  • I MISS THOSE SOOOOO MUCH!!!! I was 6 when they got rid of that scheme!

  • And ironically, those P40-series and P32-series locomotives are the only diesels Amtrak uses now!

  • They dont use P40's right now. They are being restored. Havent used them in years. They use P42's.

  • They will be when they return from being overhauled.

  • @kmothersil 2 already are #823 and #831

  • cool old video.

  • MasCoRailbuff did you take a Picture of this video on the first day of 2009

  • No way, man! This was shot back in the mid 1990's.

  • @northvilledavis8 If these paint schemes and consists were still around, I'd be in HEAVEN!! :)

  • MasCoRailbuff is this Train Westbound or Eastbound?

  • It's #3, westbound.

  • does bnsf and amtrak still operate the raton pass.

  • Amtrak has a station stop at Raton.

  • does the bnsf still operate trains across raton pass???????

  • After I spent time googling this I find that BNSF retains freight easement rights in the purchase agreement with the State of New Mexico. New Mexico DOT purchased the sub for commuter service and began running their trains last year between ALB and SF. So BNSF may run trains through there on an occasional basis but most of the traffic goes through Clovis now.

  • thanks. wow the raton line sure has changed.

  • Nice vid thanks for posting

  • Ha, nice oldy.

  • During this time The Southwest Chief ran with 4-8 MHCs in the front, the baggage car and 9-11 Superliners. Plus 2 or 3 P42DCs,P40DCs,Dash 8-32BWH, and F40PHs. They didn't run four engines until late 1998 to early 1999. Note P42DCs started delivery around early 1996.

  • How many passenger cars were on the train that your rode on. Around 1996 there would be 9-11 passenger cars including the baggage car on the Southwest Chief.

  • Say, what is dis, a test or sumthin'? Your estimate is probably correct, although those details have left my memory banks. The same three locomotives remained through to LA, if that says anything of the train's payload. I may have some photos from the Albuquerque stop, if I find those I might have an accurate answer for you.

  • Nope it isn't, but I think, now I'm not sure, but the second P40DC road number maybe 812 or 802 and I know I am positive with those two answers.

  • Do you the departure of the train?

  • The train left with me on it, there's a posting of arrival in LA going up at this moment.

  • Oh, one more thing there are six MHCs not 9-10 in the front.

  • This video by the way is classic and cool at the same time.
