...continued..They were hounded wherever they went and were killed and murdered by Europeans. NOW, the Spaniards have made such a fuss about Andalucia and all that crap. They cannot digest that the most soulful thing in Europe is NOT European at all ! Just contrast the free-flowing flamenco with the self-conscious and oh-so-affected 'classical' song and dance of Europe. Flamenco is deeply oriental in its feeling, form, function. Just live with it, and don't force your crap down our throats.

Until recently, Flamenco and all the other gypsy arts were held in the greatest derision in Europe, Spain included! It is only now that they are so 'proud' of flamenco, which is actually an ancient gypsy expression, both in music and dance, which is definitely traced back to India from where the gypsies travelled to a famous enthronement of a Persian Emperor. They stayed back and later dispersed to Europe where they settled in a large concentration in Rumania in particular.

By the way I LOVE traditional Indian dance. I studied Chinese kung fu and for about two years we did many demonstrations together with an Indian dancing group. Good memories.

I also did some research on the flamenco dance and on wikipedia it is said that it originates from Andalusia, (southern Spain) but had Arabic, Gypsy and Separdic influence. Also it has been changed by other Latin American countries, but the origin is traced to southern Spain.

I'm spanish. Blade0817 tells the truth. Flamenco is original of andalucia, where lived together Arabic and autochthonous, and gypsis later. The result of this cultural mixture is the Andalusian culture, and therefore, Flamenco.
