Kovacs was like a cross of the Mad Hatter and Chesshire Cat. Funny but almost scary! The man was a genius. Just imagine him in about 1979 hosting Saturday night live. Or writing and performing on laugh in.
I never heard of Esquivel, but have been a big Kovacs fan since I was a kid. When I saw this the first time, I said "I got to get that record" but could never find out what it was. Years later, Esquivel made a comeback and I finally found out who did this music & the office furniture video & have been hooked as a fan ever since. I think this & Blvd. Of Broken Dreams with its great piano work are his best. For Ernie, I love everything he ever did. I play some piano & can only wish
Ernie had a BIG record collection- he often got his inspiration for most of the "pantomiome" sketches in his 1961 specials by merely listening to several choice cuts; the '61 "operation" sketch, for example, was inspired by a 1957 recording of Stravinsky's "Firebird Suite", issued on a small "record club label"....
The word genuis is so abused today, but Juan Garcia Esquivel honestly deserves the accolade. He was a true musical futurist,a brilliant arranger who made the most incredible music this side of saturn! I only wish he would have made more records in his unique "sonorama" sound.
Does anyone have any clips of his appearance on Johnny Carson?
By the way, thats Alvino Rey on steel guitar! They were supposed to make a movie of Esquiels life, but nothing ever came to fruition.
didnt he use the song Cozy Cole - Big Noise From Winnetka

And Peter Gabriel was considered avant garde in the 1980's! All this needs is Björk singing.

Its interesting to here the added musical bridges Esquivel worked into the banana scene, etc, specifically for this skit.
If you listen to his infinity in sound album
you can hear how it originally sounds.
Esquivel & Kovac's = genius.
they both had very unusual styles.
If only Ernie hadnt traded his car for Edies corvair that fateful raining night...one could only imagine the future shows he might have made!

Esquivel arranged the music, but he certainly did not compose it!

that a lot of juice from one orange!
how did they get the drip on the faucet to go upwards?
I wish they didn't tape over most of Ernie's shows. Thank goodness for Edie saving some of them.
