i have a 70 challenegr with a 493 and i was wondering how exactly 493 cubes in made? what rod length and what bore and stroker because ive never had the engine opened up and i bought it from a dead guy and im not the best with math..so any hep?
Ok. A cold weather block is not an engine thats been laying around in a bar in canada. These rare blocks are commonly referred to cold weather/industrial blocks. There is more rib support cast in the side of the block for added strength and rigidity. They came as 413/426/440 displacements. The heads Are Max Wedge Ported Edelbrock VICTOR 440 heads. And yes, the cam is .700" lift.
What is a cold weather bock? Or block never heard of that? Does that mean it sat in a barn in canada? And damn what is victory-max wedged heads? Really? And that is the tame 700 lift cam! Are you sure you know what you have there?
@lastofgenxxx I am very much aware of what I have. I was one of the engine builders and I selected the cam shaft. The cam is indeed .700" lift. The engine actually idles at 1200rpm. has a power range of 5000-7800 RPM. If you need more proof, watch the video link above. This engine propelled a 3500lbs road runner to a best of 9.80 @ 139 MPH.
r u running a timing belt? won't help with the oil pressure just curious. now we're running evacuation systems for the crankcase, pump or pumps, good for fifteen hp max rpm. that was awesome on a homebuilt stand
@moosemobile33 The heads are Fully Max wedge ported Edelbrock 440 Victor Aluminum Racing Heads. Valves are 2.20 Intake and 1.81 exhaust. The engine will turn over 8000.
That is bad to the bone! I have to settle for my 68 Imperial it has the 440 in it stock with 118,000 mi on it. I love a built engine so I will do a mild build just to enjoy and use this car to tow my boat.
very sick. my wedge builds a ton of oil pressure too, 80psi at idle and about 100psi crusing down the highway. And its only a stock internal pickup hi-volume.
Bottom end is studded and girdled... Operating range is 5000-7800 on the cam... The engine performs very well flawlessly at these RPM's as it should. No reason why it shouldnt be able to spin that fast...as thats what its intent is.
Thanx for the stats. That's so ironic in the vid response because I'd like to put one like it in a '70 Dart Swinger 340 Hurst if I can get one - wow lol
Is that a Roadrunner ?

@Giftied Man... I would love that....That engines in my fathers road runner now, but I pretty confident that it would fit.

I think to much oil pressure could wash the bearings! 80 psi. is plenty! Let us know what it turns, thanks!

wow nice. I now know the supertrapp exhaust tips can work on my 454 fiero. Was wondering if they might quiet a big v 8 enough to drive on the street.

Nice engine, turn that oil pressure down, 10lbs per thousand rpms is a good rule. Save some horsepower! (and your oil pump drive shaft!)

theres no way you would need to turn 7800 rpm with a 4.15 stroke, your running it out to far
