Question, say that enough people survive and some level of order was restored to society and our efforts were focused on developing technology again. I wonder how long it would take before any infrastructure would start being developed? 500 years out.
I could see Stephan falling victim to radiation poising, but how did it happen to Denise? Was it just from the exposure they encountered when Denise took off outside? The rest of the family didn't seem to have radiation sickness.
I'm sorry, but even in Gone With the Wind they lined the injured up in rows for easier access. In M>A>S>H> they laid them out in rows. This is supposed to be a hospital? It's mayhem, and the effect would have been greater if it were neater. More impact.

If there was ever radiation or hazardous material contamination, if you had access, wash down with clear water. Do not rub your skin (cuz that puts the chemical into your system), but rinse yourself off with as much water as you can access, to get it off your body. Having taken off your clothes first, discard them (cuz they'd be permanently contaminated as well), and have a clean outfit to put on after. This is your best chance (according to FEMA, etc).

the atomic bomb was a desperation weapon, which started the production and advancement of nuclear weapons, we should of stopped after we saw the horrors of hiroshima and nagasauki, but the other countries developed the technology to make nuclear weapons, so we felt we had to make them to, because we were scared that the same horror of hiroshima and nagasauki could happen to us, so we madethem to protect us. If only dipolomacy could repace warfare all together, then we would like in a better worl
War is hell. War sucks. However, the ideal of "civilized" warfare ended with the American Revolutionary War. Does that make us, citizens of the United States, animals, and therefore responsible for all of the ensuing conflicts of the world? The ideal of nuclear weapons is deterrence, plain and simple. I don't like them any more than the next man, but it is what it is.
there is no justification in using nuclear weponry on civilians.
i understand that it had to be done, and that it saved millions of lives, but that doesnt make it right.
if i kill a billion people to save a trillion, is that acceptable? maybe it was the best thing to do, but still, i killed a billion people, and that is not right.
The US was fully justified using the A bomb on Japan, it's war, the japanese didnt exactly play ball with any of the treaties they signed or when they started marching people to death and then humiliated and starved prisoners (military and civilian) in their camps.

BTW Many many more people died of conventional bombings in Japan than were killed in the nuclear attacks and fallout.
You are right episteme240. Napalm bombs caused bigger disaster than the nuclear bombs in Hirosima and Nagasaki, because 10-20 cities were burnt because of them.
And then it was the evil Germans and Japanese who commited holocausts. America brought this to a new age... Napalm and nuclear holocaust.
I don't mean if the Russians or Germans or Japanese had invented the nuclear bomb first, would they not use it.
Once they attacked Pearl Harbor unprovoked, they open the door to any and all types of retaliation. Its war, the object is to utterly destroy the other side, as appauling as that is . End of story
I've read plenty and considering that you were the one refuting that Japan was exploring creating nuclear weaponry around the same time we were doesn't speak to highly of your literary skills but I digress. I personally find it appauling that you excuse blatant civilan deaths by the Japanese in conquest over the use of atomic weapons as a strategic option during a war. Keep in mind the Japanese slaughtered thousands of Civs too and if you don't believe me maybe there is a book you can read.
Actually the record of the Japanese miltary during WWII justifies the actions of using these weapons. The discovery that they were working on their own only cements that fact that maybe in your narrow world view you can't fathom that others would have used them if they had them before the US. And you want to talk about crimes against humanity lets see your bleeding heart for Baatan or Nanking.
Well then obviously you don't know what you are talking about. The History channel exposed the Japanese Atomic Program on both US and British television and it is throughly discussed online as well. That and there was no brink of surrender the Japanse military wanted to continue to fight thus ignoring Potsdam and the German's Terms for Surrender which is one of many reasons the bomb was dropped, despite any veteran commander's objections.
If that is true they why did they not surrender and spare themselves this obscene destruction? They knew we had the bomb. They had all the knowledge the Germans had about it, hell, they were even building their own. They have alot to do with why those bombs were used and though terrible, they were the ones that allowed that hell so you condemn them not the US.
Right. The nuclear weapons we used on Japan were a mercy compared to what would have happened had we allowed the Japanese to continue the war. The plan was to destroy all transportation infrastructure so that we could starve them out. The Japanese were already starving to death, at the end of the war the average civilian was only getting 1700 calories a day, and the government instituted a program to collect acorns for food!
The comment was, "Why are Americans so America-centric"; "us" (being anyone who are not American) did not enter into the equation so my comment was perfectly apt.
Oh, and by the way; the number of American people who have viewed these videos outnumbers the amount of British people by a ratio of approximately 13:1. So yes, you ignorant ass, most of us DO indeed live in the United States. We will enjoy our "martial law", while you continue to enjoy your fantasy that the UK is some perfect, flawless haven. Hate to ruin the illusion, but such a place does not exist; the leaders of the US and the UK are equally full of shit.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The UK is not a flawless heaven by any means we have our problems like anyone else!. We however do not push our ideals onto people (we stopped that about 150 years ago). And before you say how do we glorious Americans do that ? mcdonalds in every major city (kabal opening soon), coke being sold in the middle of the amazon jungle. Cultural invasion is in many ways worst than a military invasion.
I don't eat at McDonald's and I don't drink Coke. You're blaming every American for every silly American trend, which is short-sighted and presumptuous. Before you start pointing fingers about cultural invasion, think about "American Idol" and other shows of its like; they are based upon British shows. The culture of the UK and the US have much more in common than you may like to admit.
Well what d'you expect? As much as the Americans like to make fun of the British and vice versa, basically all of the Americans are just decendants of British Colonists so ofc they have more in common than expected
Of course we do. Most English speaking nations do. In fact, studies show that, as progressive as the US likes to tout itself, at the core our culture is still very steeped in British tradition. Maybe that's why Australians, Brits and Americans bicker so much; it's almost like sibling rivalry.
I might believe that you didn't eat at McDonald's or drink coke for a certain period of time, but I don't believe that you NEVER ate there or drank it, do I?
And I don't really CARE that you don't believe me, do I?
Your jab would have impact if my statement had indeed been "have never eaten McDonald's or drank Coke"; my statement was "I don't," indicating present tense; I have not touched either in almost a decade.
Maybe 150 years ago. But now I wouldn't say most "Americans" are descendants of British colonists. Heck, soon more than half of all American citizens will have descended from non Northern European immigrants.
that is completely tru, funny thing is you got the old thumbs down so either the truth hurts to americans or the british resent the comparison (im guessing ill also recieve the thumbs down lol)
@K1ll3R4LYF3 No, the original colonists of america are of British decent for the most part. Through the centuries, though, we had alot of immigration from across the world, so i would view america as a half-brother of england. we aren't all descended from you, but we share alot of customs and traditions.
Those arent invasions... McDonald's and Coke do not FORCE other countries to open franchises...they are invited there by the various governments. And if you think America doesnt have its share of foreign companies (many from the UK) operating within it's borders, than you, sir, are extremely ignorant.
When this originally aired in the UK, I didn't know any of these actors. Upon viewing again - over a decade later - it was kind of shocking to see it was Steve Guttenberg, having known him for comedy roles. Great performances from both he and Jason Robards (RIP).
Interesting annotations, perhaps they should show this again due to all the sabre rattling that is going on... Thanks for posting

When did it air in the UK? We didn't get to see "Threads" until several years later, and even then, it was aired only twice on public television.

This aired here (UK) around 84 or 85. I remember seeing it and being scared shitless by it.
Thanks for taking the time to post all these parts.

most of us dont live in the united states - genius, please enjoy your martial law

The comment was, "Why are Americans so America-centric"; "us" (being anyone who are not American) did not enter into the equation so my comment was perfectly apt.
Genius....

This comment has received too many negative votes show
The UK is not a flawless heaven by any means we have our problems like anyone else!. We however do not push our ideals onto people (we stopped that about 150 years ago). And before you say how do we glorious Americans do that ? mcdonalds in every major city (kabal opening soon), coke being sold in the middle of the amazon jungle. Cultural invasion is in many ways worst than a military invasion.
niallos123 2 years ago
I don't eat at McDonald's and I don't drink Coke. You're blaming every American for every silly American trend, which is short-sighted and presumptuous. Before you start pointing fingers about cultural invasion, think about "American Idol" and other shows of its like; they are based upon British shows. The culture of the UK and the US have much more in common than you may like to admit.
lothartheterrible 2 years ago 3
Well what d'you expect? As much as the Americans like to make fun of the British and vice versa, basically all of the Americans are just decendants of British Colonists so ofc they have more in common than expected
K1ll3R4LYF3 2 years ago
Of course we do. Most English speaking nations do. In fact, studies show that, as progressive as the US likes to tout itself, at the core our culture is still very steeped in British tradition. Maybe that's why Australians, Brits and Americans bicker so much; it's almost like sibling rivalry.

I might believe that you didn't eat at McDonald's or drink coke for a certain period of time, but I don't believe that you NEVER ate there or drank it, do I?
PennsylvaniaRyan 2 years ago
And I don't really CARE that you don't believe me, do I?
Your jab would have impact if my statement had indeed been "have never eaten McDonald's or drank Coke"; my statement was "I don't," indicating present tense; I have not touched either in almost a decade.

...basically all of the Americans are just decendants of British Colonists?
You have no clue do you?
Vehan80107 2 years ago 2
Maybe 150 years ago. But now I wouldn't say most "Americans" are descendants of British colonists. Heck, soon more than half of all American citizens will have descended from non Northern European immigrants.
arscon 2 years ago 2
that is completely tru, funny thing is you got the old thumbs down so either the truth hurts to americans or the british resent the comparison (im guessing ill also recieve the thumbs down lol)

@K1ll3R4LYF3 Speak for yourself, sir! I am French, Scottish, and German.
mbabist01 2 years ago
