This song summed up so well those of us who were young at the time felt about our country. We were the patriots and the flag wavers then , like so many today, were actively subverting and betraying true American values.
I prefer their live stuff over the studio version. That live album they put out is still one of my favorite live albums. It's funny how things have gone full circle though. The very things that the left protested about in this song are what they are all about today, and they managed to bankrupt in the process.Must make em' proud
@troutmask1970 This song is more appropriate today . The monster is an fantastic song that has potent political lyrics but the music is great and heavy. Great Timeless work!!
@foutupourfoutu..way to go and stand up for yourself. i hate it when people try and turn classic music and video clips into some personal political statement.
Wow!! One of the absolute greatest songs of the sixties and so unsung, This song is almost prophetic in today's world. Get us out of Afghanistan, get us out of Iraq (yes there are still troops there regardless of the spin) and let us deal with the problems at home. infowars, com
Typical movie makers/ censorship ... sucks ... I've hated ridiculous censorship all my life ... was in conscription 1971 ... friends died in Viet Nam ... the whole thing!
This song sums up my entry into the real world! Had just left school, can you imagine what it was like for us ...
I saw them live, around 1970. They performed this tune. Hearing this live version, reminded me of how good they were live. Great band, with some timeless tunes!
Why did you cut the second verse short? Hang your head in shame! By eliminating that one line, you have belittled the tragedy that befell the Native American people at the hands of our ancestors. To forget is to invite disaster to strike again.

@Kevinulla Again, I didn't cut anything. That's how the movie was made, I've nothing to do with it and to be honest I would never cut a song like Monster in the middle, and I certainly don't want to belittle the Native American genocide, furthermore I'm not even American, I'm French, and for god's sake, I'm eighteen!
@foutupourfoutu Yeah I know, just agreeing it's a shame ... the movie leaves about 3 mins of the song (including a couple of verses). We are lucky they put it into the movie at all! It would be good to find the original "takes" and re-master from them ... I'm glad we can at least watch this much. I've been trying for over 30 years to see this ... couldn't find anything, like it was wiped from Australian media within 2 weeks of the release ...
America where are you now? 2012

Notice that Goldy, Jerry, and George are much better than the current band?
