If I have a dvd player and dvds, what use can this thing be? Seems like a gymic I'd be interested in knowing what this thing can do that would classify it as a practical thing worth getting
I have the old AppleTV with Boxee and XBMC. In the UK I can watch live TV on the device. most people have PVR systems that series link, so the comment about watching TV shows only when they say you can is wrong. Also many cable operators do VOD (video on demand) so that kinda fixes that issue. It will soon be the case that ALL cable operators will go VOD and Steve Jobs knows this - and thats one of the reasons his AppleTV is regarded as a hobby and has no way to bring to market what he wants.
You are trying to validate your wasted money by claiming that regular, cable TV "rules your life" because it has a SCHEDULE? And that you'd rather PAY for every, single TV show that you normally get for FREE?
I pray that this is an elaborate joke and that you are not that retarded.
Lol. Well, technically, SOMEONE is supporting those people by buying and uploading the torrent in the first place. So don't worry, your precious multi-million/billion dollar corporations and artisans will be just fine.
Your telling me that the reason Apple tv is so great is because you pick when you watch what you watch? Have you met this magical thing called DVR? I can watch my shows when I want by simply recording them.
cable doesnt tell you to do anything.. if it MADE you sit down, drop everything your doing, and watch a show, like you basically just said. Then no one would have it. It basically says, "hey we're broadcasting this show, at this time, if you want to watch it". your so fucking dumbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbb it makes me ashamed to be american
Apple Soldier... what is your preferred backup solution? I am looking into one for my macbook pro... Will an external with Time Machine be sufficient... or do i go for something like superduper... or even both ?
omfg... really apple faggot soldier......u dnt need t.v cable???? really???? so if apple comes out with a fucking mountain bike. let me guess u dnt need a fucking car as well.... god damn u really need to blow steve jobs get it off ur check list huh.......................iphone going to verizon long time ago u said it would stupid if did but i bet ur next vid is going to be bout how smart apple is going to othere networks...
I do agree that the apple tv is a very nice device for streaming your content to your TV, however I am more of a fan of the old version with actual local storage. although I dont use it anymore (because I dont even use my TV anymore), I still liked being able to use it as a semi-portable device to take movies with me. I would fill it with movies and tv shows for when I go to a friends or family's house.
@TheIvanFilko , not sure what you mean ,its really cheap ,tryi getting the same setup from a TV sat setup dealer install etc, a wireless HDMI..If you can play anything from itunes , inc movies, then i think its good ,i personally dont need it as my projector screen is direct on my setup, but if you have a computer rig in one room and wanted all your media in itunes on the tv setup ,then its a good idea.you dont need 2 use the itunes store for content as you know just drag mp4 etc to itunes lib...
What about tivo? Hulu and other streaming websites? Downloads from torrents? Other than tivo most those things are free. With less proprietary software and no renting or buying t.v or movies.
Why the hell do you buy all these apple products? You have the i7 imac, mac pro, and now an apple tv? Apple tv is stupid. All it is is big giant front row.
@Ameeran5 Yes, there's really nothing Apple TV offers that Virgin media hasn't had for years, which is probably why Apple TV never really took off here in the UK. And I can't see it changing either, since Virgin will soon be in competition with the free YouView service. Nobody is going to pay £99 for Apple TV when you get more from a £30 YouView box
@applesoldier - If you want to avoid using the cumbersome method for entering username, passwords, search terms, etc ... download the Remote app from apple. It makes things much easier. Your iphone, ipad, or ipod touch act as a remote for your apple tv.
I agree it is a great device..and I noticed I can even listen to the radio feature while looking around some of the menus..How cool is that ? I also give it a 5 out of 5. And the price is awesome as well. Great review..

Netflix on Apple TV is a good idea, Apple might not make as much money from people not buying AS MUCH things from iTunes Store, they make that money up from Netflix paying them to be on their device.
My appletv is on its way to my house and it seems nice, but I'm not sure it will replace my mac mini running plex 9. If it doesn't I'll give it to my parents.
I love the new Apple TV... But im having this problem with rented movies from apple.(Not netflix or any other program) When i go to watch the movie i rented part way through the movie or every 20 minutes it will stop and i have to press play again. Its sort of annoying. Maybe its just mine Idk. Other then that i love it
Amen with Cable TV. I think Netflix and iTunes will revolutionize the way we watch movies and TV shows. The only reason I have cable now is because of news and live sports.
"Single and live by yourself..." is this a confession? Well, that is the first bit of truth I've ever heard from this hillbilly. The only thing that makes Apple TV great is that they lowered the price of the damn thing that it can compete against Boxee. And there's the regional issues that persist. You can only get this content in the US and no where else. Why don't they just sell this thing in the US ONLY! That would be truth in advertising.
i think that hulu plus is a better deal. there are more shows available and if youre gonna watch more than 10 shows a month, youre saving money compared to apple tv
Can you pause a movie you've rented? Just in case something came up and you're only thirty mins into the movie or something? Or is it pay .99 and watch it all right then and there?
I will agree. If I weren't married with a 8 month old son and lived on my own id have an Apple TV myself. I only ever watch a few TV shows and your right, it is a pain in the ass when you want to sit down and watch say Ice Road Truckers but nope it's not on until 9:30. It may be a hobby project for Apple, but the Apple TV is something Apple did that just felt right.
I prefer satellite/cable, then you don't have to worry about what you wanna watch, you just put it on a channel and watch whatever is on. You find new, better shows that way.
@TheGregaM oh and yeah, I understand maximum 720p for streaming for internet, but sorry Apple, 1080p is todays standard, it should be possible to stream FullHD movies from other network computers
if you are just gonna talk to the camera then why do the picture and picture to show your desktop. Your video is tiny and hard to see. showing your desktop is a waste of space
Well, Apple TV may work for you, but I watch live television events only available on cable tv stations such as SyFy, USA, TBS, Spike, and more. WWE, Dirty Jobs, not available on Apple TV. The Apple TV is another niche product that only very few people are interested in.
netflix+hulu = never a need for cable. Though I'm not a fan of the appleTV, it doesn't even support 1080p and a lot of the popular online formats(like mkv) aren't supported; Then again, it does support itunes which is nice for people who use itunes store. i've been using itunes for years but don't even have an account :P
I have DirecTV and I watch what I want when I want to watch it. I use my HDDVR. I although do get what your saying but I have to have cable because I love sports.
Idk.. but for some reason Apple TV just doesn't fall under the spot light for Apple at all... Because they took away some features, like buying movies...
@nepalihercules bull shit. ok then tell me this, witch computers do u see hollywood studio use? they all use mac and y they a bettter built mashines and the softwear just works. but with gaming pc is better at the momet but it want b long till mac take over that also
@Aztianphotography you are fuckin retarded, mac = overpriced peices of fuckin shit made for the type of fucktards that will buy something because it looks cool anybody that has any common sense would realise that.
@EvilPinkBunnyRabbits thats not what i said at all man. Anything you want? Free? Im sorry but i dont believe you can watch ANYTHING you want for free unless your a fucking thief.
@AppleSoldier I meant me, I'm a big Apple Fanboy. Macs, iPods, iPhones and all that are amazing and im really against anything Microsoft, Dell, HP etc. but the Apple TV really isn't anything. I dont want to spend money on something I can get for free, and yeah i guess i am a thief but who doesn't steal at least one thing off the internet? Until it gets more features I'm just gonna stick with my regular Digital TV.
this guy obviously works for fucking mac, every peice of crap they make for the retards out there, he likes and spams videos about them. and incase you didnt know in the uk, the big companys for tv are "sky" and "virgin mdeia" both of those let you watch when you want when you want and record the shows without even been on that channel. mc tv = failure.
im in line with you eric, the only issue is live sports events, for the UK, you need cable or something like it to get live sports, sometimes ok its free on the web, but not all the time...sports and maybe news is what i need in apple tv because then GOODBYE lol ill be happy with an apple tv box than paying for cable or an equivalent...
@DRBUK i def think ill be getting an apple tv in the future, the key thing to me is the price, it was really holding me back but man now its pretty attractive !
Reply @EPS5000's comment "The only thing I use my TV for is Blu-Ray movies. For everything else, I can watch it on my 27" iMac via hulu, boxee, and iTunes."
-- Same, but also console gaming, once in a while. (and probably most what I watch is YouTube now anyways.)
yeah I don't really watch TV any more and my parents see that I am always on my computer so they never got me another TV since we moved back into our house so I have not watch TV the way I used to before we left our house and I got my own computer even a mac computer. also I am too busy with school and doing videos on my channels here on youtube. so it is hard for me to find time to watch TV.
If I have a dvd player and dvds, what use can this thing be? Seems like a gymic I'd be interested in knowing what this thing can do that would classify it as a practical thing worth getting

@oBLACKIECHANoo this already makes those better than mac tv.

@ChocolatersPancake Who even carries their Apple TV and their original TV in a forest?
CHUMOROCKS 1 year ago
im in line with you eric, the only issue is live sports events, for the UK, you need cable or something like it to get live sports, sometimes ok its free on the web, but not all the time...sports and maybe news is what i need in apple tv because then GOODBYE lol ill be happy with an apple tv box than paying for cable or an equivalent...

@DRBUK i def think ill be getting an apple tv in the future, the key thing to me is the price, it was really holding me back but man now its pretty attractive !

The only thing I use my TV for is Blu-Ray movies. For everything else, I can watch it on my 27" iMac via hulu, boxee, and iTunes.

@EPS5000 you said it dude.

-- Same, but also console gaming, once in a while. (and probably most what I watch is YouTube now anyways.)

I'm sure Apple TV is great.
But I'm going to wait a few more releases until they release the Apple TV 3GS OS5 With Wifi... and a compass.

yeah I don't really watch TV any more and my parents see that I am always on my computer so they never got me another TV since we moved back into our house so I have not watch TV the way I used to before we left our house and I got my own computer even a mac computer. also I am too busy with school and doing videos on my channels here on youtube. so it is hard for me to find time to watch TV.
