  • hahaha 3:37, crystal lake is still the same today.CLC class of 2010

  • LOL Zayre I just can't live without it... They'd never be able to get away with that these days, they'd get kicked out in minutes.

  • OMG! This was so much fun to watch... (Tthat's sort of sad, isn't it? =\ )

It was funny to see all these stores in my home town of Crystal Lake, Illinois! The only one that's still open & in the same location is the K-Mart...

I also enjoyed the hair, clothes. shoes.... Oh, styles of the 1980's, please please never come back! LOL.

    Thx for posting this. =]

  • @UAskygal As bad as those styles were I think some of the styles of today are worse, like those skinny jeans people wear lol

  • What a riot at 1:05 is that Russ Dunn?

  • 1987 I was in the NAVY on a submarine and under the ocean when this was orig made I sure miss those older days love zayre store back home in Louisville KY .

  • 4:36

  • 1987- I was 16, so I suppose I was just as annoying as you guys were in the video. How fun to look back on stuff like that. I grew up in Glen Ellyn, we hit a lot of malls back in the day, but I don't think we ever went there.. Thanks for sharing. :)

  • i was 8 or 9 years old depending on what month this was filmed

  • People were layed-back, cool and friendly back then, today you'll get greeted by mean-spirited, paranoid, suspicious, easily offended, scared sheep.

  • Great memories of zayre thanks for posting.

  • It's interesting how they continually use the world "filming".

  • This is 1 of the awesomest bids onutube! I wish everybody had made videos like this in the 80's .

  • Brings back memories. I was 16 at the time. Hard to believe it is all gone now. Remember when you could actually smoke a cigarette inside the mall? And always in the snack bar that most stores had as well. Thanks for sharing.

  • no one listen to that pig shit background ghetto music in 1987. you added that scat from something recently made.

  • @The096757 Wrong!

  • What a neat video! Thanks for posting this. I'd love to be in the 80s again!!!!

  • @scorpioeddie84

Somebody build a goddamn time machine!

  • @ atomofish,

LOL, that would be awesome! I'd probably break it from using it sooo much!!

  • THE MACHINE!

  • You should have played some '80s music for this video, not the anachronistic crap here!

  • @pannoni1 Actually that "anachronistic crap" was state of the art 1980's music.

  • good to see chicagoans were just as cold as ever back then. so it's not just my imagination.

  • I used to go to zayre dept store and jewel osco with my mom and my two aunts when I was 2 years old, there's a lot good stuff but I wonder where that store went?

  • @Superdave3426 I used to work at Zayre. The Zayre divison was sold to Ames who closed them or changed them to Ames stores in 89.

  • Good, cool video, POOR song selection!

  • this is a very cool video

  • I used to work at Zayre in HS. In Lyons, IL. Harlem and Pershing Rd. I also worked at Jewel... right across the sreet. Fun times.

  • ouch.... I meant STREET.

  • I miss Crystal Point Mall! I remember when it was being built (circa 1975), and I remember it's demise (circa 1998). It has been said the new owners in the 1990's let it die so it could be turned into big box stores, well now they are failing! I'd like to see this little mall come back..

  • THE MACHINE

  • Where was this Crystal Point Mall--in what state?

I worked at two Zayre's stores--at the snack bar and in the hardware department at Zayre's in Waltham, Mass.; then in hardware at the store in Hadley, Mass., while I attended the University of Massachusetts/Amherst. This was between 1977-80.

I also recall the Zayre's jingle when I was a kid, used in radio & TV ads for the "Back To School" sales: "Before you go back to school, go to Zayre/You can learn the ABC's of savings there."

  • That is Crystal Lake, Illinois. I went to all these places! I was hoping to see myself at Crystal Point Mall! I was 20 in 1987....

  • wow, if only there was a mall here today....

  • :23 does this remind anyone of Pine Hills in Back To The Future?

  • Man, this takes me back....

    *sniff*

  • Fantastic, Zayre was the only store we went to pretty much in the 80s. Growing up in Maine there wasn't much else. Thanks for posting.

  • Rad stuff Mike.

What was the record store right next to Spiess named? Was that Orange records? I worked at Spiess for a while, too, like in 89 or so....man the Crystal Point Mall. Token Tuesday!

  • Thank God you didn't hit the hot dog stand...I was probably sporting my hotdog apron!!! Man I loved that mall...hated that job...all the tough guys from the Machine would make fun of me...assholes!!!

  • Yes, 1987 means I was 10 or 11, but the 80's are filled with great memories. Loved seeing the guy try out the skateboard and enjoy it - 1987 is justly the year I first heard of skateboards and I surely would've liked to have gotten one then! At least I'm enjoying one right now. Even though no one smoked in the video (making it even more lovable as I hate smoke), it's still totally 80's!

  • omg i so remember those eateries!!!!!

  • Man i miss the 80's!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Loved it! Hey, there was some pretty hot chicks in K-Mart!! ^_^

  • Ha, loved it. People don't even flinch when they see a recording camera anymore.

  • Yeah, but nowadays you bring a camera in a store like K-Mart and they'll kick you out in two seconds

  • @BuckyOHare Cellphones?

  • WOW~!! THIS WAS SOOOOOO FREAKING AWESOME!! I love the 80's. I was probably only like 10 years old when you made this video, but, I remember the 80's like it was yesterday. I miss the jelly shoes, why weren't there any the shoe section???!! This is now my favorite video on youtube! GREAT JOB!

  • oh man, if you got some more videos of old time crystal lake, please post em and let me know. im big into local history

  • Stay tuned. More to come. Nothing much older than this. But around this time.

  • great video!! it would be so hard to get away with this today!
