  • @Lapp6192 I have both of the tracks that you're talking about. If you'd like the MP3s, just send me a private message with your email and I'll send them to you!

  • this movie has done to "Saving Private Ryan" what "District 9" did to "Avatar". Saving Private Ryan had more marketing, was more talked about, and was a great movie but Thin Red Line is wayyyy better IMO. Same goes for Avatar.

  • Excellent selection of sound images and quotes I have been watching this repeatedly for the last 2 years

  • That scene at 3:20 is so touching. His expression sells that scene. If you can, watch this with good quality because you'll better see the tears start to build in his eyes. I bet Mel Gibson saw him in this and that's what got him the role of Jesus in The Passion.

  • Hello eldust, just to say I have watched this edit of yours many times over the last two years as part of my regimin to help heal terrible trauma inflicted on me and to remember what it is to be human. The job is complete now--to you and Malick (and Zimmer), thankyou.

  • @wawei67 I'm very glad that this video has helped you along your way. That really means a lot to me.

  • great movie i have to say

  • The best film of the 90's!

  • Btw very great trailer, better than official. Best parts here. thanks.

  • My all time favourite movie, no more beautifull movie ever created. This would be movie I'd choose to watch if I may chose last movie to see ever.

  • KREAM THE FILTHY JAPS.

  • A movie that really shows how horrible humanity can be, and five people in a row showing how dumb humanity really is. Arguing with people whom you know nothing about, just in order to get some sort of applause or pat on the back. Wow.

  • this film is so beautiful, my favorite film of the 90's

  • Japanese were as evil as Nazi.

Japanese abducted 200,000 girls throughout Asia & Caucasian women in Indonesia, raped them up to 50 times a day & buried them alive to save bullets.

Japanese govt will NOT apologize to sex slaves.

In 2007, Japanese govt org's bought 1 pg. of Wall Street Journal & filled it with OUTRAGEOUS LIES: (1) the females were whores who volunteered to serve Japanese soldiers. (2) Japanese govt paid them more than Japanese army generals.

    GOOGLE: Japanese military sex slave

  • @KimInLosAngeles Oh man, I'm sick of seeing people like you on every single Japan related vids. The war trials are OVER, get over it. If the acts were as serious, as u mentioned, then the perpetrators would've been trialed and punished accordingly, end of story. I've been to Japan and the ppl were kind, respectful and gentle. That's all I care about.

  • @malibutequila

You are one real human scum.

Some of the sex slaves who escaped are STILL ALIVE.

They just want Japanese to (1) apologize & (2) teach the truth & stop lying to the world that the victims were highly-paid prostitutes who volunteered to get dicks shoved into them for money.

You reap what you sow, so a scumbag like you (who defends rapists) will get your ass gang-raped up to 50x a day for weeks or months & then buried alive just like so many young girls in Asia.

    Go to hell!

  • @KimInLosAngeles You are accusing others for being evil yet you r telling me to get raped 50x a day and be buried alive? Wow..did u stop and listen to urself before u posted that rant? Anyway, back to the topic, you should learn that there's always 2 sides to the story and the Japanese claims that they have documents to prove their point too. Does it mean that they r clean? No, but we live in constitutional nations so the accused is innocent unless proven guilty.

  • @KimInLosAngeles Further, just because someone gives an emotional speach or cry out about injustice, it doesn't mean what they are telling the truth. I don't know how old you are but you should've leant that by now. My point? Stay neutral until the accused is brought to justice through legal mechanisms. Btw, don't get all worked up and tell ppl to get raped and die over something you read or saw. It is both immature and disturbing.

  • @malibutequila <-- "..That's all I care about" you say. Well, a suggestion, why don't u move your FUCKING ASS TO TOJO LAND THEN? U fucking little ignorant ya. When the japs assaulted our White women, that included AUSTRALIANS YOU DUMB FUCK! Read your doggone history ya smelly little fuck, unless your some kind of a slanted eyed mutherfucker yourself, the kind of trash you wrote doesnot belong to every true blooded Australian who remembers their history ya filthy little fuckface ya.

  • @1greatdude TOJO land, Slanted eye, whats's next? Gook? Race hate much? I bet u never been t Japan too. Of course, u don't want to go to "TOJO land" right lol? Why don't u get off that couch and see the rest of the world? Travel around for fuck sakes. You'd see then how pathetic and ignorant ur comments were. Getting all worked up over war crime vids am I right? The war is fucking over mate. Long time ago. Neither u or me have experienced it so don't talk like u know the whole fucking story.

  • @malibutequila <--- bla bla bla, take a break, go suck your own dick once in a while, no need to get all worked up..

  • @malibutequila amen brother

  • war films never understand the concept of recoil and muzzle flashes :p despite this this movie is one of the best war movies

  • "in this world a man himself... is nothing " "ani't there ain't no world, but this one " Is that true ?? :((

  • @11mrjarjar No, thats not ture

  • at the end when he gets shot, i cant find what the background theme is on the soundtrack, any help?

  • @garbageday99 The name of the track is "A Man Himself Can Be Great" by Hans Zimmer. It's not on the official soundtrack for the film. I have it on my computer if you'd like me to try sending it to you...

  • @eldusto84

yes I too would like a copy of that music, if it is what I think it is, it was the best music of the movie!

  • @eldusto84 I have been searching all over for that song and cannot find it anywhere! how did you come by it?

  • Simply one of the most profound films ever made, just take the time to absorb some of the dialogue and you'll see the world in a very different way.

  • Terence Malick doesn't have fans he has disciples he's a true visionary and i can't wait for Tree of Life i understand why some people hate his films they are slow moving and plot isn't top on the list of his priorities but for those of us who are into his kind of film making he is the greatest.

  • PS -- for those of you arguing that Terrence Malick made this as propaganda, or that it disrespects the soldiers of Guadalcanal, he simply adapted the James Jones book - Jones WAS at Guadalcanal and this is one of his takes on WWII and his own experience! (so was another of his works, "From Here to Eternity." Malick simply did a fabulous beautiful job of putting Jones' work onto the big screen

  • @zipporika The movie isnt much like the book though. Still an awesome movie (my fav :)

  • really love this trailer -- beautiful. "Thin Red Line" is one of my favorite movies of all time, this did it justice. thanks!

  • That Malick, has no respect for the soldiers that where fighting there. The real heroes.

  • Lol this movie sucks really its the worst war movie ever! The act like soldiers are stupid and have no moral. Watch pacific, hamburger hill, band of brothers ore we where soldiers. That movies are so much better!

  • @asgorotht

    Worst troll ever,

Terence Malick worst much more than creating stupid propaganda movies that you blood thirsted spirit watch with delight, and thin red line is much more than a war movie... So go watch your shit (even though I love BOB) and leave this master piece alone.

  • 2:53 one of the saddest moment in the movie :/

  • hey man, this movie really touched me, i absolutely loved it watched the whole damn thing over and over again and those late nights until sunrise. i just wanted to say i loved your vid, great way of capturing it all together. peace

  • @NorCal4Life925breh Thank you, I really appreciate the feedback. Please check out my other videos if you get a chance :)

  • Probably my favorite war movie...

  • This is definitely better than the actual trailer of the movie!

  • if you read the pamphlet that comes with the criterion collection blu-ray package, actually tells that this is first of all an anti-war movie, and the main and constantly recurring theme of the movie is the struggle between degeneration and regeneration that man has such trouble dealing with, but Malick in a very artistic way argues the point that the two forces are one, I think the light that Witt sees is that there is only one force in nature, for life you need death, very cool philosophy

  • Anyone know that song at the end when Private Witt gets executed? Beautifully haunting - I love it.

  • I can`t bealive you guys broth politics in to this excelent movie.I hade to watch it 2 times to realise is a psychological movie about the 2 main feeling of the human being in contrast:love(relation) and hate(war). Is not about war and politics.

  • Witt took it like a champ at the end.

  • @eldusto84 Last I checked bombing civilian cities, unoccupied by enemy forces, as well as raping their woman isn't considered 'good' an isn't any more justified than other atrocities. I don't dwell on the past, I don't justify. Germans did what they had to, as did the americans an others. Right and Wrong are just based on culture. It hardly pales in comparison. You didn't stop the USSR who killed what 60-80million? didn't stop them, the irony. oh wait you allied with them...ha!

  • @cecopiteco everything is racist,we don't have to even think about it to be.Thats called propaganda.

  • @OiSkinnHead69 i may agree with you.. i cant stand propaganda masked as arty films.. good stuff lauriel atkins - the ethiopians - desmond dekker.. !!!

  • @cecopiteco haha indeed

toots an maytals, bad manners ,english beat

  • @cecopiteco Quit lying and making shit up

  • The scene in which they invade the village is, in my opinion, the best scene in any war movie to date.

  • this was better than the actual official trailer haha

  • my all time favorite war film!

  • hey mate, the ending of your trailer is fantastic

no crap, better than the official one

    once again, great job there

  • @DaCevkoch Thanks, I really wanted to make something that was closer to the actual film. A lot of great films are marketed poorly, like this one was. They made it out to be like Saving Private Ryan when the only thing the two films share is that they both take place during WWII...

  • @eldusto84

yeah i agree. but seriously, saving private ryan aint got nothing on the thin red line

no offense,(i dont know if youre american) but i thought SPR was a little bit too patriotical

they offered the viewers a lots of stereotypes i think. i thought the makers intended to show how unbeliebeble evil the germans were and that theyre all nazis.(sure, a lot of germans agreed with the nationalsozialistic ideologie)

and the thin red line really showed what happens in war, on both sides

  • i would never go to war......... These guys are Dying like they die in every war.. Stop this shit you americans.. Never ever go to a country you dont know and kill fathers and sons... No weapon has ever bring freedom... Wacht auf!!

  • @heilstani Hey, alot of Americans don't want war either. :)

  • This is truly the best "The Thin Red Line" trailer I've seen so far.

  • If this movie had not come out around the same time as Saving Private Ryan or if it came out today I believe it would have win a lot of awards. It would probably win best film along with awards to Penn, Nolte and possibly Caviezel. The bottom line, no pun intended, is that this movie is an underated masterpiece.

  • I still wonder sometimes why Witt raised his rifle, instead of putting it down. Maybe he knew he was going to be killed anyway, or he couldn't handle being a prisoner. I'm not sure. Part of me also thinks that he was tired of this world, and just wanted to move on to the next one.

  • @dharmajazzbum

Witt raises his rifle forcing the Japanese to give away their position in shooting him, making it possible for his unit to presumably escape. I don't think in this gesture Witt is running from life toward death, but is instead rather affirming life in a fundamental kind of way. In his death lies his companions salvation, it's an altruistic gesture, one in which he affirms an idealistic but attainable mode of existence in contrast to the cynical views of Welsh, dying spark intact.

  • @dharmajazzbum

Witt as the metaphysical subject is life affirming, nurturing, almost maternal. He sees transcendence, or the possibility of it, in "everydayness", in simply existing. Witt sees in us the possibility to make a beautiful world, he sees our better selves, he sees that "spark in us", despite the great evil surrounding him. Ultimately I think The Thin Red Line is Witt's movie. The darkness of the opening shot, (crocodile), isn't undone but transcended by the sprouting coconut. (end)

  • @dharmajazzbum I think he came to the conclusion that there was no way out, the Japanese soldier makes some refrence to 'you being the one who killed my friend?', so they werent gonna give him an easy time I'd imagine if he simply surrendered, but, thats beside the point, like you say I think he finally found that inner calm, was content that he had achieved all he could and was ready to go.

  • @dharmajazzbum

i've read quite a few books about the PTO during WWII. It was a brutal and savage campaign. Witt know that both US and Jap forces took no quarter. He knew that if he attempted to 'surrender', the Japs would have made example of him to all other US troops that would have stumbled upon his remains. The Jap Imperial Marine actually did Witt a favor under the circumstances.

  • Good Job buddy! really enjoyed it.

  • I don't think accuracy was all that important to Malick because the movie's version of the war is simply the means through which to ask the questions the movie wanted to ask. And that's perfectly okay.

  • the Marine Corps' part of this campaign is totally ignored.

  • @Sturmmann This film is based on a novel by James Jones who actually fought in the battle the film is depicting. By the time the battle for Mount Austen took place the Marine Corps (as stated early on in the film) had "done their part".

I wouldn't say they were ignored, this film simply isn't about them. And there's not exactly a lack of films and series to chose from that exclusively covers the Marine Corps' in the Pacific Campaign and makes no mention of the Army.

  • The part where Witt gets killed always makes me sad.. Just imagine thoughts and fear he was feeling when he was surrounded.

  • I'm very impressed to see that this is a fan made trailer. Nice job. One of my all time favorite films!

  • Very well constructed trailer. One of the best war movies ever made. I did a critique of Full Metal Jacket, Apocalypse Now and Platoon. I would have liked to include this film but the three I listed were Vietnam commentaries. Perhaps I should do a review on this movie. The most poignant scene was when Penn stands over the grave of private 'Whitt', hiding tears and asking the proverbial question "where is your spark now". Truly a phenomenal movie.

  • This movie is incredibly unique, so unorthadox but the monologue's are a bit too far if you ask me. Get rid of a few of them and this movie is perfect.

  • Awesome job. This is probably my favorite war movie. Happy Veterans Day!

  • One of my most favorite movies by a brilliant director. Excellent and effective editing, accurately representing the essence of the film.

  • You are an amazing editork, thank, you for making this trailer, I can tell you put a great deal of hard work and emotion into it-

  • @UBiQproductions Thanks! This was one of the first videos I ever edited, so I'm glad it has held up over the past few years :)

  • I have seen another world... love this fil and music in it Zimmer is cool...

  • mabye all men got one big soul

  • I dont see how people can dislike this trailer that was made or this film, its amazingly done

  • Great Fim!! Great Vision!!

  • Look at me! I stand right up here and not one bullet, not one shot. Why? How come they all had to die, and I can stand right here?

  • Spoiler alert - America won.

  • 2'10'' : "You're just out of the academy, you got your war... 15 years and this is my first war..." Brillant description of humankind! God bless us, it seems this nightmare will never ever stop.

  • @1789Titi yup...sad group we are.

  • peerless film about the nature of war. and what a wonderfully made trailer.

  • Holy Shit! A 6 HOUR Version??? You must tell me where to sign the petition! This is a must!

  • Image seeing the FULL 4 1/2 hour version____I constantly wonder what magic could have been...

  • the only good thing about this movie is when it ended, i thought i hit the song the thin red line, not this crap of acting move

  • @wisers001 WOOOO YEAH WOOO!! BAM BAM BOOM BOOM BAM!! SHAKALAKAHAKAMAKA NEEKIU BOOM BOOM!

  • Great film...THE BEST user made trailer I've seen anywhere, especially considering the length. Including Bell would have been nice but it'd be hard to find just a few short clips that could give you a glimpse of his character.

  • @barbardme Thanks so much. Looking back on it, I probably should have included a clip or two with Bell in it but it was tough indeed to find a short enough clip to show his character's nature. That scene when he reads the letter from his wife is heartbreaking; one of the best scenes in the film honestly. Witt's demise was just more visually poetic so I chose to give that a lot of time in the trailer. Thanks again...

  • one of theeeeee best movies EVER made!!!!

  • Announced by the Criterion Co. for Sept., 2010!

  • epic movie , epic selfmade trailer !

  • killeraddiction- get off your moms couch and get a job---if you think this is a great movie. Obviously you have no clue and must be at least 12

  • @wisers001 Your ignorance astounds me. Please pull your head out of your ass. That's all I have to say to you.

  • i feel like crying

  • Book is still better:)

    But movie was fantastic.

  • I think the movie has a lot of cliches, mainly the amount of well known actors, but it is a great movie non the less

  • Comment removed

  • @xaxie1 actually it's quite the opposite -- TTRL is one of the (if not THE) most unique and 'effective' anti-war movies ever made as it breaks the cliches of old 'conventional' (anti-)war movies!

  • @xaxie1 That is not, by any means, a cliche.

  • I can't believe, that this (WAR) is in every man (not in every woman) on this world. Sometimes we are aggressive because of our eggs, but i never ever want to kill some other man or woman. I will left this planet as a "not murder". I think war is because some poor humans have to do it. Because of Propaganda and because why they get money for it and because the order of some other people.

  • I hope you all fucking die who thumb this down so the world could be a better place

  • it is so sad .

  • the contemplative narration ruins some of the scenes (imo). no need for narration or music in some scenes.

  • impresionante, en momentos parece que esta uno en la pelicula, la musica que suena en esta parte de la pelicula es bestial unido a las imágenes, un 10.

  • this is the worst movie ever, I don't take any respect from the men that died or fought there. Ps God Keep North America Safe. Thanks to our Men in Uniform!

  • @wisers001 Just say you're an idiot so we don't have to waste our time reading your post.

This is one of the most beautiful movies ever made.

  • fucking goosebumps....

  • us Z jew arabian french!!!!!!!!!

  • as you and others addressed, a bit long for a trailer. but it is excellent. well done. my only beef (this being my favorite film) --you completely avoid the role of private bell: his lines about the inherent, natural elegance of love speaks to the war/nature conflict on an entirely other level. it is key to malick's vision here. personally, i dont see how you can exclude that entire storyline. its a lot more profound than your typical war romance plot line and its a necessity to include

  • @kssoukup Thanks for your feedback. I didn't consciously avoid Bell or any of his ruminations, and I agree that his role is critical to what Malick is trying to convey. After all, it is Bell's silhouette that we see on the DVD cover! For what I was trying to do with this video, I just never found any scenes of his that fit. Of course I made this 4 years ago and would maybe do it a bit differently now :)

  • Hi entity, I actually made myself a Fan of the Directors Cut petition on Facebook! I really want to see Malick's original 6 hour cut of this magnificent film, and I'm sure many others do as well. Fingers crossed!!

  • @entity1891

all FANS, not only US !

  • @entity1891 SERIOUSLY?! That would be epic. I heard a lot more famous actors were used in the film, but cut out for the final product.

  • Its me again eldusto84,check out the fan page on facebook.....again love this trailer!

  • best movie ever, seen like 20 times

  • @RickMOKUM I';; sell you the 5 hour director cut for $150

  • @sapperzulu no thanks hahaa

  • Extended trailers they call them now!!

    Love this... really well cut

  • best ww2 film i think

  • awesome awesome trailer even if its 4:30. Captures the best aspects of the film, especially the war on and within nature.

  • @cometor38 I guess it's just more of a video tribute than a real tribute. I think it's great that so many people here understand that it's more than just a war film. Thanks for the feedback...

  • A Fantastic Movie about War Madness ***** Thx for This Great Trailer ¤¤¤ Peace ¤¤¤ SnOOpy

  • good work !

  • Great movie! I read the book from Janes Jones. Very very good!

  • the best trailer about this movie

  • @GreekParodios I'm glad you liked this, even though 4:30 is extremely long for an actual trailer haha...

  • @eldusto84 this is my favorite movie, and this is the best trailer :D

  • I think you should "cheapen" you trailer by doing a credit marquee at the end. Like, keep the music rolling against a black blackground, and flash up the names of the actors (or have that credits page with all that information, whether legible or not). :)

  • What an incredible story, I bought it after having rented it, and watch it about every six months. It helps to keep me grounded. The cast, characters and music are by far the best.

  • i loved this movie. Its a shame how my generation wouldn't give a damn about this movie unless it was like saving private ryan and had a lot of blood, guts, and explosions.

  • It is one of the best anti-war movies of ww2.

    great music.

  • you should watch 'stalingrad'.

  • I saw Stalingrad many times, and he is one of the best too, also "hunde wollt ihr ewige leben."

  • I seen this movie 4 times, it's my favourite movie, and in my opinion the best. Thank you for this amazing movie.

  • very good work 5*

  • Why did they have to have the crazy guy from the movie in those scenes ?

  • loved this movie. truly explains a paradise lost.

  • absolutely excellent... you honor Mr. Mallicks work with your interpretation. you end with my favorite bit of score from the film that was unreleased.... and you give new gravitas to the conversation between witt and sean penn's character. Which is the core of the film. Thanks for posting!

  • I'm glad you enjoyed this video. Yes, that end piece of music is fantastic, and I just don't get why it was never released on CD. You are also right about Welsh and Witt's conversation in the brig...it is a very important scene that shows how two different men view the world.

  • Very well done.

I love this movie, it's so deep and moving.

  • Anyone know the name of the song at the end of the clip?

  • Not sure what the name of the song is. It was never featured on the soundtrack and I only used the audio from the actual film itself. It's a fantastic song!

  • In Paradisum (Requiem, Op. 48 - 1893 Version, Ed. John Rutter)3:30English Chamber Orchestra, King's College Choir, Cambridge & Stephen Cleobury100 Best ClassicsClassical8028

  • @eldusto84 It's amazing. I've been searching the internet and can't even find the name of it. Would love an mp3 if you've got one. How were you able to separate the audio tracks?

  • @jpw4134 I also do not know the name of the song. I didn't separate the audio tracks either; I simply used the actual audio from the movie. It would be great if they released the FULL soundtrack since there are many other tracks that only appear in the film.

  • Can I add this clip to my "Petition for The Thin Red Line Director's cut by Terrence Malick" Facebook group? Thx.

  • Sure thing, go right ahead. I'd love to see Malick's original cut, even if it is six hours long.

  • I sat with a gf back a few years.. told her this was a piece of art.. a few minutes into the movie before giving it a chance she said it's boring, not going anywhere and stupid. Guess she'll have to find another lawyer to waste the time of.

  • @methodicaltruth you have the same story about your GF on every TRL clip on Youtube. God, you are bitter!

  • @deebadubbie haha Do i really? Can you reply link them to me? I mean.. If i did it now, i probably did it three years ago. its not bitter. Its just when i see this, a particular reminder comes to mind ;)

  • I saw it only on a couple of TRL clips.... a little exaggeration never hurt anyone! :)

  • @methodicaltruth I feel your pain. I knew a gal who'd never seen The Godfather hard to believe, yet was a huge Al Pacino fan. When she finally saw it she gave up after the wedding saying what your gf said.

  • @methodicaltruth Women aren't exactly intelligent creatures.
