i loved the texas chainsaw massacre remake. the friday the 13th reboot was a fun popcorn movie, anoes remakes was pretty good. now that i think of it the only remake i hated was the halloween remake. platinum dunes makes pretty good ones.
nightmare was decent. halloween was ok, friday was ok and chainsaw was pre good. Dunno about child's play and hellrasier remakes. the slasher remakes that pissed me off the most was black christmas and prom night.
They even want to make a remake of Chucky! The remakes are the TRUE horror. Never NEVER try to remake milestones and icons! I don't want that. They always say that they do the remakes to show these milestone in a 'fresher' style to show it to the 'young and new generation'. WHAAAT?! That's like casting a new Beatles band to do that. An original is an original and it has to get protectedf from greedy hollywood-mosters who just want to make money. It's just embarassing and sad. SAVE THE ORIGINALS!
You've hit the nail on the head and the ONLY reason these movies, which really aren't that old, are being remade is because they make shit tons of money. Originality has taken a back seat to box office returns and i don't see that changing any time soon.
What makes Freddy so scary is that Wes Craven was inspired by a horrendous occurence that happened in the real world. Add in he's as malignant as Satan, and can attack when you are the most vulenerable which is when you are asleep. I think it would be interesting to see real fears in nightmares that Freddy uses.
So for heights get them very high, for Sharks get them surronded by shark tanks, etc.
Yes, I love that part about him. Many other horror icons really lack personallity. Hell in films like Friday the 13th or Halloween, they can just be played by some random big guy, but Robert really made Freddy into this great horror icon(especially his laugh, they need to make sure which ever guy they stick with for Freddy, he can get that laugh right).
Add in the puns. What made Freddy a grand horror icon is that he was already a depraved maniac before he was killed, then he was killed in such a barbaric horrendous way he came back as a more minacious grim brutal demon. You couldn't really run from Freddy that makes him unique because all people need sleep.
i heard that wes craven is really pissed with the production of the new nightmare on elm steet remake and f**k me friday the 13th is not a f***ing remake its a god damn relaunch
The thing that makes Freddy more terrifying to me is that Freddy enjoys killing while Jason and Meyers show no emotion. I guess the guy who played Rorschach(Jackie Earle Haley) is going to play Freddy. I am much happy that he is going to play him than Billy Bob Thorton. I think he could pull it off better than BBT could, but this film might suck cause of its director. Its going to be directed by Samuel Bayer and all he has ever directed is music videos.
Michael Bay is not directing the Nightmare on Elm street remake he is only producing, just like he Friday the 13th and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remakes.
If your not a fan then why are you discussing the topic of remakes?Besides hot chicks getting killed IS what makes a slasher film. That concept has been around since the dracula films. And dont go around saying that jason isnt Iconic because if he wasnt why would they have made freddy v. jason?
I read that John Carpenter has not seen the remake of Halloween because he's friends with Rob Zombie and he doesn't wanna see the movie to ruin the friendship if its good or not.
i was like that myself but the more ive seen this guy the more im swaying thinkin he could play this role hes got the looks and from what ive seen of his acting he could be pretty chilling in the new movie!
13th, Nightmare on Elmstreet and My Bloody Valentine, our society really only does Re-makes, you know? There's never really and good originality (other than the really good Chris Nolan Batmans we love!) of films nowadays and only redo old stuff.
Well pretty much all american movies are one of three things. Remakes (wether it be true remakes or rip offs like disturbia), adaptations, or based on true stories.
STOP HORROR REMAKES!!!!!! PLEASE!!!! With the exception of Rob Zombies HALLOWEEN, all others are AWFUL!!!!! Friday the 13th, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Fog, The Omen,........all TERRIBLE!!!! Michael Bay, stick to action movies!!
NO TO Nightmare on Elm Street remake!!! DO NOT RUIN the name!!!!!!!!!
I remember a early rumor that it remake was going to be a prequel to the first Elm Street film and star Billy Bob Thornton as Freddy be4 he was "killed". I would find that better then a remake :P
it's funny, i'm one of the few people who REALLY liked the first half of rob zombie's halloween remake. i canunderstand why people didn't like it, but i thought it was a pretty good archievement in trying to explain michael meyers, and i think zombie has done it quite good and logical. the second half on the other hand was horrible. it was like "lets make the original movie, but this time, make it HARDCORE!". the second half really was what destroyed for me the pathos of the original movie.
From what I've heard I don't like it. It gives a reason to Michael being evil. Which shouldn't be done the whole point is that he just IS evil. It's not bad parenting or a chruch of school. He's just flat out evil.
On your comments about F13th, there wasn't big breasted woman getting chased and slashed, haha. They were all pretty small chested, lol. One of the things that I liked about the old Fridays is that the teenagers, not just the girls, were all normal average looking people. One thing that has me worried about this remake is that all the young kids look like sun set beach models from the o.c. But from the trailers it looks like they got Jason right.
What are your thoughts on croninberg remaking ''the fly'' again?

I wish they did get Robert Englund to play the new Freddy. It's just not right not having it be him.

@TheEmoAlucard Robert Englund rejected Michael Bay's Offer. Platnium Dunes wanted Robert but Robert didn't wanted to be part of it.

Its all about the cash dude !!!
dont even try to comprehend the logic behind it, because its strictly about money.
Its sad buts its true.
Like I tell eveyone who have problems with remakes, DONT WATCH IT IN THE CINEMA !!!
wait for it to be released on dvd and go rent it, or better yet go download it.
at least your money isnt being used .
