I definitely know when I hear some great music being played.
Speed isn't everything, but it's not nothing either. I'm going to agree with elnegro987 and say that playing extremely fast is only terrible if the music isn't clear enough and just sounds like garbage anyways.
Plus, bashing on youtube videos in the first place is kind of pointless. It's time-consuming and counterproductive

I completely disagree. Bashing youtube videos is very entertaining and a great stress reliever. If you have a shitty day, or are simply pissed off, you could resort to youtube and bash people who happened to make a stupid comment. Don't tell me you never checked your email and saw that "shadowKn1ght300 replied to your comment on youtube", and started giggling about how "hey, this fag replied to my flame war." Back to the guitar, there is a point where it's too fast. Sometimes it's just too much

Dude, I'm not defending Jimmy Page AT ALL, but this guy isn't the best. And the only reason some people would bash these videos is because this guy goes and hits a world record for fastest guitar playing, and everyone thinks he's the best guitar out there. Just because you can pick at 320bps doesn't mean you're the best. I only watched thus cuz my teacher told me to check out this guy, and how he plays too fast. He might be a great guitarist, but he is no musician. And ya, there is a difference

I think that Speed is an acquired taste, and just because you play extremely fast doesn't take away from you title as a musician.
I don't think there is such a thing as playing "too fast" It's only too fast when you can't play it cleanly. Your teacher gave you his opinion, that doesn't make it fact. Personally, I like listening to fast guitarists.

idk bout my teacher. I have a shitty attempt at Nothing else matters by Metallica. I did it about a year ago, but I improved alot since then. I do also enjoy fast guitar btw, but honestly there's a point where it's just showing off. Like Van Halen's eruption, I know it's different, but I absolutely hate it. This isn't really that hot to me either. The thing that pisses me off sometimes though is how there are all these metal bands that trembolo and sweet pick and think they're god.

I hear you. Herman Lee is an extreme example. I'm not saying that this guy is sloppy, but he just isn't the best, although you already agreed with that. Eruption isn't hard I just used it as an example of some asshole showing off because he is decent at guitar. Van Halen is garbage in my opinion. If you haven't already heard of this guy, check out Charlie Byrd. He's a jazz guitarist. This guy has skill. I wanna see Vega play like him once he's 80+. Not gonna happen

Guitarist is the person who plays guitar first and after that he might also be a composer who creates music. Jeff is great guitar player and composer but not the best. This guy is the fastest guitar player in the world but not a good composer (same can be said about MAB), and it does not make him bad guitarist.
Please respect skills of such guitarists because it need enormous, inhuman time and effort. Not anyone can reach these levels.
