I met Holyfield in Chicago about 17 years ago - before the Tyson fights. He was classy, and spoke MUCH better than he does now. He was a personal hero of mine, and it sorta breaks my heart to see him fighting now. He was arguably the best Cruiserweight of all time, and was a great HW champ. Now - he's fighting to pay a tax debt, and that is sad beyond words. Every loss he suffers now just tarnishes his legacy. Since losing to Lewis in '99, he is 11-6. Prior to that, he was 33-4.

i dont care how old evander is,he has every right to fight one of the klit bros.he looks better in the ring than he has in years,and hes a technically better boxer than nearly every 1 in the division.if he gets hurt in the ring hes a grwn man and that would be his decision.he would have to live with the consequences just like any of us have to live with the consequences of any decision that we make.i think he would do just fine against anybody he gets in the ring with.klits are overrated anyway

Holyfield is a great fighter of the past but damned! They must stop him! To go into the ring in that age is dull and should be forbidden. What would happen if Holyfield beats Wiliams and the WBC forces Vitali to fight him???? No boxing fans, promoters and the Klitschkos want's to see that a fighter like Holyfield ends his career as a cripple with parkinson. Klitschko would kill him!!! They said Tyson was supposed to kill/criple/retire Evander before their 1996 match. And they were serious about it. They meant it literally. They thought Evander was going to actually DIE in the ring that night! O'course we know what happened&of course that was 15yrs ago.. Im not THAT naive 2say that Evander can perform like 96. HOWEVER, he wont be afraid2fire back@the Klit's, as so many of their opponents are. And he has more skill than most of their opponents. And, he wont die!!

@playmayker88 of coure he wont die but even in 1996 Tyson wasn't 10 or 14 years younger as Holyfield like the Klitschkos are. Holyfield is 48! He's an icon of that sport and I give him credit that he's still able to beat guys like Botha. But against an elite HW (We only have two at the moment) he gets blown off in that age. I'm sure both would brutaly KO Holyfield.

he could have fought Evander 2 different times before he went to jail.. they were signed and ready to fight.. both times Mike withdrew due to "injuries". Mike knew the gig was up if he had to fight a real fighter like Holyfield. You can run but you cant hide. The gig was up in 96. In a very dominating way.

He was asked by a reporter about Holyfield and Mike said ".. he's a good fighter"...then asked if he thought Evander was ready for Mike Tyson (this was 1988).. Mike smiled and said ".. I dont know about that, but he's a good fighter."
Well Evander trained his whole career for Mike Tyson. Made the weight. Beat everyone else, and waited. Then beat Tyson, 2X

I think you people on here giving Holyfield a legitimate shot at a younger, world class opponent are just delusional. Have you seen some of the guys Holyfield has lost to in recent years? I mean, they dug Botha up from the dead to give Evander an opponent he could handle. This isn't world class match making here. And to call this belt they "gave" Holyfield a world title is just a farce. I love the guy, but enough's enough. And how does THIS KO compare to Tyson's when so many years have passed?

Given the fact that he stand 12 rounds against the so called heavyweight Champion Nikolei Valuev ( and in my mind he deserved the title at that fight)
it would be far more interesting to watch him fighting a Klitschko than all the other
Klitschko Fights we saw within the last few years.
I admit he should better end his career, but he probably needs the money, and
still he deserves way more respect than the Klitschkos or Valuev or Chagaev.

That being said, Valuev was never even close to being in the same class as any version of Evander Holyfield. The Klitschkos ARE in that class of fighter. Are they as good as a prime Holyfield? No. But fact remains Evander is a mere shell of what he once was and for no reason what so ever should Evander EVER be allowed to fight either of them.

But at some point fighters like Evander need protection from themselves. What good would it ever do for Evander to receive one of those slow, boring, methodical beat downs the Klitschkos deal out? That's the kind of punishment an older guy like Evander shouldn't be absorbing. Those long jabs and occasional hard straight rights. I don't want to see him hurt

look closely...looked to me like holyfield hit him with the side of his glove.....but a much deserved win...everyone who seen him fight valuev knew he got jobbed.....he does have the stamina to go 12 hard rounds even at his age..and can still fight well inside..so with that i give him a slight chance to win against either klitchko....but not much....maybe a fight with hopkins or adamek would be better for him....

I hope Holyfield does not embarass himself by taking on a young top contender. He can still pakc a punch but he is much slower now and I doubt he would be able to keep up with a younger high class fighter.

yes, personally, Holyfield may be able to Rock haye, but honestly I would pick haye to win this fight. Haye is younger, faster, and he hits harder. But, Holyfield has a better chin, and has more experience.
If they were to go Toe to toe, instead of haye battling from the outside, then I think Holyfield may be able to score a knock down against Haye..
