If we closed down the hundreds of foreign military bases and brought home the hundreds of thousands of troops stationed at those bases we could easily protect our borders. It makes too much logical sense to be a legitimate idea in American politics.

and besides that, an armed and patriotic citizenry is the greatest defense a country can have. look at how Switzerland was able to stay neutral in both world wars because no one wanted to attempt to occupy that place, the entire swiss population were/are well armed and ready to defend.

look how much trouble the US is having in Afghanistan! no army could ever control/occupy the USA as long as the people are armed. Currently the biggest threat to the USA and its freedom is its own government

Why is it the responsibility of the US to protect the people of Afghanistan? By all accounts they are the enemy.

As far as I see it the only way to "win" is to be ruthless, violent and overwhelming. If it moves kill it. Resettle the area with more peaceful people.

I remember listening to Chomsky less than a year ago saying that Karzai wanted the US troops out of Afghanistan and that the US would smear him and strip him of his power. It seems he knew exactly how it would play out.
