It clearly looks like Lagat didnt give it his all. He knew Centro is american..oregon based and a young gun. He knew the win would have more meaning over just another kenyan transfer winning. Look at him...centro is straining and grimacing on the kick and lagat just seems to coast it in. After all Lagat has 1500m medals to show for it...he knew he had nothing to prove
@mamowolde eh, possibly. Lagat has very, very efficient form. The best runners never look tired, even when they are flat out sprint. Hes probably just more efficient than Centro at this point in their careers, thus him looking more relaxed.
I understand that rounds can play a roll in planning a strategy for a champion style race but beyond that, this type of pussy-footin' around really pisses me off. That is not what middle-distance and distance runners are supposed to do. We are trained to step to the line each and every time planning to run until our legs fill with acid, our lungs burn begging for oxygen, and our eyes fog over. This sport needs distance runners to push themselves; not ones that pretend to be sprinters.
You guys are idiots. Lagat is peaking for August and ran rounds and a 5000m the night before, and he still kicked everyone's ass but one. Lagat is still one of the best 1500m runners in the world, and he's training for the 5000m. Just because he's not a 3:26 guy any more doesn't mean he's done.
holy shit wheating didn't make the team!!!!!!! :( :( :( A week ago, everyone would've picked him for the win. He was the favorite. He was probably the USA distance runner most favored to do well at the WC's in August. Btw way to go centrowitz. You looked very relaxed until the very end of the race. Beat Lagat!
@xxxDAPROBLEMxxx Actually I'm quite sure that Wheating did make the team. I believe Lagat had opted out of running the 1500 at the World Championships to focus on the 5000.

What a slow ass race. A 2:11 at the 800! High school kids can do that.

And a silver medal in the 5000 for Lagat. Looks like the naysayers spoke too soon.

never leave a 1500m race down to a 200m sprint.. centrowitz always slays his last 400m in a slow race.

That's what happens when the pace isn't kept "honest".
If he wanted to go he should have tried to push it a little
