  • but...but...BUT!......

  • treated!

  • my teacher was 10 when she taught her self at home she made her own pointe shoes out of duck tape and shes never gone to a single class of ballet in her life, except from when she was in the westend about 4 years ago she lived in london now she teaches her own ballet class and she does it correctly but i had to quite because i moved to barry ok so you can easily teach your self en pointe ballet shoes at home by yourself or with a friend so.....

  • @moo9612 She's more of the exception than the rule

  • Are we allowed to do rises at home on pointe?

  • So what do you do when you're considered too old to learn pointe work (i.e over 40 years old) but never had the chance when younger? I go to adult ballet classes but we are not allowed to go on pointe or even wear pointe shoes. Sometimes you have no option but to teach yourself :(

  • My problem is that I can't afford to do ballet, and where I live there aren't many places to do ballet even if I could afford it. Are there any books out there that can teach me pointe at home. I understand it's dangerous, but I really want to learn how. Please help!

  • @BWdanceforeveryay

i have your same problem, Id also like to know if there are any books or videos like movie types to show how to do it properly because i cant spend $80-$100 a week taking pointe or ballet classes.

  • U can always hold on tj the barre doing releves like that. Only a bad teacher would tell u not to when it doing something like this to improve strength and make sure ur safe.

  • When you are doing the single leg rises can you hold onto the barre?

  • Guys, she literally wrote the book on this one. I think she knows what she's on about.

  • I started ballet when i was 3 yrs old. and i stoped when i was 10. I did cheerleading so i would stay in shape. but now i want to go back to ballet. im now 16 yrs old. will it take me long to go on pointe?

  • @livedrawdance33 depends on the strtength of your feet. its not just about strength, but also precision etc. It wont take too long because you have the balance, but it'll take a bit of time...

  • 21 people who disliked this probably are teaching themselves and are lining themselves up for broken ankles. Hurrah for all the sorry rebels who think that harming themselves is fun!!!

  • I've been taking contemporary and lyrical lessons for almost a year but I have a pair of pointe shoes at home.I know it's really dangerous for me to wear them around but I just cant help myself :( Im not doing anything really extreme or hard, but I cant help but do some pointe work by myself o.e

    Taking lessons soon though :)

  • mucsle memory yeah!!!!

  • how can i add my video of my arches for lisa???

  • my teacher taught me everything i need to do, i have to practice them in my house for the next year b4 i get in classes, is that okay?

  • I had an instructor that had us going onto pointe with just one ballet class a week. We had to "audition" to make sure we were ready, but it was obvious after a few classes that she was not a qualified teacher.

  • hello,i am just commenting because i have got some pointe shoes but do not do ballet, i didn't know it was bad for your feet if i wasn't qualified to do pointe work. Anyway i was just asking that i have pretty strong feet and ankles and i am 11, plus i can stand up propaply on them and dance pretty well on them. I was just asking if i would be able to use pointe shoes bacause of those reasons or would it still damage my feet?

  • @Amydancer4 it would still damage your feet, especially since your only eleven, the best time to start is when your twelve or thirteen because thats when your growth platesin your ankles are strong enough. your shoes might not even be properly fittet, and you might not roll though demi-pointe (the balls of your feet) when going on releve.

  • well sorry i use youtube to help me on my ballet cause i cant afford REAL classes and so i i dont technically teach myself it but i exercise w. demi soft ones

  • @sonitax978 technically thats not great. Try get the help of a fellow ballet dancer... :)

  • @chiwawatang my friends are alway busy so i have no damm choice ..

  • Hey I'm a total ballet illiterate and sorry if I come off sounding stupid! So i was watching Titanic and saw Rose go on pointe in her stockings and I tried it and I could do it! well, I've never studied ballet but is it bad to do it without any training? I've done gymnastics before though. and i did it on carpet in my bedroom, bare feet...

  • @dulee101 Its nt a gd idea.

    1) Doin it without shoes is a g8 strain. Gt pointe shoes, @ least. U will feel a great difference. trust me.

    2) dn't go en pointe with/t ballet classes. Gym is gd, but I think with ballet there's a lot more discipline in the foot. We work hard on turn outs, jumps, stretches, more than you can imagine. my headmistress does not allow us en pointe until we were around 14, as we needed to develop the muscles and strength. We waited an extra 2 years b4 moving up. Don't.

  • Lastly, the steps that Lisa Howell is speaking of is very true. These are pointe strengthening exercises - if you can do them while you're on pointe, that means you have some badass feet. If you can't do them in demi-pointe, YOU ARE NOT READY FOR POINTE.

  • Additionally, I really do feel for those of you that cannot afford the three-classes a week minimum. I know exactly how you guys feel. For a long time, I was unable to do pointework because my mom was unable to pay for 3 classes a week. I would honestly suggest when you guys are able to get jobs and pay for things on your own, then you at least try it. However, the standards for pointework are very draconian and if you don't have that at least down, then you can't do it.

  • I'm sad how much misinformation exists in regards to pointework.

IF YOU HAVE PRETTY ARCHES, THIS DOESN'T MATTER WORTH A DAMN. What matters is technique, ankle strength, core strength, attitude and various other factors. Just because someone has fallen arches or flat feet does not mean that they cannot dance pointe AT ALL - it means that they will need additional work. There are quite a few of us dancers that don't have beautiful arches, but we have STRONG feet.

  • My ankles and legs are really strong!

and i have natural high arches.

I've done excercises every single day.

would it be dangerous if i started Pointe?

  • Comment removed

  • I have been on pointe for about a year and am very strong in my legs and ankles, plus I have a high arch. I don't have the greatest technique, though, and am in a really high level class. This summer I had 8 hours of dance a day, 3 on pointe, 4 days a week, for 4 weeks. (I killed a pair of Grishko Pro 2007's in 3 weeks/36 hours of pointe.) One day in August, we were practicing fouettées on pointe in class, and I fell off of pointe and ripped a ligament in my foot. I know first hand this is true!

  • I'm on pointe at my studio and I only take 2 classes a week.... and right now only 1 2 hour class but will be taking a 1 hour private lesson each week, because I'm in a play at my school. But you don't need to take 3 classes a week if your teacher dosen't require it...

  • One problem I do have about how every time you put your pointe shoes on is that it has to be perfect. I wear my pointe shoes all summer just around the house to get them broken in for class in the fall. Of course I don't goof off, but the walking around and just wearing them gets them good and molded to your feet. I don't know how you would feel about this, but I've been doing pointe work for almost 6 years and have not found a better way to break them in.

  • @InsaneinShorts123 I think it's okay. I do the same thing too. But maybe just not as often. :)

  • @InsaneinShorts123: Take her comment in context to what she is saying. When you put on your pointe shoes to practice in any form (whether in class or at home) then you should practice with perfect technique and form. Even if you're just "screwing around" or showing your friends what you learned from class, you should do with perfect form. Muscle memory helps you to perform without having to think (short version). Just breaking your shoes in and walking around I'm sure doesn't apply.

  • Honestly, I don't care about the risks. I don't have the money for a studio, or means to get there. If I want to learn I have to do it on my own. If I get hurt its my own fault. But I'm not really losing anything because there was no way for me to make a career out of it anyway. I'm 18, and I love dance. I was on my high school dance team, and my feet are strong enough. To me, it's worth the risks, because the cost of pointe shoes is significantly less than the cost of a studio.

  • @KamikazeEmo1331 I understand her concern, but similar here. Most of my skills are self-taught, half the reason being classes in everything are so damn expensive. The rich girls with coaches OUTSIDE of school got attention in gym/dance and trained to competition level. I got ignored. My mother said she could see me/wanted me to be a dancer/gymnast when I was small... So now I'm practicing pointe and forcing myself into splits daily. My feet were screwed (hereditary fault) anyway... *sigh*

  • I've been tryng to stretch my foot to get an arch and point my toes but I didn't even know about all of this

  • I've never taken a ballet class also i'm moving to germany, I think it's kaiserslughten ( that's probably not how u spell it) does anybody know any good places forthe performing arts pagents and modeling singing acting instruments dancing all of that. When I look at little girls do regular ballet classes and the already point their toes. Is that a difference between pointing your toes in ballet and pointe work

  • I started ballet when I was three, and went onto pointe when I was 10... I broke my ankle. But now I'm 15, should it be safe for me to go onto pointe again?

  • Learning new steps on pointe on your own is very dangerous. Every new step you learn should be watched and taught by a trained instructor. Only when your technique in that step has been perfected (and that has been confirmed by outside opinion, not your own) should you even bother trying it alone. Otherwise, you will do one of two things... 1) hurt yourself or 2) develop bad technique in the step and strengthen/weaken the wrong muscles or strain muscles so that you mess it up in class.

  • my friends wants me to teach her pointe work.... i told her that it is dangerous but she doesnt care... she is coming to my studio next year and doesnt want to have to go through "the trouble" of doing a class without me. please tell me what to do!

  • @danceislivable Tell her that you won't help her make stupid decisions, and then don't help her. You don't have to participate, no matter how determined she is to try it.

  • Australia? Do you have a studio in Aus? If so where?

  • Lisa what kind of tape are you using?

  • ok that's good 2 know

  • i posted a vid of my rises in january and still nobody has commented :( comment please?! x

  • get your child's feet x-rayed to check for calcification, some girls are fine at 12 and some might have super strong muscles but their bones aren't ready yet. i was extra strong, and went up at 10, now that i'm almost 30 i'm paying for it. x-rays are very important and i wouln't trust a studio that puts babies on pointe.....i have seen 4 and 5 year olds....makes me sick

  • @poketvenus I have a friend who was started on point at age 7 and did it for about a year. Now at 16 she is definitely paying for it. I agree with you it should never be done until the bones in a girls feet are ready.

  • Comment removed

  • no dont teach pointe to yourself , trust me you'll reach your ankles and knees

  • thank you so much for this video, it really needed to be done! By the way, i have used your books on improving pointe work and your feet for a long time and I just wanted thank you! These were brilliant and instrumental in much of my improvement over the years!

  • nice vid......!

  • I was wondering I have been training in ballet at a regular high school and know only the basics plus regular ballet exercises....I know I can never dance on pointe but a cosplay I would like to do requires pointe shoes... should it be fine to just learn how to rise and stay for photos and nothing more?

  • The back of my ankle hurts is that normal??

  • hi dont do pointe untill your strong i have pointes but i like to hang them on the walls.pleas watch my vids

  • For those saying "OOH WOW You taught yourself pointe at home without ever having taken formal classes?!?!!".That's the EXCEPTION. The video author is warning against what could happen. Sure, there may be someone who happens to luckily get out of all the problems and accidents that could happen. It's just like someone saying "I taught myself how to do the uneven bars like medaling olympians do using ballet barres in my backyard so hah, who needs an instructor!!".... Possible? Maybe. Smart... no.

  • Is that possible. ur not suppose to go right on pointe without proper training for a few years. im age 10 and im on pointe watch my vids. But i guess so before i was on pointe i tried teaching it to myself. But wen i went on pointe i was okay for a 10 year old on pointe. :/ good lucky stormy

  • the point she is trying to make is that pointe work can be dangerous if you dont have good technique and are not supervised. you can injure yourself. its not that its not possible, its just very dangerous

  • she doesn't necessarily say it's impossible but she does provide awareness to the dangers of teaching pointe to yourself at home.

  • ya right, that`s IMPOSSIBLE idiot. I`ve done ballet all my life and I`m STILL not doing pointe.

  • This kind of depends how old you are and who's telling you that you're not ready for pointe. I'm 16, I've been dancing since I was two, no one told me I couldn't; I'm doing just fine. Not as good as I could do, because truthfully, dance isn't what I want to do. But my sister is passionate about it, and is perfectly fine. Sometimes you just have to get out there and go, but know that there ARE limits and you can't do everything the first time you try.

  • My studio only does 2, 2 hour pointe classes a week instead of 3, 1-1 1/2 hour classes.

  • omg i am getting point shoes soon and i think your right. thx. also does that meen that i have to only practice in ballet class?

  • why dont you post a vid of when your feet are strong enough for pointe

  • i think you can practice what u learn in class at home that's just practicing! but u definitely need the permission of an instructor to go on pointe

  • Millybeaballetdancer, in case you haven't looked on this Lisa Howell's page, she's a Dance Physiotherapist. Meaning if you get hurt, she's the one who's going to be doing your physical therapy so you'll be able to dance again. I'd say this makes her more than qualified to tell dancers to be careful so they don't end up being patients of hers. And making a video of yourself doing exercises (not random silliness) is great for showing you what you're doing right, and what you're not.

  • I'm actually surprised she's advising, because when things go wrong, she gets paid haha.

  • is this woman actually a dance teacher? cos a video demenstrating 20 rises isnt gonna determine wether or not u should go on pointe, its up to ure trainer!

  • those girls who try to do pointe without proper shoes! my goodness! ive tried to tell them that they could fracture an ankle but the only thing they care about is breaking toes! seriously.

  • i do dance on point on my own.....i'm gonna stop... I don't wanna be unable to dance......

  • dont stop if your doing it safely, thats all that matters, otherwise you will never properly learn your own personal technique, because all you will be learning is what you learn in class, dont worry yourself!

  • by the way whatever you do don't try to dance in skinny jeans!!! I've tried it and i fell over and started laughing but i fell onto a couch so i'm fine

  • thanks

  • This is excellent advice! I'm a ballet enthusiast as well as a professional musician. The muscle patterning you refer to is also very important for instrumentalists.. Improper technique can lead to injury in all of the performing arts. Thanks for posting!!

  • EVERY SINGLE PERSON WHO HAS POSTED A VIDEO LIKE "my first pointe shoes" OR "me on pointe for the first time" SHOULD WATCH THIS!!!!!

    those girls make me sick.

  • me to i think that they r showoffs and its tottal BS!

  • "bwaygirl234"- those people aren't necessarily teaching it to themselves ya know, they're just excited about getting their first pointe shoes!

  • thank you. this needed to be said.

  • what if my mom is really mean and she wont take me to pointe classes? lol

  • haha OMG dude I couldnt do my classes because they started way to early to get picked up. So Im about to start pointe but with prvate lessons at my home! hahaha. ;)

  • This is sooooooo true. You really need to listen to this. K?

    -Justin.

  • OK I WILL GOD

  • for skittlescute... i'm in the same boat!

  • Um... What if you dont have enough money for ballet lessons and still want to learn ballet

  • Some schools offer scholarships, but you could really hurt yourself if you teach yourself pointe work, and the medical costs could be just as much(or more) then classes!

  • Full time ballet schools only.

  • What every one forgets to mention is what if you dont care about the dangers if you get to do what you love

  • But if you don't care about the dangers, your time being able to do what you love will be cut severely short.

  • Theres nothing else i can do, theres no ballet schools here

  • Where do you live, Antarctica?

I live in a town of about 30,000 people and we have at least 4 dance schools, not to mention about 12 others in a nearby city.

  • there's always a dance scool.i have to drive haf an hour away but it's possible.

  • The dance studio I went to (I took musical theatre there) was more or less 20-30 minutes away from my house. My mother didn't seem to mind about having to drive me there every week.

  • i cant find one ANYWHERE :(

  • williegofar95, if you hurt yourself, you'll never be able to do what you love ever again.

  • your just trying to scare people, if theyre doing it safely theres no reason why they shouldnt you know

  • my parents were talking to my ballet teacher about when i could get in pointe and she said not for a while (i'm 16) she said that i probably have the strength but not the technique ( i did figure skating and gymnastics for a good 5-6 years) but i have a cheap pair of pointe shoes and im doing double and triple pirouettes on pointe... i know it is very dangerous... but i was just wondering if she was right about having the strenght but the the technique (i started ballet about three months ago)

  • u shouldnt have those shoes!!!

if u have only been doing ballet 4 three months, u r not ready

u r prob strong enough ect. but the teacher will want 2 get to know u more and understand u better

im sure she will tell u in about a year once she knows u and how u dance that u can go and get ur shoes

DONT USE THOSE SHOES U HAVE

  • on youtube i saw girls in point shoe high

heels is that safe or dangerous?

  • you can't learn pointe work from a video!

  • I was lucky enough to start pointe at 10. It was a bit harder for me so I suggest that you wait until you really think your ready (:

  • I did pointe for 3 years and I stopped doing it for 2 years. This year Im thinking about doing pointe just for the fun of it and I already know the guide lines so there really is no harm. When I did do pointe with a dance teacher she actually suggested we practice and continue moving on at home until the next class.

  • i want to do ballet but im 13 so its too late i am so godsmakked its not fair

  • You can start ballet at any age (:

  • Do not let anyone tell you that it is too late, it is never too late to do something that you really want to do!

You do need to remember that you may have to dance in a class with younger girls than your peers to learn the technique and build the strength. If you really want to do ballet be persistant and find a willing teacher!

  • Angel Corrella's sister didn't start ballet until she was 14. Look them up and you will find that she is now an amazing dancer :)

  • its encouraging to know that. ive loved ballet but never really had time, confidence, or money to do it but am starting now!! woopwoop

  • u can start ballet @ any age

i have been dancing since i was 1.5 but there r @ least 3 girls that r ew and 13 that joined this year

    do what u want 2 do, dont stop b/c u think u r 2 old, u will ever b 2 old 2 do nething!!

  • You can start ballet at any age but don't expect to have the flexibility and necessary strength in certain muscles that those who started at the recommended age(s). This goes especially for pointe work. if you understand and accept those limitations, and work on strengthening, you'll do much better and safer. Lisa Howell's vids are excellent, she talksgood sense that many need to hear.

  • I also want to do ballet (because dance is requires in musical theatre) but I don't want to get stuck in a class with 4 yr olds that know more than me while I'm 12 and know nothing about ballet.

  • I meant musical theatre requires dance

  • Hii Lisa...I sent you a message the other day...about leraniing pointe...U just wantted to know if you recived it.

  • I just moved ballet school, and now I'm the oldest in the school, and the only one en pointe, so I'm practising at home myself.

  • Same

  • I am 10 and i have been doing ballet for eight years. I never got on pointe . i dropped out of dance. I have a pair of pointe shoes and i do small practices at home, but nothing that i can't handle. Plaese reply and tell me what you think!!!!

  • Pfft! You dropped out because you didn't get to pointe and you are only 10? I didn't get en pointe till I was 12! Don't give up! =)

  • well i didnt give up i just had to move and i couldnt stay at that dance school!!

  • Well I am 20 and I have never been on pointe because I ruined my ankles attempting when I was 11 and now they are just too injured to do pointe.

STOP. Don't do it. It's not worth it. You have NO idea how much I regret it.

  • What exactly did you do wrong :S

  • Uh, well I put on a pair of my cousin's pointe shoes and danced around for a bit, but my ankles weren't strong enough and I fell over and rolled them.

The result? I broke my ankle severely, tore a ligament and I am now missing a chunk out of my ankle bone. It sucks.

  • That sucks, but there is a bit of a difference between pratting around, and trying to actually learn properly if you can't afford lessons. Tbh, a lot of schools aren't qualified properly to teach pointe, but they do anyway, and the pupils don't know any better to know if they are or not?

  • I do agree, i think its important not to do it at home, like if you dont even do ballet, but i think people that are fully capable and know what they are doing, its fine! :-)

  • no offence but that was just silly. theyre not toys and i agree with the comments you shouldnt mess around but i dont agree with lisa howell in the way that she says never to do it at home, people are scaring themselves, they are fully capable but are told not to do it at home! be carefull next time :-)

  • While I understand your reasoning...its kinda stupid. I just got en pointe this year and I'm almost FIFTEEN! Your teacher knew what she was doing and you probably weren't strong enough at 10,most people aren't until they turn 12. While I was dissapointed that I couldn't start until I was 14, I agreed that I would prob. hurt myself otherwise and so I just kept at ballet and getting better at that rather than injuring myself by doing it at home

  • I didn't start pointe until i was almost 14, so it's sorta ridiculous that you would just give up at 10. I don't get why you would get pointe shoes after you were told you weren't ready for them.../:

  • You probably didn't get en pointe because you're feet have to be at a certain stage of development to get en pointe.

  • i took dance when i was young and i took a couple years off and now i'm on pointe

  • i taught myself i was fine and im ahead of class

  • Hmmm. well i have a friend that is my age (11) and she ordered point shoes online and she only uses them at her house and she is in my ballet class. i guess she just cant wait until she is in 8th greade and she made me try them on): I want point shoes soooooo bad but i have to wait another three years. but some people say its worth waiting for(: no matter how bad i want them i will wait till i get permission from my instructer(:

  • That's really smart of you! I bet that by the time your teacher allows you on pointe you will be great!

  • i am 11, going on point, and have 1 class a week, my teacher told me to get them and do point work at home 2 get used 2 point shoes

  • thanks for this vid, i was as dumb ass and attempetd fweppe piroette (i cant spell in french) and went over on my right ankle, now what was my strongest leg is now my weakest leg.

the problem for me is that i only dance 2 hours of ballet a week and althogh my pointe has a mixed ablilty of students some having danced on pointe longer than others, this is a problem for me (one of the more mature students as it dosnt give me the oppatunitiy to progress as much as id like.

  • We start doing pointe next week! I'm so nervous...

  • Thank you very much!!!! I am going to show you a response. You told people how bad it is if you are not ready, cause my friends don't listen to me. I have a question. My friends in my tap class rise on the tips of the toes(pointe) and start turning and jumping on pointe. Is this bad? I have been telling them this, but they say my feet don't hurt and they won't get injured. There isn't even support. Thanks so much!!!!

  • thatks you so much for caring but im in a play this febuary and we have to be on pointe for minor seconds will that truly hurt my feet

  • Are you en pointe?

  • @animeaddict13

umm nooo..my lil sis wrote that but she is i suppose..and sorryt his is like from a year ago

  • oooooh, i start pointe after Christmas!!! sososso close!

  • If I ever want to do a movie of me doing pointe exercises when I'm ready I'll get my teacher to watch. (My mom is my teacher so it won't be hard to get her to supervise!)

  • we're doing pointe next year :D

  • im doing pointe next year. im fourteen and most of the girls i know do pointe at around 11 and 12 so its kinda late but i've had longer to strengthen my feet so thats good :)

  • same im fifteen and getting pointes nxt week. loadz of people who r 11/12 r already on pointe. i don't get it

  • those people who are 11/12 and already on point have strong enough ankles and know the proper technique.

  • not all

  • those who don't should go en pointe

  • The song at the beginning sounds soooo familiar, but I can't think of what it is. Does anyone know?

  • so true!

  • This is sooooo true guys. Listen to Lisa she knows what she's talking about.

    I loooooovvvvvvvvveeeeeee ballet! :)

  • Finally! People actually listen to this video. It is VERY important. :D

  • i started pointe work myself but it was only warm up practices. so i agree with her. my friend sprained her ankle while teaching herself pointe work and had to go for surgery.

  • I taught myself how to do pointe work thank you, and when I acctualy went to a class my teacher told me tht I progressed pretty well considering that I taught myself

  • yh same i taught my self pointe as well at home and when i went to a class i had 3 weeks of lessons when i was aloud to go on pointe in the school

  • I started at age 4, and basically trained all year, 5 classes per week. I could do all of the things this video advises, but I was not ready at age 8. My feet would have been permanently damaged.

  • wow, she is so sweet and INFORMATIVE and sincere!! I think she cares more for the dancers than some of the teachers I've met in person!!!

  • i take two dance classes for five days in a row.and i have been doing ballet for quite a while.

so i just have a question.

how do you know when you're ankles are strong enough?

  • how do you know when your ankles are "strong" enough?

  • your teacher tells you

  • lol....

yeah.....but i dont understand how they know...

  • thank you so much, i'm going to be starting intro pointe at my studio this week i am excited and a little nervous, these videos are very helpful and i feel more prepared now feel more relaxed.

    thank you so much!

  • And one more thing. It's not just for fun...

  • But I won't stand on pointe from today. I should thank you for this video. Greetings from Poland( the worst place if you love ballet and want to be a ballet dancer)

  • At first I started crying, becouse I really want do dance on a pointe I started learning ballet without a teacher a year ago and in July I first stand on pointe and I find it really difficult;) especially when I want to not move my body. Of course I knew it is dangerous but I'm not going to Ballet School becouse it's too far from my town and I was thinking if I couldn't dance as professionalist then I could die or make sth to my feet becouse I love ballet more than anything else.

  • Sorry, I didnt mean to offfend you! If you are under the guidance of a teacher and she/he has approved you to practice at home then that is fine. The warning is meant for those without tecahers, or who have never actually taken ballet lessons!

  • youre such a cool teacher! thank you for telling people not to teach themself my friend snapped a tendon in her foot playing around on pointe shoes at her house. thanks again.

    ,Amy

  • Wow, I never realized how hard it is to be a ballerina! I'm a figure skater, and even if what we do is really hard, I take it that ballet is just as hard, or maybe a bit harder! I will definately send this video to my friends who are desperate to do en pointe even if they don't even take ballet! Thank you!

  • And I never realized how hard it was to skate on ice! :P Ballet is much more my thing. The only thing I can skate with are roller blades. Hehe.

  • i've been taking pointe for about 5 years so my cousin asked me to do my routine for her. after i did it i left the room to get water but i heard my cousin yelp in pain when i came back she was on the ground (she had tried to use my pointe shoes and didnt know how and snapped her left ankle in half because she wasnt strong enough and rolled forward!) i hope this shows girls who fool around with stuff "just for fun" that it can quickly ruin any type of chance you might have to become good!

  • i am getting my pointe shoes soon and lookig forward to it. but when i have exams i usally practise at home but what do i do cause as you say theres lots of risks. plus i only have one dance lesson a week what do do! ad i have an exam coming up!

  • Thank you SO much!

I take 5 classes a week, and I can't believe girls who think they can "be ballerinas" by wearing shoes from ebay and forcing themselves onto their toes.

They have no idea the work do to be good at what we do and to have the knowledge to do it safely.

I hope your video can make an impact on them; either take lessons or don't go en pointe! When they practice alone, no one can say when they're making mistakes or being unsafe.

There's no replacement for real instruction.

  • i totally agree with you i dance for over 9 hours of lessons & 3 hours of private instruction a week and i hate when ametures do this and then hurt themselves
