Phantom is my favourite ever musical - I grew up with it and so it feels rather like it's in my blood!! :-) I really like this song, although I think it is fair to say I have heard better renditions of it. Saying that, I like the vunerability in Anne's voice. I like the merge of WIW and Phantom in this video - it almost feels like this song could have been slotted easily into Phantom, with one or two changes to the lyrics.
First of all it's Emmy, not Emily. Secondly I disagree. I rank both Anne & Emmy in the same catagory as far as acting skills and singing ability. I also think they're both attractive on a similar level. I think they are very talented in general & are far superior when compared to the average tacky pop-star. However I don't think neither are anywhere near the all-time great list when it comes to singing or acting. I could name many performers who could wipe the floor with them in many aspects.

For a real opera singer listen to Rene Flemming or Anna Netrebko. But Anne still does a lovely job with this enchanting song. Her voice is clear and enthralling. I also can't wait to see what she does with the "Judy Garland biography" project. I'm sure she'll great!

The only reason she didn't get the part was because the role was significantly reduced and Tim Burton figured it would be better to give the role to an unknown.

This is a beautiful song, very much in the spirit of "Phantom". The Andrew Lloyd Webber connection doesn't hurt. Anne's version is the best, but she's still not Christine Daaé. I love Anne Hathaway as an actress, but Emmy Rossum just INHABITED Christine. For good and bad, that's the role she's gonna be remembered for. She IS Christine Daaé.

Emmy did a great job, especially for her age. I'm not sure if Anne could of pulled it off. Anne is a great singer and I would of loved to see her in Phantom. IDK which I perfer.
What's even worse is that Anne couldn't play Christine because of... the Princess Diaries sequel! Which had so much less potential than the Phantom movie.

Emmy did a great job as Christine and I love her voice. And yet I wish Anne didn't have that scheduling conflict with Princess Diaries 2 because IMHO this would have been a better part to play in advancing her career. Not that she's doing badly...she was awesome in Becoming Jane. I just love Anne voice & would have loved to hear her sing more. I think she'd be great in a broadway musical. Hopefully she'll get offered another musical role.

I actually agree that Anne is better suited to Romantic Comedy than anything else. I thought she seemed forged in Brokeback Mountain, and Nicholas Nicholby. From what I've heard she was rather miscast in Becoming Jane. But she worked well in The Devil Wears Prade, The Princess Diaries etc.
I agree Anne has been doing well in comedies, what I tried to say was she is also capable of acting in "serious" roles. Very complex emotions, subtle facial expressions and acting -- can't be a little bit too much or too little, etc, she did better than some Oscar winners.

She actually auditioned for this movie and she got the part over Emmy Rossum. But, the filming conflicted over one of her other movies that she had already signed the contracts to. I can't remember which movie it was, but... O hwell.

She should have been in this. She would be a lot better than Emmy Rossum. I was quite disappointed with the casting in general when they came out with this movie. The greatest musical ever and they couldn't even get a decent cast.

yes although they are shwing fottage from the phantom of the opera, this song is from one of Andrew Lloyd Webber's other musicals, "The Woman in White", they probably used this song because it matches whats going on in the story. this song is not from Phantom so you can all stop saying "Its good but its not christine" because its not from this production.

Anne was actually a shoo-in to play Christine, but Princess Diaries 2 was filming at the same time so she had to give it up, and the role went to Emmy.

This is a beautiful song, very much in the spirit of "Phantom". The Andrew Lloyd Webber connection doesn't hurt. Anne's version is the best, but she's still not Christine Daaé. I love Anne Hathaway as an actress, but Emmy Rossum just INHABITED Christine. For good and bad, that's the role she's gonna be remembered for. She IS Christine Daaé.

anyway yea I've read about hathaway's aspirations to broadway, but I don't think she can do a show that requires heavy lung-work. Just saw her in Becoming Jane -- charming. She should stick to the screens and away from the stage :)

Emmy Rossum looks just as doll like, if not more so, than Anne Hathaway. I would certainly have preferred her as Christine rather than Emmy Rossum (though I doubt she has the range, but then again, Emmy didn't either and it didn't stop Schumacher)

Emmy did a great job as Christine and I love her voice. And yet I wish Anne didn't have that scheduling conflict with Princess Diaries 2 because IMHO this would have been a better part to play in advancing her career. Not that she's doing badly...she was awesome in Becoming Jane. I just love Anne voice & would have loved to hear her sing more. I think she'd be great in a broadway musical. Hopefully she'll get offered another musical role.

Anyway, this whole Emmy vs. Anne thing is ridicules. Personally, I like them both and find them both to be talented, beautiful actresses so I really don't see the reason to fight over who's better. They both have lovely voices.

I'm still deeply in love with this song and Anne's voice. I think she should play Christine on stage, and though Emmy's voice is beautiful, perhaps they are equal. They're both gorgeous. I'm not sure who's I prefer, but both are amazing. Wonderful job, Anne. Wonderful. I would buy her CD.

Don't get me wrong, she has a lovely voice, but I think she mentioned in an interview or something that she couldn't hit the notes, even if they lowered it. Some people just can't hit those notes. Most can't, you know?

Movie Havoc.Its like this movie playing inside this really cheap,seedy theater that you bought tickets for because you didn't know any better(hey anyway,its anne hathaway,what could go wrong?)when you went inside,there were like only 3 people watching it because it was such a lame role she played.then you realize its anne hathaway from this cute little princess that little girls look up to in disney films,then suddenly she turns into a S LUT one day.still think she's a good princess?

"Anne is a great for a role in a comedy movie, but not so much for a "serious" role." Why? Check out her acting in Brokeback Mountain (and compare with the screen play what kind of subtle actings she needs to achieve, especially the scene she answers the phone), and see if she is for a serious role or not...

I actually agree that Anne is better suited to Romantic Comedy than anything else. I thought she seemed forged in Brokeback Mountain, and Nicholas Nicholby. From what I've heard she was rather miscast in Becoming Jane. But she worked well in The Devil Wears Prade, The Princess Diaries etc.

I agree Anne has been doing well in comedies, what I tried to say was she is also capable of acting in "serious" roles. Very complex emotions, subtle facial expressions and acting -- can't be a little bit too much or too little, etc, she did better than some Oscar winners.

I disagree. I find her miscast in Nicholas Nicholby and Brokeback Mountain. Maybe I'll change my mind after seeing her in some other dramas but at the moment I think she's very much more of a comedic actress

Emmy's voice is actually quite a lot deeper than Anne's, they are both soprano but Anne seems a little more sure on the high notes.
