very blessed to have grown up around Hengistbury head all my life, nice to learn a lil more about the bigger picture of the history of my home.. thanks
Makes me laugh how Europeans and many Americans think they are the entirety of the world. The Exploits of the Roman Empire in these wild lands and its entirety, is pissant scavenging by mere savages next to the might of the Warring States and Qin Empire of china 400 years in the past. Still excellent program, just sad that only these same subjects get this kind of attention over and over again by western media.
@munsterr777 They didn't obliterate it, they became it. First through the adopted cultural lineage of the Franks and then through the Saxons. The only thing that really changed between The Roman Empire and its descendants were that they were no longer capable of amassing such large standing armies, until the days of Napoleon. This is not to mention the offshoot that was the Byzantine empire, who thought of themselves as Romans before all else, nor the political might of the church.
@crimsonsamuraiftw Became what? They weren't roman, nobody was. The east couldn't re-takeover the west so what kind of roman empire is that. Political? The church couldn't stop the Vikings at all, they just had this "bright" idea of assimilation later. Rome is gone, thanks Germanics!
It would be nice if there was a version of this for Americans that would stop suddenly, show you a map with an X marking where we are now; we are now here and we were over there, see that?
I am not complaining but I thought the image would be humorous to those who already know the locations by heart.
This is not available in many places because the BBC blocks this documentary from viewing in the US, which is understandable: no tax support money flowing from the former colony. After watching this I'm inspired to build a stone circle in my backyard and meditate on the arresting of the slow but relentless intellectual deterioration of the minds in America.
Thank you for sharing this great video ;-)

@kevinaugustine Too true. I love my America but you're right. It seems that other Americans are more and more proud of their willful ignorance.
