I work for the University of South Alabama, Marine Sciences, and I recorded this video with a Seabotix LBV200 remote operated vehicle 20 nautical miles SE of Dauphin Island, AL in mid-August 2006 at 20 meters. We estimated these fish to be 15-30 lbs each and the school size to be 1000.
I am from the Valley as well, but closer to Port Isabel. I suspect this to be surfside Gulf of Mexico, but unsure of where on the coastline. This is the best underwater footage of reds I have seen.
