  • yes, I'm sure you could. They do grow a lot faster outdoors.

  • could i grow 100 8 week old koi in a 130litre tank for 5 weeks ?

  • It only takes 5 days for the eggs to start hatching.

If its a koi, it will have barbels under it's mouth.

  • i have a gold fish and it is 8'' long its wierd because i won it at a fairground 8 yrs ago and over time have gotten bigger tanks and now it is in a 18 gallon tank or 72.2 litre tank and keeps growing im not sure if it is a koi

  • how long did it take for the eggs to hatch?

  • wow, i haven't checked my account in a while!

Koi need to be 4 years old to breed. many babies will be drab colored and therefor worthless, the key is quality Japaneses koi to start with, then you'll have more keepers. True colors aren't permanent until they are around 4-6 inches long.

male Koi are generally more streamline and thinner than females in theory but I've had some turn out otherwise.

The four I've kept are about 8 inches long now, perhaps a new video is in order?

  • hi, i love this video, i was wondering, well im myself have 2 ponds in my backyard, i make trips to japan to purchase koi, i was planning to breed some koi just for fun to see the results and etc. many have said that to breed koi they need to be matured and atleast 2-3 years old, soo my question for you is approximtly how old were your koi when u breeded them? i love your video, good for you :)

  • Make new video on ur pond

  • Hey, Our koi have laid their eggs and they've hatched, we got about 30-40 fry, but alot of them are brown/grey ish, and there is only 2 with distinct colouring. Will the brown/grey koi change colour at a later time? They are about a month old and vary from a few mm to around 1 and a half centimeters. Any help much appreciated.

  • hey can u tell me hoe to know if a koi is a female or a male one............

  • haha, I like the song, I know it sucks for the vid.

But it's claeed "Love" by the Cult

  • nice video . song name ??

  • music doesnt really fit the video haha-

    thanks for the vid

  • i've been thinking about raising them and sellign some i have koi but idk if i have a mated pair or anything they're two young or what maybe you can help me right now i have two koi which are 5 inches long or 6 a butterfly thats at least 6 i might get some more this weekend but honestly how much can you make in selling koi i know it depends on the grade and all but lets just say standard assorted koi

  • @samuelwaynefoleyjr When they are 4 years old they may start spawning if you're lucky and conditions are right.

And you really can't make a lot of money raising koi unless you go all out and become a hatchery or something. Do it for fun and the extra money will just be a bonus

  • i have a coy fish pregnant....what should i do with her? do i need to move her to a fish tank by her self. or what?

  • @dusek9210 Koi fish don't get pregnant. XD

  • @dusek9210 Koi spawn at certain times when the water is just right, leave her with the males and watch foir spawning activity.

  • @dusek9210 marry her dude if you had her pregnant! hehe just kidding!

  • Wow. awesome! I save the beauties for myself but have sold a few adults for 100 bucks, American

  • thumbs up for the cult + kois!

  • what size will koi breed at? i have three koi about 6-7 inches long and 1 about 8 inchs long about a year or more so old.

  • @J22R22

Koi parents from Momotaro koi farm are usually around 90cm for female, males are smaller

  • @J22R22 you need 4 year old Koi

  • how old are they @ 2;53

  • @manion3222 First batch is now two years old and 9 inches long.

The gold colored batch was all sold, not one I liked, But around 6 inches long.

My new batch is awesome, 1 to two inches, and I'll post a vid soon.

  • @ihatestoopidvideos I bet youve already ansered you Q a long time ago :)

  • my baby koi are 1 week old what and how often should i feed them

  • @3codfather 2-4 times a day depending on filter size and as much as they can eat in 2-3 mins. and have a water current or something moving the water, it will help the koi grow.

  • ok thanx il try that.

  • any tips on making my koi breed, it was almost 8 years ago i could almost say there was last a breeding and last year i got them in a new circular pond around 900 - 1000 gallons. they have good water and e3 everything too however i did notice on of them grew a bigger belly fast recently, does that mean she is read to mate?

  • cool nice idea

  • What is the ending story-.. how do you race koi... from a small fish tank - eggs may hatch - where do I go from there -= I'm just a guy has a pond

  • @ScottDmac I would not try to raise very many in a small tank.

  • great video :D Is there a way to start my koi spawning? somtimes they do it but havnt for a few years but id like them too this year id love to try get the eggs to hatch

  • @luketheluke Mine only seem to spawn at a certain time, when the water hits a certain temperature. You may have missed that window

  • @luketheluke with gold fish (carp just like koi) there spawning is triggered by the change from winter to spring so unless you live in a place where there is no real big difference from winter to spring it should just happen on its own

  • Just perfect

  • hey i was wondering how you breed your koi?do you let them do it naturally or do you do it like some people where i think they pleasure the male koi in some water and then put a female in.which i hear yields better fry but idk.

  • @azngitano I tried both ways, the better babies came when I just let them all breed together. So I guess it depends on the parents.

  • 30 inches koi just 50 thousand yen in phillippines

  • @ihatestoopidvideos

they need lots of air, either by aeration or filtration. Get a pump in there that dumps water back in to create circulation. that will perk them up and they willl grow faster, too.

  • nice koi,and big .... P.S i am from Romania :D

  • no. they are bottom feeders. you don't want something that eats dirt, shit, and other crap.

  • do you have a filter on that

  • Can you eat koi?

  • 2:51 they are like mini version of the grown up kois

  • So could you get koi to spawn in the fall indoors, if you have the right water temp?

  • did you raise some in that blue tub at 2:57 ?

  • yes, all from the same batch.

  • what do you do with the ones you dont want? and how long does it take for them to reach 4"-6"?

  • I sell the ones I don't want in a local online want ads and they sell quickly.

they ones I raised year are just reaching that size now, but they are supposed to reach full size in 4 to 6 years. Which is about 22 inches long.

  • so my female koi is pregnant right now what do i do? when i put her in a separate tank, what male do i put with her?

  • i'm wondering where you live. When the water temp is just right, they will spawn, it usually happens around May here.

  • Well i live in the central valley of CA. But do i put the female in a separate tank? and what male do i put with her?

  • go fishin!

You can buy koi on line.

  • can you see the barbs when theyre that size at 3:32, 4:16?

  • Not with the naked eye. I can barely see them now that they've grown to about 4 inches.

  • Can you Breed Koi's in tanks??

  • Yes

  • No way. They grow way too fast.

  • No, not really.

  • Ebay, Live koi.

  • bro I put the eggs in a tank, like you did, they finally hatched, But they were all white and died like 3 days later hundreds of em'. After they spawned again, I just to left the eggs in the pond, and I got around 20 of em'. I love it,but that dam heron I'm gonna get him one day, just like he got me.

  • you can egt these mesh nets that go over the top of the pond it stops herons and commorants works great with mine

  • herons!!!!

Beautiful birds but too bad you can shoot them. :)

My guess is the babies didn't have enough aeration.

  • Your koi fishes are gorgeous!

  • Cool videos, nice pond, and hope you will keep making more videos.=]

  • Matt,

Hey I got fry!! but some are almost still eyelashes w/eyes. Will these catch up with the tobies?

BTW what happened to the forum?

    How are yours this year?

    Dave

  • Hey, good to hear from you!

You might take a few of those big ones out, they may eat the littler ones. And the big ones are generally pretty plain, am I right?

I put all my babies in the big pond last few and I see one or two only occassionally. Good chance i lost some, there should be about 30 of them.

  • i wanna breed koi but i dunno how any tips???

  • I don't think so, depends on exactly what they are. they are some kind of larvae, for sure, probably dragonflies? If the koi can outgrow them a bit, they will be food!

I'd try to find out what they are, search pond larvae on the net.

  • by the time you read this. :)

  • lol yeah you where right lol there about the size of a grain of rice now only problem i have is the plant they spawned on that i put into the vat had lots of shrimp type beasties i have removed the plant but there lots of the beasties left behind will this harm the fry ?

  • hiya my koi have laid eggs on a plant that was in the pond large grass type so i removed the plant and put it in a vat with an airstone the eggs had black spotts after a few days i think its eye i looked today they all seemed to of hatched how long before you can see them swimming ??

  • the litlle have never gotten ill, luckyt i guess. With the big ones, it all depends what they have. Ich or fungus Id guess would be easily curable with salt. Parasites are much harder, they need proxi or something much more expensive.

  • Wow! Great video! How do you keep disease (such as ich, internal parasites, fungus, etc.) away from your koi? Do you ever even get disease? If so, how do you treat it usually? My livebearers have internal parasites, and I'm going to try medicated fish food on them.

Also, I want to get a 55 gallon tank and breed fancy goldfish inside. Any tips about breeding?

    Thanks!

  • what do you do with the ones you don't want? you can't keep them around due becaue they take up too much space and load on your filters... so, do you throw them in a random pond? give them away etc... just curious :D

  • last year I sold them on a local internet classifieds. 50 for 10 bucks or something like that. They sold like hotcakes! i threw the last, best thirty in my big pond. Hope to see them again someday...

  • Female koi are generally fatter and grow larger, males are more streamline. The males chase the females in breeding season, that's the best giveaway. When I put one female with two males, the babies weren't as fun and interesting as just letting them all join in.

And I've never heard tht they are allergic to metal. but if it's true, I never had a problem. Maybe copper.

  • Love the video, I can't wait to get some more moi

  • How long does it take for the eggs to hatch?

  • 3-5 days. then a few more before they are free swimming.

  • I have three Kohaku that I'm very excited about. Theyre in the video.

I can't wait to start a new batch of fry!

  • all winter i was sad because i couldn't do any project for my koi pond........but now it's warm and i can start them...i can't wait to get a new kohaku!!!!!!!

  • No.

    Just buy a few goldfish

  • Or you could raise some Koi...

And let them lay the eggs.

  • wow you're lucky i wish there was a place that sold a bunch of koi eggs for me to raise!

  • What month do they start to spawn?

  • Around May, depends on the water temperature.

  • I assume they have hatched by now? Or did they eat the eggs?

they only take 5 days to hatch

  • my koi are starting to mate in my fish tank. how do i make sure the egg hatch?

  • they only get 6 inces by the second year. But in six years, they can be 18 to 14 inches long!

  • How long to get the frys to grow?

  • the most colorful batch is the very best of ALL my fihs, about 12 koi. The ones tha are mostly golden are from the three fish.

  • did you start with only 2 or 3 breeders to get an assortment of colors?

  • thanks! My thinking is to keep the very best two or three and perpetuate the species without ever having to buy another koi.

  • Great Info! Thanks for sharing!

  • Beautiful koi!
