I just tried Bing after watching this video. 2 stars, Two thumbs down and a D-. Google maps was made for the people. These guys are the people who cut you of on the freeway.
I feel like this technology should be a lot bigger than it is - more appreciated and utilized, u know? I remember seeing his TED presentation back in 2007 and couldn't wait to see this stuff in action.
@YoutanPoluo What! The map functions, meaning navigation, are useful. Everything else is just a gimmick. "Yes they have a road map, but ours has glitter!"
bing is microsoft and microsoft has been doing an exceptional job for years now. i still use google out of habit but bing is more accurate, learns as you use it, and the image search is wonderful. bing maps easily surpasses google maps but I can't get the sky view to work. is that still in beta? also i've been looking for the beta link and can't find it. Does anyone know where to get it?
Before I watched this video, I did not like Bing, simply because I don't like the name or logo. That's just the way I am, but I think if I use Bing more often, I will start to like it more.
Amazing work on the augmented reality and merging the geotagged photos. Would love to see how this works outside of cities, where the spatial information may not be as acurate.
Wow, What an amazing idea. No wonder Microsoft is so big! All this time I was thinking that I had a less mal-ware ridden and more stable OS by using Linux.

They're not big because of their ideas, They're big because of their market strategies since they were the first ones to sell Software separated from hardwares so people are able to build their own computers, its very cheap that way and MS Dos/Windows became famous. Now about Linux its something like: If people are able to build their own PCs why not a Software Open Source that anyone can modify and transform etc. In other words: Linux is perfect for developpers.
lol i have the same vid, not the same but about streetside. I love bing. Its great search engine and a great map. I have tried it alot, the map and now i am a bing user. love it.
Question? What is the difference between this and Google maps? Why isn't Firefox or Chrome supported for the 3D option? Why do I care about the stars in the sky in a map?
Simply awesome Blaise, you're really leaving Google Maps behind with this innovation. Look forward to seeing how we can create our own applications using this new feature in silverlight.
Hey i hope you see this. I use google chrome and i noticed a few bugs with bing. #1 when in visual search if you double click the who screen gets highlighted, and when trying to change the relevance of items the dropdown menu doesn't really work. #2 when using google maps if you double click it highlights the whole thing again. thanks and its my pleasure to google stuff on Bing.

@nriab23 Hi, nriab23,
Try visiting bit dot ly slash streetsidephotos to experience this.
You can also just visit bing dot com slash maps slash explore.

I LOVE Streedside from Microsoft (Bing)
MrHabbman 1 year ago
i like bing streetside more than google streetview, only problem is that the google map database/image quality runs circles around bings.
bing streetside runs alot smoother and you can even rotate while moving and the transitions are alot more viewable and smoother.

Brilliant. Have been looking forward to this since the first previews of Photosynth.
Agree with everyone else about the naming and branding though. Bing's just so damn nasty. ;-)

You are using the Classic Bing Maps and not the silverlight powered version... Works great for me in FF3.6 and Chrome.
