Yep, I don't have that either... But here's a way to do it :
Like HullUniLecturer said, render your scene as a sequence of JPEG stills, and import them into Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut (editing software).
When Premiere asks you to specify the path of the file you want to import, you'll have to check a little button (at the bottom of the "import" window) saying someting like "import numbered stills" and it will import the whole sequence as if it were one video !
Try using Premier or Final Cut. Both have options to import sequentially numbered stills. This is by far the best rendering approach as crashed rendering attempts still yield stills to the point when rendering stops unexpectedly....
Your series of guides were extremely useful and very much appreciated. Thank you for an excellent job, as well as all those behind the scenes to make this happen....I look forward to seeing how this turns out for you, as well as more informative videos. 1
I don't know what's going on, but when I try to render my animation with my Mpeg 4 codec, Windows Media Player says it's incompatible. I've used that codec to reincode raw, uncompressed video before, and it worked fine on WMP. Anyone got any ideas on why I can't get a Mpeg 4 encoded vid from Maya to work? What codecs did you use and how was the result? When I did a fully uncompressed 1080p vid, it ran fine, but had a choppy frame rate because I didn't allow enough frames for the animation.
i need help, i have maya 8.5 learning edition and i can t render it opens a page with a lot of number and things and in the top says this: This is a restricted mental ray demo version. Disabled features:
- thread and host parallelism,
- loading and saving of shadow, photon, and final gather map files,
- hardware rendering,
- light mapping, and
- resolutions greater than 512 * 512 (even numbers only).
It sounds like you are trying to use the disabled features on the demo version. Try simple rendering tests using Mental Ray or choose a different rendering method.
i have a problem: i did a animation but when i have du the rendering thing (i dont use quiktime, dont have it so i used avi) but when i are to play it it wont work any one ho can help??
thank for this awesome vid!!! but i dont just mean this one i watched the whole series and it really helped me!!
ive only had maya for about 6 hours now and im already starting to make projects.. thanks to you! by the way id like to mention that the way you teach is extremely effective and in amazing detail. keep up the good work!
I allready wanted to learn more about 3d modeling, and animating. And thanks to your tutorials Im learning quickly :) Keep up the good work and I hope to see alot more tutorials from you.
Create a camera and a path. Select the camera, then the path using the shift key. Click on animate> motion path>attach to motion path- but click on the little black box next to the words 'attach to motion path'. Tick the 'inverse front' box then attach. Flip the curve and camera over using the rotate tool.
These videos are really gave me a great starting place to make the difficult transition from another 3D package to Maya! Thank you so much...
It makes sense that people interested in 3D Modeling/Animation would probably benefit much more from a strong visual learning aid like this than from a written or auditory learning aid.
i have quick time but it didnt say quick time movie also when my camrea or object rotats on the curve it stops at frame 24 and goes the other way then keeps repeting that prosses
i have problem when i change the image format ....i can't find the quick time format ...so i choose the avi format but when i open the file to see my work as a video it doesnt work!!!
thanx robert your tutorials are real help to me.i just installed 8.5 and dint know what, when, how to...after the videos u made...ive got a hang of it in just a day...ive made bout 4\5 rendered objects.
I also have a problem. I have no images folder :) I go to C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya 8.5 Personal Learning Edition and there is no "Images" folder. Btw your video's are the most easy to follow helpful tutorials of maya i have ever found :P You should make more ^_^
Thank you very much for these tutorials, I've been following them and they're extremely useful! I'm having a problem with this one however. After creating a new camera, any objects or paths I create snap to the center of that camera's position and (for curves, at least) they cannot be moved away from it. Any ideas how to solve this? I'd like to be able to create objects *where I draw them* on the grid, but I can't currently do that. Thank you!
This series was amazing. Thank you so much for spending the time to do this.
I bought two books and spent hours with headaches just trying to get to grips with it. I'm an experienced Flash designer who can now start teaching myself more about Maya.
I don't have the little white menu that you use to get into the camera perspectives. I must have accidentally hidden it...anyone know how I can get it back?
I have a little problem i rendered it and it came out and i went into my folder i had saved it as .AVI by the way and i had a go playing it but all i got was a blank screen... ?
For some reason the avi format on my computer doesnt play the movie. Maybe that`s because the Maya is PLE, however, I found by using the gif image format then transferring all the gifs to a freeware device that plays them back in order - then the movie works. (UnFREEz is one such device as is Beneton Movie Gif, however, I`m sure there are many others.)
ps. Great lectures. Greatidea, too. YouTube is really a revolutionary invention.
When I go to render settings> image format, there is no quick time movie, or any other movie format, so I cannot set the start and end frames. help please :(
Zbrush is the best modeler it costs only 539 dollars or something like that !!!!!! and it's not like an ordinary modeler neigther u use a brush to drag out bumbs and stuff onh ur model. maya is good for animating/rendering/lighting and it is very powerful and fast too.

Despite a recession, I would PAY for extended courses like this by you.
I took Maya for 2 semesters at NYU in 2003. I am re-visiting Maya now to be a more competitive Video Artist (Video Editor/Motion Graphics Artist).
Your method allows me to jump right back in and retain what I'm learning. I really want more like this. Kudos!

It should be noted that sometimes you have to Save the file before it will render as a movie.
Mine went through the actions of rendering but only produced a .iff file no matter what I did. After I saved it rendered as an AVI :-)
Great Tutorial.
