Next time, 'ave a few wee drams in ye, it compliments thee flavor of the haggis. And remember, the mair vile it looks, the mair vile it tastes, the mair we scotts enjoy it! Especially after just a few wee drams!
You'd be surprised on the different textures and tastes of haggis, it all depends on who makes them. The mushy ones are not great but the ones that have a more meaty texture are great, as long as theres not too much spice in them, it's just too overpowering.
A well made haggis is really nice and not really mushy at all. If it has a "mushy" texture has been over ground, or probably came out of a can. Very few canned products are great.
Meh, I like it. I only had it once, my mother didn't like it and I scarfed down two helpings. Great stuff. And to think, my mother is first generation Canadian. She grew up in a bloody scottish household.
That's a chip shop one. They're always mushy and it's not the best way to try it for the first time.
Some chippy haggis' are OK and they are more accessible but you'd really be better to try a more traditional one first time. Totally different. Less mushy and more tasty. :)
I tried Haggis for the first time in Edinburgh 4 years ago and really loved it! It's great both as a stand alone dish and as part of a four course meal. I really don't understand why it has a reputation as being "nasty" cause it's anything but that.
Depends where you get your haggis from, a lot of the store bought ones are just a lot of squidgy over spiced crap, better off getting a fresh one from a local butcher. I found a basic haggis recipe and just kept trying diffarent things with it till I got the taste and texture just right.

Haggis shouldn't be mushy! It has almost a similar texture to minemeat. Also, it's meant to be steamed. Not deep fried. Try again mate ;)
