Is it partly that its a clock, not a flashing count? Do we visually take the midpoint of the time indicated as say count 3, and use that to presume that's where it's indicating the start of the count is - I know I take "oNe" said verbally, to straddle the exact start of the 1st beat - the rest of the time for that 1 beat is silent in a way. Whereas with a timer, you're seeing 1 for what 100 ms or so? so if you assume that the count of 1 is in the middle of the visual for 1, that's ~50ms out!
@surfsidet0m Hi, the instant the counter changes it's a new beat (and not in the middle). You can also watch for the vertical bars - they mark the start each beat, the red one marks the "1" beat. Hope this helps!
hmmmmm. this seems out of sync to me. the one is on time....but try this....count the five out loud and look at the counter....it seems to hit on the 4.....
@Dakinbear At what point does it happen? There are a few rhythm drifts in the song itself (see that even in the intro the timing is not even), but I tried to keep the beatgrid as accurate as possible...
@SalsaBeatMachine the way i hear it, throughout the song, the 1 is perfectly on time, but when i listen to the music and count it out, basically from the beginning, when i count 5, the screen shows 4. i'm not sure how this could be since its back on time for the 1, but just go to the middle of the song and say 5 when you hear it. and look at the number. it looks to me like the number 4 is showing on every 5th beat
@Dakinbear I have just realized that this might have to do with the frame rate - the number on the screen is updated only once in a frame, that should be around 30 times per second. It means that there might be a delay of up to 1/30 seconds between the time the beat happens and the number is actually updated on the screen, and can be even more in case of slow/loaded computer.
@Dakinbear It may simply be that you are not pausing your own count sufficiently to allow the full 4 and 8. I find with some students, they've been so conditioned to count 1,2,3,5,6,7 that they don't do the pause/weight-shift and end up off beat or otherwise out of time with the music.
@Dakinbear I see what you mean D! If you just count the 1,2,3, 5,6,7 it seems like the four pops up there and it visually looks like it hits the five. But to me the rhythm seems to be in sync.
awesome, thank you for the post!!!

I will try to account for it in the next video...
