You need to make him reappear at almost the same time that he disappears. Where is he for those few seconds between the jump? Unless you're Nightcrawler, you can't just disappear from existence.

Hmmm, this is cool. I've never tried using displacement map before. Looks pretty cool. Displacement map would seem like a better choice than splitting the layer and putting it back together. Brilliant idea. Very efficient and faster to edit!
