There is nothing stating that a gun has to be parkerized, chrome, brushed, etc. It can be whatever color you want. I've seen bright red/blue AK-47s, 410 shotguns and more. All perfectly legal. It is illegal, however, for a toy to not have a colored tip to designate it as such.

You can also get one for a shotgun but the muzzle is pointed across the room(towards foot of the bed) which I'd be uncomfortable with where my pistol holster points the muzzle down at the ground.
