A somewhat milder variant of an English traditional (Jack Hall) who was hanged at Tyburn in 1707. In the 1840s the song was rewritten and performed on stage by music hall singer C.W. Ross who changed the title. The Irish Descendants recorded it on three albums: Misty Morning Shore in 1991; So Far So Good: The Best Of The Irish Descendants in 1999; and We Are The Irish Descendants in 2004.
