  • Hi. Nice review but i do think that the Epiphone Sheraton or Casino sounds better and around the same money.. What do you think???

  • @pete001uk Casino is a completely guitar - Totally hollow, P90's, different neck joint etc. The Epiphone Dot, Sheraton and the Hofner Verythin are all more or less the same thing. The Sheraton is a Dot but more blinged up hence the bigger price tag. I'd say the Epiphones are SO worth the money, really fantastic guitars (I should know, I own a Dot). The Hofner seems like its the same woods and basically another funky 335 copy. I personally hate the horns on it so would go Epiphone. Peace. ;)

  • Noel didn't use these at all :/

  • Jeezez Hippy dude.....Your playing and sound in the last minute of this Vid is just fkn sublime!!! My god you feel the blues!!!! Kudo's!!!

  • Great overview. I actually thought the pickups did a better job overdriven. The PAF-style pickups on the Chinese Hofners are pretty blah. The real mini-humbucker Schaller-made pickups on German Hofners sound amazing and reason enough to get a German one.

  • The different sounds are lovely! ncluding the distortion. Very clear sound, which I am all for.

But, my Diamond Logo pickup from the 60's sounds very voice-like, close to the PAF Pro. The mid-range is all the way up. Any idea on how to fix it? I have inverted the soldering, got the "nasal" sound and switched back to the original. Any idea will be appreciated. : )

  • Hey Rob, im in the market for a hofner ct club semi-hollow guitar.... what are your thoughts on this guitar? is it a good buy in any way?

  • its random but ive always wondered, are you religious chappers?

  • 1:46.. I thought you were going to play the theme to Ducktales!

  • alright mate, err noel dont use one, he uses gibson es355 and 345. but if he does show me id love to see it

  • Hi , do you think i would be able to attach a Bigsby tremolo to that german beauty?

  • what is that 2nd bit you play? have the tab for it? hahaha its cool, realy catchy..

  • HI Rob this is an old video i know , but what strings do you recommend for this guitar , i have had it for a while now but i have some serious tone issues , im not sure its the strings or my amp( LINE 6 SPIDER 3.)

    Thanks mate.

  • Hello Rob,

I'm a silently follower of your video's and just found this wan when i was searching after Hofner clips. I'm a bassist and searching after vids of the Verythin bass. The hofner verythin guitar vids are the closest i get. Can you tell me a bit more about the quallity of these instruments?

    Greetings

  • mayones setius on the wall!! ;o

    me. want. NAO! :O

  • The heavier the stings probable the better also flat wound will warm things up quite a bit but keep in mind heavy stings don't bend to easy so it will limit blues bends etc.most amps can get a warm tone some better than others a tube amp with 12" speakers should do it .Don't go for amps that are real high gain as there not know for to warm a tone.Hope this helps.

  • The one tone I really wanted to hear was the one you didn't demonstrate - namely the warm fat Wes Montgomery jazz tone. A pity.

  • @jmsbk12345

I have one and absolutely love it ,easily compares to a es 335 at a 1/4 the price-the workmanship is spot on-Getting a Wes tone? you can roll back the tone control in the neck position and get something kind of close but remember this is a thin body- Its forte its a killed blues tone-hope that helps.

  • @urheadonastick Many thanks for your reply. Yes, I have one as well, my favourite being sunburst which I think has the classic look. I also roll back the tone control in the neck position and get something close to a jazz tone. What amp would you suggest and settings to complete that warm jazz tone? Strings etc?

  • whats the neck like?

  • nice riff at 1:46 :D may it be possible to get the chords of it? :)

  • @habbit0091 ahh.. forgot to ask :) what kind of amp is it in the video?

  • every guitar in the world isout of tune : / don't agree? you just can't hear it

  • nice stormy monday jam of yours at the end!

  • rob would you think this guitar would be appropriate for stoner-stuff(like kyuss, desert sessions, orange goblin etc.)?

  • i rip on my semi acoustics!! ;) not in front of other people though

  • Hey Rob, can you review the Hofner Shorty sometime, I want to know if it could make a good guitar for Rock and Metal songs.

  • Ain't never seen Noely G playing one of these...sure he would be playing a German one (probably of vintage age as well) if he had one though. John Squire used to play a 60s Thinline with Jackson Pollock paintjob-its in the fools gold video and a few live performances

  • CoolStuff!!!

  • Nice review!!

  • CONGRATULATIONS! you won the award for "biggest tea cup" ;)

    seriously, great review! very helpful!

  • The germans know what they're doing :')

  • The action needs raising on this guitar.

Too weedy and thin as it is.

It also needs heavier, or flatwound, strings.

Also..I don't mean to be overcritical or anything,

  • Sounds like i'd be good for Stone Roses covers.

  • what amp head is that!?! its insane! is it a rocker 30?

  • Wheres the backing track at the end from Chappers?

  • didn't even know that there are any good guitar factories here in my good old germany!

  • Back in the 60's when they used to crank it up for Death Metal eh?

  • it looks like a epiphone casino

  • @iondrummer No way, looks like a Hagstrom Viking.

  • DEsigned in germany. German components. Made in China. I have this guitar. Very well made. I cant find fault with it.

  • At 5:00: "That's the sign of a well made guitar...the Germans know what they're doing..."

Yeah, but umm, this is made in CHINA!

  • @ricdeed The Verythin CT/Contemporary is made in China. High priced Verythin's are made in Germany.

  • its really sad that Noel Gallagher is no longer with Oasis

  • No its not...

  • i lol'd

  • it'll be for better or worse :P

  • noone gives a fuck

  • @almostsk8er01

    well said

  • hey rob , that jam with the backing track was righteous and did strange things to my willy.

you should stop endorsing guitars and go on the road with a blues band.....

    are you still there ?

  • sounds like many other humbucker guitar..i like it..

  • 6:06

    brillliant

  • you should get in a vintage les paul :) the v99 or v100

they're just as good as the epi £350 :)

  • A Great Man !

  • Rob should really keep on going with promoting all kinds of guitars..its soooo fantastic. sharing good info with people all aroung the world. hell, i didnt know that this guitar brand existed.hahaa

  • that last bit was well worth waiting for!

  • love the blues jam at the end mate, a bit stormy monday to me!

  • surprisingly likable guitar (not my style usually).

I love the John lee hooker style jam at the end.

  • its a nice guitar but the thing that lets it down for me along with many guitars is the trus-rod cover, you just cant beat the 2 screw bell cover like on my Gibson LP

  • Look at Motor Trend, they tell how it is, the good, the bad and the ugly.

  • Yes, no guitar is perfect (well, Telecasters come close, haha) and I would love someone to point out the shortfalls before I find out the hard way. I didn't consider the difference between a review and a demo, you make a good point there. Mayby Chappers should have called it a commercial, haha

  • You know, Rob, I'm one of your greatest admirers and faithful follower of the MonkeyLord... but I have to agree with some of the guys here. Bunch of your videos in the last weeks looked like some advertisement. I see that being a pro musicain who makes his living this way has to do that but... we'd like to see more music videos and less "this is the best guitar in the world"-kind of reviews. Sorry, man...

  • Hi mate, this is a very valid point, and I agree with you entirely. I need to get the balance right, I just need some time to fire fight the work I have to do and then I'm back to it.

I am due to shoot three music videos next month which will go up on Youtube so that will be a good start ;-)

  • one again, the monkey lord spreads the mojo in the youtube land

  • Had a little chuckle when did a shred on that thing. Cool vid, really looking forward to the other reviews.

  • Is there anything wrong with the guitar? What is it lacking? Reviews should go both ways, or it ends up looking like a commercial...or is the guitar perfect? I didn't like any of the tones you got out of it compared to your other vids with PRS and ESP guitars, so I know you are capable of sounding like a god...

  • 6:06 this is where its at

    fuckin awesome

  • This guitar sounds pretty dull to be honest.. I don't hear the bucketfulls of warmness. Oh wait.. your probably getting paid for this lol

  • Hey Chappers,

That Blues part at the end was beautiful, I almost shed a tear. I love the way you were really feeling the music. Dude you Rock!

  • dude, chappers! I used to have a german-made Verythin with the mini-Hums.

probably the ONE guitar i've sold that I regret most.

    nice demo, buddy!

  • Little BB King action at 6:51.

  • first of all great review - but the blues part at the end of the vid would have been better if the guitar wasnt distorted or possibly with less gain/ more of a crunch tone since. the guitar is show cased more for its beautiful clean tones (thanks to the F holes) rather then the way it sounds when distorted. I dont think it sounds bad but I think you over did it a little

  • I disagree, actually the pups were quite hot... I had backed off the gain considerably and it just wanted to scream. Music, being art, is entirely subjective... a lot of people liked the blues bit, and since there are a number of videos already showcasing it's clean tones I felt it was time for a change ;-)

  • um.. off topic, what are your views on the vox night train chappers? what would you recomend to me the vox night train or the tiny terror head ?

  • I made an honest review of the Night train on Sonic State/Amped! Go check it out ;-)

  • thx mate, you rock chappers! also ur amazing you reply so quick!

  • checked it out, great site you got going on mate ;-) im still unsure wether to get the tiny terror head and the orange ppc112 cab, or the vox night train and night train cab. great review and the vox sounds great, but i am only 12 so moneys rather tight and i have been saving up for ages and i would still need another 200 quid to get the night train and cab, but tiny terror is alot cheaper.

christ that was a long message sorry 'bout that ;-)

    cheers

    Henry

  • Dude get the TT... It's just better ;-)

  • Dude,

    you are freakin' awesome :-)

you still recommend Orange amps after what they did to you :-)

    Jordan

  • what did they do?

  • haha chappers, thanks thats great. :D

  • Sorry Chappers.. But i laughed my tits of at 1:46... I was not expecting you to ever play something like that.. Oh and you seem to be lacking new videos lately.. Can you bung some old ones on occasionly? =]

  • Ha ha.. yeah I like a bit o' Django! I uploaded two today, got another couple going up this week... \m/

  • hate to be a debbie downer, but it sounds slightly out of tune in the beginning

  • Loved the end segment man! hope you include it in more of your reviews :)

  • Looks like I better had... lot of guys seem to like that ;-)

  • The clean sound didnt buy me immedieately, I`ve heard cheaper guitars sound nicer through a engl screamer, so it`s surely a question about taste and settings.

But, It looks like a freakin kickass guitar to play some rock n roll with!...or stoner metal like Pepper Keenan (who uses es335) :D

  • sorry mate, but that clean sound is a bit naff

  • nice to see you playing a semi, it looks a bit like my yamaha tvl. NAIIIIIIIIIIIICE

  • Fraternity of the String

    Nice...

    nice...

  • What i didnt know you liked Radiohead

  • Of course mate, incredible band ;-)

  • YEAH! Glad to hear that! My favorite band ever!

  • Wow... that blues improv at the end.. made me tingle inside xD

  • loveing the little bit of planet telex in there :)

  • your playing at the end sounds like sweet dreams by roy buchanan... nice...

  • Just a question... are you buying these guitars and demo'ing them or going through world guitars?

beautiful guitars... I have played both the verythin and the other similar guitars... but the verythin stands way out on both playability and feel.

  • playability as in versatility... that sounded really retarded

  • No mate, I work for three separate companies making review videos. Barnes & Mullins (Hofner, LAG, Faith, Honer), Sonic State - Amped (Everything from effects to guitars) and World Guitars where I go every month to demo in store. They all send me guitars to review, of course I always have the option to buy a guitar if I really like it ;-)

  • woot superhand!

  • Any word on the availability of the Shadow Kill Switch pot SH 124 Chappers?? Can't wait for it!!!.

    Matt.

  • Not sure yet mate, they will be available through Barnes & Mullins, maybe ask them?

  • i want to see chappers shredding on the hofner shorty in the near future

  • Great idea!

  • if you think thats verythin then look at the DBZ imperial.... thinner than the s series ibanez's

  • Was the Oasis thing a joke?

    I couldn't tell

  • yeah it was

  • Lol

Ok that's what I thought, but he looked so serious, usually when Rob makes a joke you can see it in his expression...

  • I have one of these guitars and it's great.

  • That second clean riff you played was immense, amazing cleans there, great to see someone not afraid to crank a hollow guitar too!

  • PLANET TELEX!!!

  • Just bought my new metal guitar, this'd be perfect for my jingly-jangly art rock band :P

  • You know the Germans always make great stuff

  • The guitar is actually made in China. Lulz.

  • I was quoting a horrible infomercial - Shamwow, in response to something duder said, no idea anymore

  • Awesome stuff here, great ending! Liked the Django "Minor Swing", and the "Super Hand" as well! ;-)

  • Well spotted sir ;-)

  • everyone's heard of oasis :P

  • Gorgeous looking guitar! I have a 335 myseld so i'm a fan of this one. I love to see you shred, but I ove it even more when I hear you play some soulful blues. A Versatile Simian! Take care buddy.

  • rob when are u gonna stop reviewing shit guitars and review something win

  • Ha ha ha.. but what do you really think???

I am reviewing a Mayones Regius very soon, trust me you will love that. Also I just got the Peavey Jerry Donahue which is superb.

  • cant wait to see that mayones reveiw i love them just dont own one lol

  • haha this is why we use solid bodies for death metal, not semi-hollow, hahah, great stuff rob.

  • The bits where you start on D almost sound like Dead or Alive :D

  • I enjoyed this, having a hollow allready it was nice to see you play one. I would be tempted with this, especially when you said Noel used one thats some good research :)

  • Sounds great! Hahh, I'm afraid that you, Sir, succeeded in giving me a bit of a GAS! ;-)

    Awesome review, mate!

  • 6:06 = pure class.

    WANT MOOORE!!!!

  • play that stuff more often man!

    your great at it!

  • Great tune at the end!!!!!

  • Need bari verythin

  • By the way the guitar on the wall is for sale, it's a Mayones Setius which has been modified with some worn hardware, second hand, battle scarred List price is £1,200 going for £700 ;-)

  • That sounds damn good when it's distorted!

Did i saw a Mayones standing face to camera on the stand?

  • Ha ha.. yeah just commented about that ;-)

  • I really don't know why are you selling this axe, i've got one and it's simply brilliant.

But i also heard that the new Mayo stuff is a way worse than couple years ago.

  • I really hate the look of these guitars but i enjoyed the review

  • needs peter green mod D:

I was quite suprised to find out it was a 25.5" scale length guitar.

  • i want the peter green mod, im scared ill stuff up my les paul xD

  • this is not thin. Check out DBZ imperial.

  • Someday you will find me, Caught beneath the landslide... champagne supa'nova in the skyeeeeeEEEEeeeeeeee.. Tara

  • you should actually make a 10 minute post of just a long blues improv, would be awesome :D

  • Ha ha... Yeah maybe, I'll have a think about that ;-)

  • Hahaha, death metal on a hollowbody.

    I'll do it.

  • The video quality seems to be down a bit from previous videos to my eyes, but the sound is excellent. Was this done intentionally to leave more file space for higher quality audio?

Oh yeah, the review. XD This is not the sort of guitar I would expect to see you playing, but it looks awesome and sounds great - I'll have to remember it when I'm looking for a hollowbody. By the by, was that a bit of Super Hand I heard from 5:20-5:45ish? Righteous.

  • 6:06 need more blues like this!

  • Haha! This looks like the Gibson ES335 which is a bit weird as I just bought a copy of the ES335 like 5 days ago lol!

    Go Hollowbodied Electrics!

  • That blues stuff at the end.. Thats class!!!

  • I love that guitar!!!!

Absolutely awesome, odd how i suggested to use this style for Chapman guitars, 2 days before i was aware this video was coming out!

Would you buy one? And how much was that one worth?

  • Yeah that was odd huh! I probably would get one for some blues, had a lovely tone for that... The price is in the video ;-)

  • Wow. £1000 cheaper that a 335, making around £350, I got my natural finish one for £149 at my local guitar shop, cause round here if it isnt Fender, Gibson, Ibanez, Schecter or Dean, they're always £300 or under =].

  • One of the things I like about your videos is it's HQ. Still, great video. Thanks Chappers

  • Naice. :3

  • does the video look shitty to anyone else?

  • It's still rendering mate, give it 5 minutes ;-)

  • amazing as usual chappers

  • good stuff sir monkey
