He'll also be remembered for his 2 oscar nominations for Murder Inc & Pocketful of Miracles. as well as his supporting roles in It's a Mad,Mad,Mad, Mad,World. • I just love this show!!

  • smoking in a bookstore? man the world used to be a lot different.

  • @colorconnection

Forgive him, I think it's not lit :)

  • @Columboisback No it's lit, watch the smoke come out especially at the 2:01 mark.

  • @colorconnection

I wonder if they cleared the rights to use that book. The world sure was different then.

  • What episode is this?

  • the conspiritors

  • @TbonesandJen

    The Conspirators (1978)

  • so wonderful!

  • Thank you :)

  • LOL! She is so right about the wife surprising him. There's a whole world of sex-appreciating women out there, as any browse through a fansite will show. :)

Love the show. Thanks for uploading these clips.

  • You are welcome, thanks for the comment :D

  • Wow for me his voice is strange cuz i used to watch it in hungarian translation, where he has a deep and old voice :D

  • Yup :) Peter Falk's voice is a perfect match for the Columbo mannerism :)

  • i heard the characters name was robert, but it's more than likely he didn't have one. falk was extremely likeable and his book is brilliant.

  • The name is still a mystery, Philip and Frank are the most popular ones :)

  • On one episode someone ask his first name, he sais "only my wife uses it " well I guess that settles it, we just don,t know.Morse would not tell either, It was just Morse but in ome episode h tels, his name, As far as I know it does not happen in Columbo. Just as the fact you never see the Mrs even if they,re on a cruise ship together on holiday;-)

  • unfortunately we'll probably never know unless the authors decide it together... :)

  • There,s fun in it if it remains a mystery .inspector Morse never used his first name because he was ashamed if it, Maube Columbo has the same thing;-) Ofcourse it is just to tease us ;-)

  • I know there are screenshots of Columbo where you see his ID and it LOOKS like it says..."Frank" but I don't know. As for "Philip", that was an answer someone made up. I learned this all at the Ultimate Columbo Fansite!

  • Yes, it's true...and it seems Frank is the obvious answer to many of the Columbo fans as the Lieutenant's first name. However, there is no official confirmation...especially from the creators Levinson and Link. Thanks for the comments, much appreciated. :)

  • do you have the whole episode?

  • I can't even upload any more Columbo clips because of the copyright issues...even though I repeatedly said that these clips would promote DVD sales, NBC is condemning and Youtube rejected further uploads on the same issue...even when the motion was challenged. I am sorry, I won't be able to upload even clips anymore...Thanks for the comment though :)

  • haha, so he is human afterall!!!!

  • He is...remember he is also a loving husband :)

  • I have a hard time imaging that the character Frank Columbo has no children. I have always imagined the character having a daughter.

  • Two things, first it's not absolutely sure his first name is Frank, there are also strong arguments that his first name is Philip. Secondly, in a way right, the tv series based on Columbo's wife, Kate Columbo had in fact shows Lieutenant and his wife indeed have a daughter :)

  • But the character is definetly no "Philip". I mean the character is a Frank, don't you think?

  • I have replied the question in my new blog, but it seems I couldn't post the link, it's not letting me...I will post the link in your channel page :)

  • yeah i know he is, but no woman could be that strict, it is culture afterall!!! hehe, and his wife is an amateur artist who would of course appreciate that fact. If you can remember he did mention in an early episode that she did paint by numbers.

  • LOL :) I don't remember it...but funny...Thanks for mentioning it... :)

  • no problem, it was funny, especially since he revealed this little snippet of information, in an art gallery, to a rather snobbey art dealer. her look was priceless. to me this added to the dimensions of his wifes character :)

  • Thanks for the comments :D

  • did they ever show his wife in any of the episode?

  • Nope, the series never shows Mrs. Columbo, however, there was a series (1979) called Mrs. Columbo a.k.a Kate Columbo starring Kate Mulgrew. :)

  • This was one of the great episodes. Do people realize that the "Columbo" series is based on Edgar Allan Poe's Inspector Dupin? Columbo's little French car, his Puegeot convertible, is a tribute to Poe's Dupin.

  • Not exactly right, I am afraid, the great Sherlock Holmes was partially based on Augustus Dupin, as Arthur Conan Doyle himself admitted and through Watson in A Study in Scarlet. Lieutenant Columbo is directly based on the character Porfiry Petrovich featured in Crime and Punishment by the Dostoevsky!Porifiry is the chief inspector who knew who committed the murderers and waited for him to confess the crime, with his great investigative skills he identified him, singled him out like Columbo :)

  • I meant the great h Dostoevsky!

  • Columbo creators Richard Levinson and William Link were inspired by the entrapment methods and psychological strategies of Porfiry Petrovich while building the great Lieutenant. Thanks for the comment :D

  • columbo is the man . i thought the early episodes were far better than the later ones he made maybe they change the writers the storys was much better in early years

  • Columbo series older or newer, both attract millions of fans, all over the world people enjoy them. Thanks for the comment :D

  • man columbo is so much great! i got to say.. i'm 18 now .. it was produced longtime before i was on world but in my opinion columbo is one of the greatest criminalistic series ever made... and i hate the one produced today.. like csi or in germany the tatort oder polizieruf etc.

    thx for the upload

  • Thanks for the comment. Note that Columbo is not exactly an expert in advanced forensics or criminalistics (see Columbo likes his Job) he is more interested in inconsistencies. Thanks for the comment :)

  • yeah i know.. but it's not that easy for me to express myself correct in english^^ so i just didn't know the correct word but thx for fast reply ;)

  • You are welcome :D

  • God I loved that series, he always reminded me of my father

  • That's interesting...thanks for the comment :D
