  • theese two are from the citadel . just before going to breen you can see them below . they are solid, proofed with noclip

    nobody knows if there will be an episode three or half life 3. It's all speculation. All anybody knows is that they ARE going to continue with half life, nobody knows how though.

    These were in Half Life 2 Beta or HL2 E3 and got rejected by the bugs and the use of it. They said they might bring it back but didn't know where to put it or use it in the game so for the chapter follow freeman they replaced the mortar synth with the machine combine mortar and if they did add the synths it would probably do no good. And as Stanguner said it was used as a decor for the citadel when gordon was trapped in the pod on the way to breens office.Spoiler Alert!

  • I can understand why they didn't use the flying one in hl2, it doesn't really look right when you compare to the other alein-robots such as the hunter or advisor. But the walking one looks like the combine were experimenting with making an antlion synth- I wan't that one in ep 3! Make it happen valve!

  • The mortar was in hl2 I saw it while niclipin around the citidal parts of map for idea's for my maps

  • Maybe there's gonna be these on Half Life episode 3 against the player, because these are in HL2 but you just can't fight against them because they are in the citadel while Gordon is inside some metallic thing

    Valve has said numerous times that HL2 has an episode trilogy. If you are stupid, it means Ep1, Ep, and Ep3.

  • You need to examin more.. at the end of the game (Cant remember if it was in the actual HL2 or in EP2) they cross across a bridge when your in a pod... a hint that they're obviously gonna be in EP3... Unused models my ass

  • Synths are synthetic (gettit?) creatures created by the combine. Examples: striders, hunters, gunships, dropships, and those two.

  • The 2nd one IS in the game, you just never get to fight it. You see it on a track as you're being delivered to Breen's Office.

  • the 1st synth is in the game too its just on a diffrent track than the 2nd one ;P

  • how knows, Valve might use crab synths because striders were used if there were buildings or trees, and since ep3 could take place in the artic and there is nothing in the artic maybe the crabs could be used.

  • Actually they were meant to be fought the moarter synth (first) used to fire some sort of lasor and crab synth was supposed to be an antlion guard with a chaingun

  • It's gonna be EP3, since the EPs are a broken-down HL3, and as for whether we'll fight them, we won't. The crab synth was replaced with the Antlion Guard, but never removed altogether, you can sort of fight it ingame on the beta. As the the Mortar Synth, they haven't done anything with that, so we may see the clawscanners having a laser and that'll be the replacement for the Mortar Synth.

  • Valve didn't forget to remove them they simply just didn't use them in the game it's cheeper and takes less time just to keep them in but not use them

  • VALVe made them but they are low A.I., too bad they look so good :(

  • The only AI they have got is NPC_Generic it's a place holder for NPC's with actual AI.

  • Actually, as of the Orange Box update, it's now called actor_generic while ingame, but that's only an AI holder anyway, it isn't a placeholder for animations.

  • I think the crab synth is an antlion guard mixed with combine technology. i don't know im only guessing :)

  • most people say that it had some relations to the antlion (It was the original antlion, its the original antlion guard) but really it's just one of the species that the combine captured and enslaved.

  • sorry. PS: the 2nd synth is called "crabsynth". And its purpose is being an organic/living tank. Cooler than the APC. Yes, it looks like a headcrab, but also like the big purple electro alien in OF, and the Antlion guard. The Mortar synth, on the other hand, is meant to be a flying synth, much like the gunship + dropship. However, it can throw things with its jaw, like a catapult, and fire a plasma ray from its belly, just like the gunship + Xen mantas can.

  • HOLD EVERYTHING! You DO see these creatures in HL2, during your 2nd pod ride in the Citadel. Just before 4 gunships take off, watch the maze of catwalks closely: They are actually conveyor belts, with both of the "Crab" and "Mortar" synths on them. AKA, what these are! ;)

  • 2nd 1 was on the end of the citadel they were moving in a group of 3 or something like that, maybe they'll make use of it otherwise it was a nice way to show people there were coming more enemies. But because you destroyed the citadel it wont.

  • They were supposed to be Tanks for the Combine but only used in full scale wars.

  • there is, alpha and beta can be very similar, just search hl2 beta on youtube, theres many gameplay videos of it

  • If it wasn't for the leak we wouldn't have those models removed.

  • valve removed these models long before the leak. nothing was cut dew to it being leaked, if you read Raising the Bar, or just talk to valve yourself you'd realise that, they just wanted to make more money in the end, and the person who leaked it was tbh a genius or else NONE OF THE MAPS, models animations would have seen the light of day, don't be so ignorant

  • yes maybe valve forgot to delete the animations oh and by the way in the final stage noclip to the advisor get a crowbar and attack him he will display the same animations

    thats why they made more animations

    there are alot more animations on models that aren't being used and I don't mind they give new developers more advantage :)
