  • how big is the lens cap?

  • it would be funny if he would use the camera strap

  • It cost more than my house - or home (i dont know)

  • The end of it is bigger than their heads... and bigger than that boat in the background... :D

  • These lenses are good for spying on people. I Think main buyers are CIA, FBI, etc.

  • they actually took a bouey out of the ocean and glued a camera to it

  • LOL I thought he was gonna shoot down the copter!

  • Unbelievable

  • Impressive

  • never even new there was such a lens i thought the 15000pound 800mm was the biggest

  • this lens costs over £3000 to rent for a week ! lol

  • looks veryy expensive...

  • Can You Manual Focus?

  • @stand455 you can try bec the focus ring is near the end of the lens opposite of the camera body lol

  • 5200mm Canon Lens World's MOST powerful Super telephoto

  • WOW!

  • @maffewh1 That's a stupid reason. The reason you couldn't be selective is because you'd have to reload the film, not to mention buy more, now there's no reason for that. That was a limitation of old photography, and this photogunning method is actually useful. Just because you didn't have it back in the days doesn't mean it's bad, it's actually good. Oh and for the record, you can learn how the camera functions and adjust everything fine with digital cameras, despite losing a few things.

  • was there last week, how sick is that. Greetings from Germany.

  • That thing is amazing.

  • I was luck enough to have my hands on one of these monsters last week, probably the only time I'll get that opportunity.

  • I got a 400mm 2.8 with a 2x converter and a DX body , gives me 1200mm F5.6 ........without the massive weight and size.

  • @pedalman Imagine have this 1200mm on a dx body. you will have a 1800mm. ;)

  • check out the website. It's still there for sale. not surprising as it's $120,000

  • You cant even reach to manual focus with that thing!

  • $120,000

  • is that price tag correct $120,000 ?

  • Hey, nice to see people from B&H (my favorite camera shop) and the-digital-picture (my favorite lens review site) :)

  • @maffewh1 With a 1200mm lens it would take a 1 mph wind to make your photos blurry. Even if it is a slight blur. Shooting "machine gunner," as you say, style is useful to make sure you have at least 1 good shot.

To give you an idea the "average user" can't take a 400mm lens and shoot slower then 1/160. Now go to 1200 and it gets much worse.

  • I thought he was going to shoot the helicopter down lol. That thing looks like a bazooka.

  • @JOMO19921993 1 month ago? You must be some kind of a fortune teller!

  • @JOMO19921993 Now you know it's called Canon.

  • well i guess its only 1Ds series so its not that fast.

dont forget that those fast cameras are made for sports photographers who NEED that fast cameras to not miss THE moment when a football player gets tackled.

but i understand your concern, when a friend and i go out for a shooting. i bring my 5D II and he brings his analog Contax MF camera. you can see the different, i make like 50-100shots every time. and he does like 4-5shots

i simply delete the shots i dislike and shoot again.

  • 受注生産、9800000Yen

  • Paul Hogan @ normal <300 mm lenses:

    "Why that's not a lens... - There's a lens!"

  • Telescope you can attach a camera to! =)

  • LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLL!!!!

  • no usm motor on a telescope! =)

  • If popping out a DSLR with a 100mm lens gets you that "terrorist" look from people, imagine what using this gets you . . . :D

  • I need one of these.

I wont need to go to the gym to work out after a photo shoot!

  • nikon just got OWNED with that monster!!

  • Those pictures look amazing. That is epic. I would buy the hell out of that lens if I had money for it.

  • If this bring to airport, TSA think is nuclear missile lol.

  • Can it use as macro?

  • Ofc but you have to be 46 feet or 14 meters away from the target to focus :)

  • Who needs a telescope when you can have one that takes pictures.

  • Privacy destruction tool... :-)

  • This ist Huge!!!

  • Paparazzi extrem lens... :-)

  • Now, if we are thinking in APS-C size Canon DSLR, this will equal to 38.4x zoom since entry and mid-level Canon DSLR have so called magnification ratio of 1.6x compared to full frame DSLRs. But if you look at it, cropping an image is not really equivalent to magnification. You're simply narrowing the viewing angle. All in all, I'd say that this lens is about 28x zoom, becasue it's a lens covring 24/36mm frame, and in that format, the focal lenght corresponding to human eye is about 43mm

  • 1200mm lens are equivalent to how may times zoom? like 20x, 30x ???

  • It depens how you look at it. 50mm focal length is usually considered a normal lens on a 35mm film camera (or a full-frame DSLR with 24/36mm sensor). Normal focal length means, that it is approxiamately zero magnification, which is the way humay eye sees things. (A human eye supposedly has 43mm focal lenght). So 50mm is close to human eye focal length. In that case 1200mm will be 24x zoom, becasue 1200 divided by 50 is 24.

  • It depends on the camera you are using. He has a full-frame 5d from the looks of it, so that makes it 34x.

    On a subframe camera like a 450d, it's 54x.

  • It is a prime...No zoom...

  • wonder how heavy...

  • he said how heavy it was

  • man. . i could buy 10 years of education at a quality school for this amt of money.

  • I was reading an article in a photography magazine about a guy who laughed hard at another guy who bought this lens. However, the lens paid for itself after only three shooting assignments. I think once you're a pro photographer of highest calliber, this lens would actually pay you a lot of money, instead of you paying for the lens. But there are only few photographers in the world who get that kind of photographic assignments. So, the first guy stopped laughing after he heard that.

  • does that thing cost like 25k?

  • More like 120K (used).

  • This thing cost $200K back in 1984 when it was new, and it was shipped back to Canon to be refitted at their own expense- there were only three original lenses made.

  • At $120,000 I think most will and can do without. Nobody really *needs* this...

  • and the lens hood? how big? lol !! great lens!

  • its bloody aaawesome

  • I mean Dang..Id have Nasa Make me a Mockup Hubble Telescope with that Money then..shoot!!!!And make it Mountable with all the makes and models of digital SLRs, SLR,s and Micro 4/3's lol...I mean thats if i had that kinda money...

  • with this price i can buy best DSLR camera & best lenses & New car & i can keep som money for black days lolllll

  • wht is the tripod head used on that? And wht kind of tripod is that? Gitzo I would assume.

  • the tripod comes with the lens :)

  • the helicopter picture was incredible. that lens is amazing

  • On a 40D(1.6 x) with a 2.0 Teleconverter....

    *does the math*

    3840mm

    wow

  • and to think you can still add a 2.0x multiplier

    WOW-er

  • haha man that is even further away you can look

  • the camera cost as much as a used buick off the street

but the lens cost as much as the presidential limo

  • Amazing Lens, Its prime so the focusing will be lightning fast

  • I prefer to buy 2500 1000mm catadioptric lenses with this money, and resell all this lenses, and with the money, buy ... NIKON lenses and red epic cameras xD ^^

  • I've also used the Canon 5200mm F14 SLR lens - that's pretty impressive too..!!

  • It costs $120,000.00

    That's £72,952.80

I think I have that much in the bank.

  • give you $100 for it and all come pick it up

  • This is a pre order lens, canon only make one if you buy one.

  • I went to the website for the 1200mm Lens. Could not believe the price.

$120000 and another $1000 for shiping!

  • i Love this lense

  • Do not try to use this near an airport.

It looks like a portable surface-to-air heat seeking missle

  • Try to explain that one to the police. "Don't touch the lens! It's a CANON!"

  • lol

  • loooooool i hope they will not take it as a precaution!!!!! ;D

  • I wonder how far Canon;s biggest lens can take on...

  • the hubble telescope uses canon lenses

  • lol

  • PerkinElmer and Ball Aerospace. And it uses mirrors, not lenses. The precision required makes this Canon lens balk in comparison.
