OMG! This was so much fun to watch... (Tthat's sort of sad, isn't it? =\ )
It was funny to see all these stores in my home town of Crystal Lake, Illinois! The only one that's still open & in the same location is the K-Mart...
I also enjoyed the hair, clothes. shoes.... Oh, styles of the 1980's, please please never come back! LOL.
1987 I was in the NAVY on a submarine and under the ocean when this was orig made I sure miss those older days love zayre store back home in Louisville KY .
1987- I was 16, so I suppose I was just as annoying as you guys were in the video. How fun to look back on stuff like that. I grew up in Glen Ellyn, we hit a lot of malls back in the day, but I don't think we ever went there.. Thanks for sharing. :)
Brings back memories. I was 16 at the time. Hard to believe it is all gone now. Remember when you could actually smoke a cigarette inside the mall? And always in the snack bar that most stores had as well. Thanks for sharing.
I used to go to zayre dept store and jewel osco with my mom and my two aunts when I was 2 years old, there's a lot good stuff but I wonder where that store went?
I miss Crystal Point Mall! I remember when it was being built (circa 1975), and I remember it's demise (circa 1998). It has been said the new owners in the 1990's let it die so it could be turned into big box stores, well now they are failing! I'd like to see this little mall come back..
I worked at two Zayre's stores--at the snack bar and in the hardware department at Zayre's in Waltham, Mass.; then in hardware at the store in Hadley, Mass., while I attended the University of Massachusetts/Amherst. This was between 1977-80.
I also recall the Zayre's jingle when I was a kid, used in radio & TV ads for the "Back To School" sales: "Before you go back to school, go to Zayre/You can learn the ABC's of savings there."
What was the record store right next to Spiess named? Was that Orange records? I worked at Spiess for a while, too, like in 89 or so....man the Crystal Point Mall. Token Tuesday!
Thank God you didn't hit the hot dog stand...I was probably sporting my hotdog apron!!! Man I loved that mall...hated that job...all the tough guys from the Machine would make fun of me...assholes!!!
Yes, 1987 means I was 10 or 11, but the 80's are filled with great memories. Loved seeing the guy try out the skateboard and enjoy it - 1987 is justly the year I first heard of skateboards and I surely would've liked to have gotten one then! At least I'm enjoying one right now. Even though no one smoked in the video (making it even more lovable as I hate smoke), it's still totally 80's!
WOW~!! THIS WAS SOOOOOO FREAKING AWESOME!! I love the 80's. I was probably only like 10 years old when you made this video, but, I remember the 80's like it was yesterday. I miss the jelly shoes, why weren't there any the shoe section???!! This is now my favorite video on youtube! GREAT JOB!

People were layed-back, cool and friendly back then, today you'll get greeted by mean-spirited, paranoid, suspicious, easily offended, scared sheep.

It's interesting how they continually use the world "filming".

You should have played some '80s music for this video, not the anachronistic crap here!
pannoni1 2 years ago 2
@pannoni1 Actually that "anachronistic crap" was state of the art 1980's music.

@Superdave3426 I used to work at Zayre. The Zayre divison was sold to Ames who closed them or changed them to Ames stores in 89.
