I've noticed that Tom's songs quite often dwell on the spiritual side of life. It seems as though he knows that Jesus is really nearby and watching us all, but he doesn't want to believe it because that might cause him to give up his present way of life. Most people are simply afraid to let go. I guess Tom is, too. He's a great songwriter and singer.

Do a little research on the album Blood Money. Its based on a rendition of Woyzeck, an unfinished german play with very dark themes. Tom is a story teller, which means he does not always sing from his own beliefs or experiences. Just because he assumed the role of a pessimistic character for a song, or album for that matter, does not mean that he shares those beliefs with that character. Cheers!

The German translation is rather mistaken. It is more powerful this way, but maybe he thought it was too straightforward to release something so naked and pure. He usually sings about religion with irony, but this one sounds sincere, doesn't it?
