  • RED ALERT! RED ALERT! Phasers on kill!

  • 85 viewers are obviously Klingons

  • I do enjoy watching him make an embrassing fool out of himself.

  • 1966 was a good year

  • That redefines the word 'bad' - it's as if he inserted a suppository laced with LSD just before he went on camera.

  • Khaaan!

  • Dammit Jim, What the hells the matter with you!

  • Jewish ? Hmmmmmm, bummer.

  • scotty beam him up plz and hurry!!!

  • That's real music finnally

  • I just shat myself watching this.

  • ...

  • Mr. Art Form

  • set the phasers to kill what a twat

  • This is some really strange shit. Who was this Mike Douglas bloke? Love the Shatner genius. When I was 17... oh hell why bother; I was likely grounded.

  • Brian McGee :d

  • 80 people were upset there was no Goodyear Blimp.

  • Shatner is a genius he managed to find the only non-gap in the music market – that of the talked song! Few could have been so bold, so anti-heroic & yet emerged so loved! The world will miss this cotton-toss, pointless, corseted, pint-sized, 'Colossus'...

  • wwo tht was really sad hey dude get off the stage

  • It's like watching someone do a bad impersonation of Shatner... It's a good thing he has no shame.

  • Oh, Bill, do shut the hell up. This isn't even remotely interesting. It may, however, be a little creepy and embarrassing. Frank OWNS this. Everyone else in the world back off.

  • no one can sing this song well other than the original artist which is Frank Sinatra. damn William Shattner You Suck just stick to acting. Hell your not even sinning. damn this is just terrible. no drama and no passion damn william stop making fun of a legend

  • he should run for president , know that hes 80

  • he should run for president

  • @ronyboy40 he should run

  • This is trippy to me

  • Bill Shatner know's he is a complete crap singer but he is very entertaining and that's all that matters. If he makes people smile and laugh that's all that matters.......why do some take things so seriously.

  • @dieoffright Because, in music, the Chairman said so. And no one questions Frank.

  • hes just sooo.... fucking high man

  • @MrNicholasmt I think you're right. The dude is high as a kite. Also notice his tight start trek style top.

  • This is a mockery of a Sinatra classic. Shame.

  • what a dope! you gotta love him

  • gatopfuelsaver

  • Another classic shat out

  • what a gem. classic shatner.

  • at 2:14 the polite audience cant take it anymore and they bust out giggling a little, it's great.

  • I love this man, Star Trek the series, all the movies, but he must have taken Spocks LDS - this is absolutely pathetic!!!!

  • I can't stop laughing. I love the way he keeps knowingly nodding, winking & smiling to the camera and himself in general. I don't think SInatra would have had much to worry about............

  • WAS THIS A JOKE? HAD TO BE

  • What I find remarkable about Shatner and his musical performances is that he acts them out rather than singing them, 'When I was 17...' He puts himself into the frame of mind of a teen all innocent and soft spoken, 'When I was 21...' He's all cock-sure and smug, chasing the girls, 'When I was 35...' He's mature and confident and finally ending with him 'And now the days are short...' Old and wise and taking time to enjoy life. I love his style!

  • I love Shatner for this and just about anything he's ever done. Whether you love him or hate him you can't deny it: he is William Shatner and nobody can ever take that away from him.

  • @devikwolf you are devikwolf and nothing can take that away from you

  • hi FN larious. I had seen it.Thanks for the reminder...I know...is he really serious!?? HA!

  • Shatner proves he is a intergallactic stud, again.

  • I like the bizarre mouth movements at the beginning and the spread arm thing he does at the 3 minute mark.

  • This is making all my wildest dreams come true.

  • I think his reason for doing this was A. he could practice acting B, he enjoyed it C. thought it ould be profitable some day. Or all of the above

  • 0:44 What popped!?

  • Man this is awesome! God bless you, Bill!!

  • The Shat! "Nuff said.

  • He had the audience in is hand. Great performance. Full of self-mockery.

  • my vote is he was high

  • Love. It.

  • I just knew he was going to say, "When i was 17 I got hit to hard in the head and never recovered...When i was 21 a cop used a slap jack on my head and I'm still hallucinating..."

    He's still ripped...

  • How dare you people knock Shatner? The man is an amazing talent. Singing, acting... Is there anything this man cannot do? Gold. Absolute gold.

    -Joe E Dangerously

  • Also available for Weddings and Birthday Parties! Just make a booking through Crappy Talent Enterprise

  • Was it really worth it William?Stick to the day job!

  • When i was 17 I bought some very good beer. It was some very good beer I purchased with a fake ID. My name was Brian McGee. I stayed up listening to Queen. When i was 17.

  • @jimeh123 Ahaha, fantastic

  • one day I am going to sing this and film it so be ready...

  • I was expecting Spock, Scotty, Bones and Uhura with the rest of the Enterprise crew to come charging out with their phasers set to kill.

  • Why is it whenever I do this song in this style at karaoke, nobody gets it?

  • my god how emabarrasing this load of old shite

  • @secretsquiril Look up the word satire.

  • Oh well I don't know... I rather liked this. I must say, however, that I do find myself confused with some of his other renditions of popular songs/poems. Nonetheless, I'm not opposed.

  • When I was 17... it was a very bad year for singing

  • Wow...there are so many things wrong with this that it is so right. Move over Tom Jones.

  • He still does the thing with his voice, even when he fake sings.

  • Gotta love his chutzpah and earnestness, and somehow in another galaxy kind of way it works., which my repeated viewing will attest to.

  • Madness .. and I did not even know he can do as well interpertieren songs .. class .. The man is a really great example of people singing with the heart and acting and everything .. but also to give everything for the fans .. Thanks

  • Although he 'talks' the song, there is still some considerable skill and timing on his part to 'make it work'. So he should at least be applauded for this performance even if the whole set up is a little shakey.

  • Ok… they fired the captain of the carrier Enterprise for a video he did. What about this Capt of the Enterprise and this video. If I was him I would have at least used this as part of my defense.

  • Dosent this make him the true first rapper? I mean he has no musical talent and talks, Holla Jay -Z

  • @heambols don't be like that...i don't like jay z either but he has more musical talent than this bozo. there are a million brilliant musicians we will never know cause we are all watching schmucks like this guy. he has no rhythm, and he just does songs everyone knows already. this is only good for a joke for about 2 minutes

  • @sulfurousstench . And he has proven to you that he has more musical talent then Capt. Kirk, when? He is a very smart business man, i will absolutly give him that, but musically talented, dont make me laugh. Ive herd beter mellodies in a mens room and because he ca rhyme only means he passed 3rd grade, it soent make him Bill Shakespere. Put him in the spken word catagory, not music because that would be insulting to people who can actually singand PLAY music, not talkers.

  • I love Star Trek and William Shatner is near godly...but these lil musical rants make me wanna punch him dead center in the esophagus!

  • I love how smarmy he gets when he sings "When I was twenty-one..." Awesome.

  • Love ♥ love ♥ love ♥ TOTALLY LOVE ♥

  • whoo hoo, the "original" gangsta vanilla ice cream! is that a ellie mae's rope holding up his trousers?

  • It was a very bad song!

  • A part of me wants to watch. But it burns.....

  • I was browsing in a bookstore one day and found Shatner's autobiography on a remainder pile. I opened it and read his description of how deeply frustrated he was in the late 60s and 70s by his inability to get lead roles in feature films.

This clip demonstrates well why he never made the leap. If this is what he was like in auditions, he must have left producers and directors amazed that he had any kind of acting career at all.

  • Holy shit. I cannot stop laughing at him.... He does not look serious but I cannot think he is otherwise.

  • How has this been sitting on the internet for an entire four years without my knowing? I feel like my life is more complete now.

  • The Klingons always thought he sang just fine....

  • This performance moved me to tears...

  • It. Was. A very bad. Three minutes. And forty-six. Seconds.

  • Someone's stoned. And I like it :)

  • I take my hat off to this man, there is no one else who could have carried this off the way he does, it is a great performance. I bet he put a smile on everybody's face who has viewed this clip.........and sure is'int that the whole point of being ENTERTAINED.

He's a legend for doing this.......a pure bloody legend...............well done sir.

  • ace

  • The greatest performance of all time!!!

    Sophia Greene, Montreal Quebec

  • As hammy as this is, at least he went about it with a little dignity...unlike Leonard Nemoy's Bilbo Baggins song...

  • why is he so epic

  • He is so good, I was laughing from just his facial expressions before he even started into the song.

  • I don't know what he's been smoking.. but I might just want some.

  • Good change overs to male stages of life. Shatner brings it!

  • Bill Shatner, brilliant Shatner...

  • A most moving & disturbing rendition of the Sinatra classic!

  • I say this alot, but its the Truth, Only Shatner Can Speak a song and make it sound perfect!

  • this is funny as helllllll ... OMG !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • omg, he is so stoned!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @punkrockefeller HE DO LOOK HIGH as a muthfkn KITE

  • Anyone else think he reminds you of Jack Black here?

  • The poetic soliloquy treatment doesn't work for Frank's tunes because the lyrics are larger than life and weren't meant to be spoken. The sad part is that Shatner has a certain charisma and if he actually tried to sing, it might have made him into more of a serious performer and less of a joke.

  • Funny, when I I first heard Shatner "singing" during the 70's I was of course much younger and used to hate it like crazy. I thought he was such a fool and so full of himself to even try such a thing. Now, after so many years I'm much older I finally got it. I think it's great! But Shatner is STILL full of himself regardless!

  • i love BIll Shatner!

  • There is something authentic and brave in this. I think this is good and he connects with the story in the lyrics with charm and intelligence. Most people just see this as corny and strange. But, if you were taking an acting class and the assignment was to act out the lyrics to a song as a monologue, this would be a very good example of what is possible. Bravo William.

  • oh heavens. this is awk.

  • his face just makes me want to punch it

  • He should try singing.

  • @asprun I think he's one of those rare people who WANT to make music but realizes he can't really sing. So instead of singing and sucking, he speaks and rocks.

  • @CreepyCave

    Angels weep when Shatner croons......

  • @CreepyCave He's not "one of those..." anything. He's Shatner, the one and ONLY!!

  • @CreepyCave Crap. He sucks, he just gets away with it because TV was shite in general back then and he's fairly hot.

  • @asprun Somewhat sadly, I might suppose, I think that this is about next to the furthest extent of him trying to sing something (anything), as you may have already come to notice on about all of the other tracks (covers AND originals) on which he has his vocals recorded.

I'm not sure I've ever heard anyone else on this planet who doesn't have understandable mental, physical, or physchological issues try (so hard?) and still naturally not be able to sign at all whatsoever like Bill Shatner.

  • Spock Bones Scotty (huge pause) wheres my crew LMFAO

    You gotta love Bill

  • I just love 0:55 ahhaa.

  • the shat

  • I have read all of his books and it is clear that he is one arrogant guy, so full of himself and his own self importance... however, he is still the man. Shatner Rocks, when he commanded the starship enterprise no f**ker questioned his orders, unlike piccard.... shatner is a true star... period!!!!!

  • Comedy too smart for the time.... probably even felt a bit sacrilegious then! Shatner is a born comedian - Denny Craig (perfect); the new "#$#@ My Dad Says"....horrendous. Move it cable where it can be true to the real "#$#@ My Dad Says" and for God's sake: LOSE THE LAUGH TRACK!!!.

  • that was well done, clever even.

  • Next to Ed Sullivan, the funniest man dead or alive.

  • UHHGGGHGHH!!! Well at least this helped speed along the 70's to a close.

  • This is ridiculous beyond belief! I love that he had the arrogance to do this. Makes me feel better about any embarrassing thing I may have ever done.

  • Nobody destroys a song like the Captain! Bravo!

  • "When...

    ...I was 17."

  • this makes sinatra look like justin bieber...jokes

  • One giant ego, you go Bill!!

  • 's hero is the Shatner. Full stop.

  • Frank should come back and kick the living shit out of this tom foolery

  • wow.......... is this serious or was he settling a bet? this was a verry good year for me ive never laughed so hard!!!!!!ha ha vintage wine a verry good year.

  • @Q2SEEDSMAN it may have been a gverry good year for the wine but it left a bad taste in my mouth!

  • What an ego

  • He really makes you realize how stupid this song is.

  • he found a way

  • haha, so wonderful he actually sounds more like a episode from TOS here =P

  • 67 people didn't have a very good year.

  • ACTING!

  • this is so lovely. how did i not know about this before??

he just makes me want to smile and giggle and melt into the floor all at the same time...

  • beam him up scotty

  • I totally and completely agree with you, gompth1966. He's made very specific choices on each character he's playing, and the audience seems to be hanging on every word of his performance. Whereas other Shatner song performances can be seen as over-the-top and campy, I don't think this one is at all. He does a great job.

  • @shirtandtiewilldo Hi my name is William Kirk and I have a YouTube video to Michael Jackson don't stop till you get enough ....It is really cool its one of the best videos you will ever see that is a tribute to Micheal Jackson......All you need to do is type "William Kirk - dont stop till you get enough" and I promise you that you will be entertained!!! So send me some request and that I may reach my potential dream and entertain you and show you much love... ;-)smilezzz 4 U MJ

  • Wow, it' actually HIM singing... well sorta singing..

  • holy christ... what the hell is this?? Who let him make this mockery of the legendary Frank Sinatra??

  • @LukeValentino This is what Shatner does. You either like it or not. It's not mockery at all. It's his interpretation of the song.

  • @ronnysoeberg agreed. there does seem to be a very sharp dichotomy between people who like his performances, and those who don't. there isn't much of a middle ground with him, it seems.

  • @LukeValentino Bob Shane recorded it before Sinatra. Sinatra, as well as a dozen other artists, have covered it since.

At least Shatner took it and used it the way he knows how: by acting it out as a performance piece. It's a nice variation of it and works surprisingly well this way.

  • I frikkin' love my Billy Boy!!!

  • I actually love this performance. Does this make me insane?

  • I actually watched this again everybody. I like it even less now. I'm a Shatner fan. I love the dude. I even think he's a fellow Jew, but I don't however, like his singing talking style.

  • @Loejyrrab Me neither

  • The nice thing about opinions is they are free, everyone can have one, and no taxes are due. I am not a Sinatra fan, and while I am a Shatner fan, I can only take him in doses. But I like this.

  • Love it. . . or. . hate it!.

MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS, MR. SPOCK. I'M SICK OF YOUR HALF-BREED INTERFERENCE, DO YOU HEAR??

  • I want to see Stewie Griffin do this one.

  • He looks like he's having a hard time not laughing.

  • Great to see Captain Kirk stating things, er, Frankly.

  • I just love how Mr. William Shatner is so dramatic!

  • Oh, that face! What horrible mugging.

  • all hail the shat

  • That smirk. If I actually knew him, I'm sure I'd hate him ... and yet, on screen, he's irresistible.

  • How can you not fall in love with this man?

  • Captain on the bridge

  • @LuthienofDoriath, space-pun ftw.

  • geeks

  • I Live and breathe William Shatner this video is a breath of fresh air!

  • my god I aged 50 listening to to this.....

  • william shatner is the stuff of legend.

  • words cant describe how bad this actually is...
