this song was playn on the intercom at my work and it sparked a memory, like damn where have i heard this song and this voice...so when a song featuring this voice was played on the radio i listened carefully to the vocalist they mention and tried to hold on until i got home to type it into youtube and hope that i would get lucky...thank god i found this song...LOVE THIS SONG!!!
This song is great. It's funny, I'm doing a search on this song and was browsing at Michael McDonald's profile. Today's his birthday, what a coincidence. Happy 60th Birthday, Mike!!! 8 people don't believe in sweet freedom.
What is the name of this movie? I remember, I saw it when a kid...I remember I used to sing on my very poor english this song...From nowhere I was on youtube now and decided to look fo this song...What a wonderful creation is this internet... :-)
@xgal2 I think he died from cancer. Dont remember actually. I found out he died when i looked at a magazine in an airport on my way to florida. It was ashame. He was a great tap dancer. Yes he was brilliant in the movie TAP.
I remember being at a 4th of July fireworks display back in the 90s and some guy was blasting this song out of his car. LOL! Still like this song tho.
gosh I wish today's world would be a lot like the way it was back in the 80s, people then seemed happy and joyful unlike today where people are lacking love, respect and appreciation towards others and people seem very angry and depressed in this day and age.
while the song is great (and the movie one of my all time favorites, and a star maker), it does miss the dialogue of the movie that made it work. Shows lots of action (like a good trailer, or Miami vice video should) but it does miss something.
The first time I heard this, it was like 2002 and I was 6. I think I learned all of the 80's hits just by going to the store as a kid! This brings back really Good times...
This is when our lives didnt feel so controlled and freedom was as real as walking outside and deciding what you wanted to do next. NOW?...The media telling you that this recession is never going to be over because all of our fathers taught their children that in order to get ahead in life you have to work your life away, GEE THANKS DAD for making this generation a SLAVE to Corporate America where Christmas is just another day of the month and you HAVE TO WORK ON CHRISTMAS! Thumbs up for truth!
Music then and music now is like two different worlds, back then top musicians/songwriters and performers ruled the airwaves, these days it's Planet Garbagearth & The Amateurs.
It's funny that in hindsight the music in the 80's wasn't that bad afterall...I hated it at the time but next to music in the 21st century, this is really good (never thought I'd ever say that about this song or that decade)
Ohhhh the most beautiful memories....smalltown UK guy visiting LA for the 1st time & biking to my job on the Wilshire bolulevard sidewalk as a box boy from Westwood to Westward Ho in Brentwood. Sweet Freedom blasting out on my headset & taking in the So Cal life....I wish they all could be Califirnia girls lol :)))))
Hearing this song is like a TimeWarp to me back to the 80's; great music was composed and great feeling to it also; not like nowadays unfortunately :-(
classic, its kinda weird to see people in their 20s appreciate this song as us older ones do.Anyway I love this song it brings back so many memories times have changed so much,( sigh ) its nice to get this little slice of the past every now and then
This is a very nice song, the chords are really tasty and jazzy. .....I see the way people dressed in the eighties, and it makes me long for it. People looked...uh, normal.
the eighties is no doubt one of the best decades America seen man ,I mean I was born in 77 and when I take long road trips the 80's music just what I have to listen to!!!
I was 10 yrs old when i heard this & have been a fan ever since.I'm a black man & this mans music just cant be touched by the ills of race, his music was played in our house,in our nieghborhood along with every other soul singer.Either with Doobie Bros. or not, when u got SOUL it just comes out.Which is Y after all this time he hasn't lost it at all!...OH & RUNNIN SCARED is 1 of my fav buddy cop films LOL,GREGORY & BILLY WERE GREAT:)
omg i been jammin micheal mcdonald since the doobie bros and he still looks good....i lov the end of this video gregory hines(r.i.p) ...and billy crystal is silly
These were really good times,, i remember blackmailing my older brother in going along to watch this,,,he and his friends would be skipping school at lunchtime to go watch flicks like this..lol.
As near perfect as a tune could possibly get. A timeless classic sung with such great passion and feeling and a wonderful haunting melody that leaves you in magical place. The Maccsters voice is just a gift from the Lord Almighty himself.
Michael McDonald at his sexiest! Those gorgeous blue eyes, long grey hair, dark beard, and Hawaiian shirt- such a luscious combination! I'd love to go back to 1986 and be on an island with that hot guy!!!
This video just nails what the eighties were like. Youngsters harp on saying "yeah yeah yeah what ever old timer". Well how come eighties tunes are still pumping out daily on radio stations? Answer that one you little shits!
@lordofthemanor67 You are so right about the 80s, the music was just brillaint with many, many fntastic bands and singers. Your last comment as well thats what exactly they are little S*** and spoilt ones at that who stamp there feet when they can't get what they want.
Great Music and that is what Youtuube is all about.
@mrhomerbojangles Yeah you're right, I am not THAT old, I'm in my mid 20s and I cannot believe the attitude of kids today they think can be rude to anyone regardless of who they are. It sickens me when I grew up my friends and I always respected people older than us. I am a 70s music lover, some 80s I like too but I don't like today's music,. it is like the generation. Spoilt, shallow and rude.
@lordofthemanor67 I wasn't born until 1987, but i LOVE 80's music. I'm sad that I didn't get to live the 80's. Today's music cannot compare to 80's music!
I miss the eighties even though I was a gradeschooler. People knew how to have fun and weren't up tight like now. People today are always stressed and checking their credit score and updating their status on their Iphone every five minutes, and waiting for coporations to tell them what's cool to listen to.
