She's full of it... My Foodsaver bags NEVER leak! Be careful rib bones don't poke into the bag... *duh* ... That's the only problem I can foresee. The Foodsaver has saved tons of money for me just by allowing me to buy in bulk and freeze serving-size portions. I recommend the new fully automatic models that sit upright... MUCH easier to use. Perhaps she was just to scrawny to hold the old models shut while they sealed. In any case, that isn't an issue anymore.
The jar sealer lifts the lid just enough to suck the air out of the jar. When you turn the food saver off the suction from the lack of air pressure in the jar pulls down the lid which is now vaccum sealed on to the jar
I have to say that I have had my foodsaver for about 10 years, use it a lot, and have NEVER had a problem with it! It has saved me a ton of money because I can buy in bulk, vacuum seal individual portions (or family size) and not worry about freezer burn.
I don't care for Ebay. I have bought some things on there and none of them were worth the $ I paid. I even got ripped off. I will take my chances on a new item. Looks like now these machines are going for what I can buy a new one else where
Good and bad advise! FoodSaver brand is gargage and the used ones being sold on ebay are already junk. RARELY will you find an actual "Foodsaver Brand" in good working order on ebay. Best to buy another brand to start with. Also the bags are great, use a paper bag inside if sealing rice or sharpe things other wise buy non Foodsaver brand and they will not break open!
@urkingod Foodsavers are disposable junk, can't get parts or repair on them. Her advise to vacuum pack is great but her choice of product brand is really really bad!
