@EcnelOvelam That too is bullsh!t...woman ONLY control some man and when the smart man know little woman is left controlling them. I deal with super smart man and NOTone woman pulls the strings. Keep dreaming...it is the idiots woman control to some point. If woman really ''controlled'' man we wouldn't have the wars that kill man, haha
@Justanopinion101 Haha, shut the fuck up... Women are way more mean and spiteful. A Man who doesn't like another Man will fight, and once the fight is over, the conflict is over. A Women who dislikes another women will continue a constant psychological war with there enemy, never forgetting the conflict. Put two Women as leaders of countries, compare them to Men, and you'l see the Women's conflict will be far more brutal and perpetual than a Mans war. Suck a dick you cunt.
@EcnelOvelam You know what, you are RIGHT...I must have seen tight tits and ass flashing past in my mind that blurred the truth....they are far more back-stabbing, aggressive, asinine and mean and never forget. @androkyle You are right. I lived in Africa and have been to the African American neighborhoods in the US and seen the parallels...poverty, over-breeding, obesity, stupidity, noise, violence and shit everywhere...even baboons are better organized!
@Justanopinion101 Noise? Who the fuck cares? If you hate them so much do what I do - let them live in there own squalor. Why get involved in the affairs of animals?
richard feynmann & her stem cells (from skin - it can/will be done) uploaded into a future embryonically grown AI programme - would be the most outrageous genie ever unleashed - arthur c clarke could be the holy(g)host.
i have never found a person so attractive in my 32 years of being blessed by amazing female influences - i am fascinated by sir ken robinson, ray kurzweil etc - but this video (and this discovery of Marilyn mach Vos Savant) has blown me away - i haven't read all the comments but i would agree he interrupts her humble beginnings of some potential sparks of wisdom... what a woman!
I got smarter after hearing this interview, cus the lady was so beautyfull, she made me more conscious, thereof more intellectual. I would have married her easily :)
@Gonzoidzz What should she have done that would make you less bitter? She didn't invent IQ tests and seems to have spent quite a large part of this interview trying to explain how motivation is far more important than that construct. Why do you demand she pay a price to society for her motivation or for her parents motivation to let her curiosity blossom?
Oh harold. I wish you would have said much less and just let this woman talk. Some of your questions were leading and it was like you tried to answer some of them yourself before you would let her speak only to find she has thought about it a little deeper than that. This woman has thought these things thru so deeply and effortlessly while others only scratch at the surface. This was probably her first an last interview. I could listen to her talk for hours.
I appreciate this interview despite the obvious grandstanding of the interviewer. Marilyn Mach Vos Savant is a much broader thinker than he. Though he is analytical, he display's what appears to me very contrived behaviors. He probably thinks this makes him appear to be unusually intelligent. I interpret him as unusually unusual. Marilyn remains composed and allows him to interrupt and attempt to grandstand her. She is very interesting, while he is strangely trying to appear more intelligent.
IQ is just how well you can memorize and see patterns. It does not mean you are knowledgeable on a large variety of topics, book smart, street smart or experienced. Knowing where to find the best info. is far more important than IQ. The internet allows people access to far more info./opinions and secrets than say encyclopedias in the 1960s.
Honestly, the host is clearly unwell, in some variety of ways. I do agree it's a poor poor performance, we should stop grilling him. He clearly couldn't have done it another way. Hopefully he hasn't seen this, it'll just make things worse for him.
MVS does very well at taming him, she has him on a leash, omg she is hot there..
Lol, this interviewer was under the misapprehension that viewers gave a shit about his babbling gibberish. She did so well not to burst out laughing at him. He seems terrified of her! Her neuroscience views suggest she read pop-science at the time (or Douglas Adams!). The information is 25 years old tho to be fair. She seems guileless in a strange way - I'm surprised she's being so polite with his interruptions. Perhaps it was just the culture at the time.
8:27 "We'd find a brain that is actually wired in a superior fashion....but this is not me its PROBABLY not you" LOL I liked her slight enunciation on "probably" when talking to him
That's bollocks that we use only 10/15% of our brains. Total bollocks, and I always thought it was bollocks too. How could the brain have evolved so well if we only used 15% of it? That is and always was a stupid notion. But she is still sound! I wonder what age she was there...?
How annoying for this man to continuously interrupt Marylin who I read every week, but have never heard. Unfortunately, this seems to be the only video in the internet with her, and it's too bad that such an intriguing celebrity is interviewed by a person with such bad conversational skills..
@hexyhunter Anyone can solve the solvable given that they invest enough time and thought into solving it. However, how quickly it takes one to solve something is what counts. The higher your IQ, the better your brain functions. How well your brain functions (how well you solve things, how well you memorize, find patterns and do large calculations) is what an IQ test tries to determine. No where on an IQ test does it ask trivia to determine intelligence, because anyone can be book smart.
@ToaoRaj Sort of. Some people are affected very negatively by pressure, some people react in a positive way; both skew results. Most IQ tests, and almost all the ones for high IQ societies, are not timed.
@hexyhunter But although anyone can be book smart and anyone can learn everything in the world that a human being could possibly know, you'll never have a genius IQ if your brain does not function on that particular level.
Although book smarts and a high IQ usually go hand in hand, you don't need a high IQ to be smart and being smart (learning random things, a college education etc) won't increase your IQ by much, if any at all.
@Left4ModernWarfare2 And as far as Einstein, of course he was smarter than this woman. He was probably one of the smartest people of the 20th century. But he was only as intelligent as his 160 IQ permitted. To be smart, all one has to do is study and read a lot, for the most part. However, your intelligence is gauged by your IQ and that alone. People with high IQ scores can learn quickly and solve puzzles and large calculations with relative ease. Doesn't mean they still can't be dumb though.
@Left4ModernWarfare2 If you can't do any of that then I doubt you could have an IQ of 151, assuming you've taken a real IQ test and not the fake online ones.
IQ is a very accurate measure of one's intelligence. You seem to think intelligence and smarts are synonymous. They aren't. 'Smart' connotes how much one knows. Intelligence is a persons CAPACITY to learn. How well your brain works/functions etc. Not how extensive your vocabulary is or how many degrees in this-or-that you've obtained.
@Patheios The word 'smart' is subjective. I'd call someone who knows a lot 'knowledgeable', but I do believe you have to have some sort of rudimentary intelligence to have the capacity to be knowledgeable.
@NiMur90 Well, that goes without saying. Though quantifying one's knowledge on their IQ only works consistently when comparing people with very low IQs to people with average/high IQs. Intelligence doesn't come with innate knowledge. To know a lot, you have to want to know a lot, for the most part. That's something that doesn't come with intelligence; a desire to learn. Which is why we see many nescient people with high IQs (they are comparatively less common, but they still occur).
Why do these "amazingly high IQ" people tend to be cranks? Is it because to become a crank, you need to acquire a belief in your own brilliance ungrounded in any real-world competence or achievements? Does knowledge of one's "high IQ" override knowledge of one's lack of expertise in any area? But only a *stupid* person could mislead themselves that way...
@AlephNeil What exactly do you disagree with? She's spot-on when she claims we're functioning below our (innate) intellectual capacity and when she claims compulsory education is stupefying. On that last point, she has an ally with Plato: "Bodily exercise, when compulsory, does no harm to the body; but knowledge which is acquired under compulsion obtains no hold on the mind."
@Left4ModernWarfare2 Yea, I'm familiar with Rainman. Here's a quote about Peek "but also social difficulties, possibly resulting from a developmental disability related to congenital brain abnormalities". He was only "smarter" in some things. OK, so you named 4 people with higher IQ's, once your in the 180+ range, there aren't many, which is my point. Your only 15, maybe you haven't yet discovered your "special" area of expertise? I bet you learn faster then most kids in your class/school.
@GN4SH3RPUNISH3R Riiiiight. You're talking top .00001%! Naw, nothing special there!?!?
It's not like millions of people have an IQ of 170, millions with 171, 172, 73, 74, 5, 6, & so on. 95% fall into the 70 to 130 range, with some lower, some higher, & very VERY few over 150. With her 180 IQ, there might be only a handful of people on the entire planet with a higher IQ than hers, while something like 6,500,000,000 have a lower IQ. 180 IS special! Probably like 4th or 5th highest.
Her IQ of 228 is a ratio IQ obtained during childhood. As an adult, and scaled as a deviation IQ with standard deviations = 16, her IQ is in the 180s. Still stratospheric, but not the highest ever.
She is one of the strongest individuals I have ever seen. Why does she not take a stake in the political arena or global consciousness. Her insight seems wasted by her lack of publicity.
@ClintSevilla Sadly, in that arena, her intelligence could seem intimidating, or even snobbish by many. In case you haven't noticed, people don't usually elect smart people to public office. G.W. Bush. Need I say more? Also, & you can look into this, many people with superior IQ's, seem to lack certain humanistic qualities, compassion, etc. It could be a trade off in the brain, the same way that certain Autistic people excel mentally in certain areas, but lack certain emotions. It's weird.
@Databamse You said divide it by half, but you meant divide it in half. Tater was just funnin with ya on account of the video's about the world's brainiest chick.
The world would become a better place overnight if everyone with an IQ under 130 was exterminated immediately. And this is coming from somebody with an average intelligence.
@replay0018 I'm thinking either androids, clones, or only killing 90% and making teh remaining 10% work in plastic cubicles chained to a computer until death.
Marilyn vos Savant has just been dumbed down by listening to the host.
...Seriously, the Host has no idea what he is talking about. He is just trying to bring every large word he heard during the fifth time of taking 10th grade.
she sounds like an idiot. talking about how many percents of the brain we are using is completely irrelevant. what we measure we use and what potential there may be are two different things. we can still measure the, more or less, what ability is present today. and just to not get lost too much in the relativism; iq set aside from other cognitive abilities is simply the ability a person has to process and understand patterns and information and putting it to use. that's all.
@mehridin she doesn't sound like an idiot at all; you either can't see/sense the intelligence of her, or you are just trying to make yourself feel better in an ignorant and counter-productive way... either way you are narrow minded to say the least
Chris Langan always makes sure he sounds smart. She is more natural imo. Anyway, she not only aced the LM, which tops out at around 230, nobody has scored higher than her 46 on the Mega on a first attempt. Those Hoeflin tests are abominably difficult even for the very brightest. In terms of IQ, i don't think you can beat this woman! Langan and Rick Rosner are around the same sort of level though.
Actually this woman is not that smart that everyone thought she were. The IQ-test she took as a supposed 10 year old for individuals that are 23 years old is wrong. She actually was 11 years and 4 months, while the actual test was an IQ-test for 15-year olds. Her real IQ is estimated to 132. She didn't know this by herself at the time, but this was discovered a while after this incident. The person that gave her the test, she couldn't remember the name of.
@RealSpZ Whilst her IQ is NOT 228, nor is it 132. Her test may have been applied incorrectly by the psychometrist, who was inexperienced. Still, she scored 46/48 on the Mega Test, and invented the Monty Hall problem where even professors of math couldn't see her logic.
@HadronHardon I'm always intrigued by some of the people who are attracted to documentaries such as these. It's often people training to be physicists, neurologists, philosophers, psychologists, high IQers', artists and generally interesting, intelligent people from all walks of life. You only need mention 'Marilyn vos Savant' and it's like a magnet for boffins. I guess only geeks like us enjoy witty Usernames such as yours. It did make me laugh.
Haha... I read ya's. Glad you got a kick out of it. Its people like us who can be just as intellectually involved, without having to compromise our sense of humor... Peace!-)
I don't understand why she is propogating the ridiculous ten percent myth. True, conscious thought is processed in the thin outer cortex, but every region of the brain is involved in other things; the large cerebellum coordinates motor movement, then there are the langauge areas and other regions. the 10 percent myth is ridiculous because it implies that our non-cortex regions are useless, when they are not.
The idea that everyone has a high IQ, but some are more aggressive, is one I suspect she doesn't believe. I've read her over the years and she has a pattern of courting popularity - not to an extent that's sniveling, to be sure. For ex., someone asked her if she would go to another planet if she had the chance, and she said, "no". Stop and think, "if I say, yes, then it's depressing and doesn't really help anyone...". She wants to get on folks' good side. She was trying here to get a tv gig.
@ion010101 People with high IQs get the same comfort believing they earned their intelligence that people with average and low IQs get believing they inherited it. But she's right that most people have a great but defeated capacity for intelligence. Consider how many people could run marathons but are instead overweight and exhausted by a trip up a flight of stairs. I'm not advocating anything, but a fascist and militaristic society could bring the masses to their potential.
@androkyle I think that's been tried. When I look at history, where I see people, on average, blooming the most was with the invention of America. It was opportunity, like the opportunity to get books from lending libraries. De Tocqueville talked about the early American farmer's literacy... Indeed, since the industrial revolution, we haven't been quite as free to bloom - we don't have the land of opportunity so much as we have the land of opportunity to take out a loan to get a college degree
@androkyle holy crap. boy, do you not know your history. A fascist militaristic society has never, ever worked. what we need is a world ruled by the ultra high IQ
@Androkyle said it best: Intelligence and IQ aren't different? And they don't differ in that the former is the parameter and the latter the extent of intellectual ability? (3:12) Intuition isn't an intellectual function? (5:07 and 6:08) Emotions don't impinge on intellectual functioning? And they probably shouldn't be dissociated from intelligence? (5:39) Potential intelligence isn't larger than actual intelligence? And we can't come closer to the potential under different circumstances? (7:06)
Wow... I have watched 8 minutes of this and EVERYTHING she says about intelligens is wrong. If she said those things today I would consider her stupid.
@azpandaman Yes... I know. I was born that year. I am not saying that she is stupid, just that a regular psychology student knows more about intelligent today, that she did back then.
@Jurijgud Intelligence and IQ aren't quite different? And they don't differ in that the former is the parameter and the latter the extent of intellectual ability? (3:12) Intuition isn't an intellectual function? (5:07 and 6:08) Emotions don't impinge on intellectual functioning? And they probably shouldn't be dissociated from intelligence? (5:39) Potential intelligence isn't larger than actual intelligence? And we can't come closer to the potential under different circumstances? (7:06)
@Jurijgud The brain is plastic. It can rewire and expand. Only our capacity for intelligence is inherited. The extent of our intelligence can grow, but not beyond our capacity. That's exactly what she said. She brought up the then-widely believed 10% brain use misconception not as a fact in itself but to corroborate her point about intellectual potential. Her point still stands. Instead of the potential sitting in unused brain space, it sits in a brain that's plastic.
@androkyle There is no prof whatsoever that you can expand your brain to your potential. No such theory exist, no study shows it. It may be true it may be false, but nothing shows it. You can compare it to God, there is no prof that he exist either.
You can read more about programs where they temporarily raised children's intelligence in Berk,2008. It was discovered that all the intelligence they had gained in the program, they would lose again. Intelligence=inherited.
11:54 "I think one of the problems is compulsory schooling in that children are sitting there and they are taught and told what to believe. They are passive from the very beginning. And one must be very very aggressive intellectually to have a high IQ." -Marilyn Mach Vos Savant
This has been flagged as spam show
why does she call her self intellectually aggressive when she's just adaptive and not productive, she is the proof that IQ is not related to intelligence but she's actually quite intelligent. The problem is that ppl thinks there can only be one truth but that is very false since life has no rules.

1MrVIewer 7 months ago

Messuring Intelligence (Capasity ???) because of some standartpatterns. Solable by anyone, given enought time. That just don't feels right.
hexyhunter 9 months ago
@hexyhunter Anyone can solve the solvable given that they invest enough time and thought into solving it. However, how quickly it takes one to solve something is what counts. The higher your IQ, the better your brain functions. How well your brain functions (how well you solve things, how well you memorize, find patterns and do large calculations) is what an IQ test tries to determine. No where on an IQ test does it ask trivia to determine intelligence, because anyone can be book smart.
ToaoRaj 9 months ago
@ToaoRaj Sort of. Some people are affected very negatively by pressure, some people react in a positive way; both skew results. Most IQ tests, and almost all the ones for high IQ societies, are not timed.
JohnnieNaked 9 months ago

Patheios 10 months ago
@Left4ModernWarfare2 If you can't do any of that then I doubt you could have an IQ of 151, assuming you've taken a real IQ test and not the fake online ones.
IQ is a very accurate measure of one's intelligence. You seem to think intelligence and smarts are synonymous. They aren't. 'Smart' connotes how much one knows. Intelligence is a persons CAPACITY to learn. How well your brain works/functions etc. Not how extensive your vocabulary is or how many degrees in this-or-that you've obtained.
Patheios 10 months ago
@Patheios The word 'smart' is subjective. I'd call someone who knows a lot 'knowledgeable', but I do believe you have to have some sort of rudimentary intelligence to have the capacity to be knowledgeable.
NiMur90 9 months ago
@NiMur90 Well, that goes without saying. Though quantifying one's knowledge on their IQ only works consistently when comparing people with very low IQs to people with average/high IQs. Intelligence doesn't come with innate knowledge. To know a lot, you have to want to know a lot, for the most part. That's something that doesn't come with intelligence; a desire to learn. Which is why we see many nescient people with high IQs (they are comparatively less common, but they still occur).
Patheios 8 months ago
I'm so diappointed - she's a crank!
AlephNeil 10 months ago
@AlephNeil What exactly do you disagree with? She's spot-on when she claims we're functioning below our (innate) intellectual capacity and when she claims compulsory education is stupefying. On that last point, she has an ally with Plato: "Bodily exercise, when compulsory, does no harm to the body; but knowledge which is acquired under compulsion obtains no hold on the mind."
androkyle 9 months ago
@Left4ModernWarfare2 Yea, I'm familiar with Rainman. Here's a quote about Peek "but also social difficulties, possibly resulting from a developmental disability related to congenital brain abnormalities". He was only "smarter" in some things. OK, so you named 4 people with higher IQ's, once your in the 180+ range, there aren't many, which is my point. Your only 15, maybe you haven't yet discovered your "special" area of expertise? I bet you learn faster then most kids in your class/school.
gjc82071 10 months ago
@GN4SH3RPUNISH3R Riiiiight. You're talking top .00001%! Naw, nothing special there!?!?
It's not like millions of people have an IQ of 170, millions with 171, 172, 73, 74, 5, 6, & so on. 95% fall into the 70 to 130 range, with some lower, some higher, & very VERY few over 150. With her 180 IQ, there might be only a handful of people on the entire planet with a higher IQ than hers, while something like 6,500,000,000 have a lower IQ. 180 IS special! she sounds like an idiot. talking about how many percents of the brain we are using is completely irrelevant. what we measure we use and what potential there may be are two different things. we can still measure the, more or less, what ability is present today. and just to not get lost too much in the relativism; iq set aside from other cognitive abilities is simply the ability a person has to process and understand patterns and information and putting it to use. that's all.

AlsatianCousin 1 year ago
The idea that everyone has a high IQ, but some are more aggressive, is one I suspect she doesn't believe. I've read her over the years and she has a pattern of courting popularity - not to an extent that's sniveling, to be sure. For ex., someone asked her if she would go to another planet if she had the chance, and she said, "no". Stop and think, "if I say, yes, then it's depressing and doesn't really help anyone...". She wants to get on folks' good side. She was trying here to get a tv gig.
ion010101 1 year ago
@ion010101 People with high IQs get the same comfort believing they earned their intelligence that people with average and low IQs get believing they inherited it. But she's right that most people have a great but defeated capacity for intelligence. Consider how many people could run marathons but are instead overweight and exhausted by a trip up a flight of stairs. I'm not advocating anything, but a fascist and militaristic society could bring the masses to their potential.
androkyle 1 year ago
@androkyle I think that's been tried. When I look at history, where I see people, on average, blooming the most was with the invention of America. It was opportunity, like the opportunity to get books from lending libraries. De Tocqueville talked about the early American farmer's literacy... Indeed, since the industrial revolution, we haven't been quite as free to bloom - we don't have the land of opportunity so much as we have the land of opportunity to take out a loan to get a college degree

@androkyle We don't just use 10% of our brain, we use it all. Intelligens is inherited, not learned. And that is just 2 of the wrong things she said.
Jurijgud 1 year ago
@Jurijgud The brain is plastic. It can rewire and expand. Only our capacity for intelligence is inherited. The extent of our intelligence can grow, but not beyond our capacity. That's exactly what she said. She brought up the then-widely believed 10% brain use misconception not as a fact in itself but to corroborate her point about intellectual potential. Her point still stands. Instead of the potential sitting in unused brain space, it sits in a brain that's plastic.
androkyle 1 year ago
@androkyle There is no prof whatsoever that you can expand your brain to your potential. No such theory exist, no study shows it. It may be true it may be false, but nothing shows it. You can compare it to God, there is no prof that he exist either.
You can read more about programs where they temporarily raised children's intelligence in Berk,2008. It was discovered that all the intelligence they had gained in the program, they would lose again. Intelligence=inherited.
