you really get the tone this song is known for, which is a more difficult matter than just using the same gear. I'm not a semi-hollow fan or a Vox fan but the sound Buck was able to get out of that combo is really one of the great tones in rock music.
@helikestv Peter used a Les Paul and a Marshall for the studio version of the One I Love. His own words from Guitar World, 1996: "I’d gotten a Les Paul and a Marshall amp and I cranked it up to 11." I actually have a video of me talking about Peter's use of the LP.
@helikestv Not really; it sounds very LPish. So does Finest Worksong. You'll notice most of the album is only slightly distorted, yet Finest Worksong and The One I Love feature full on distortion. Rics don't do high gain very well; I once set my house alarm off from all the feedback.
Finally a guitarist that plays this properly, like with the riffs and slides between the Em and D on the intro. Great playing, I will be cracking off my Stratocaster to learn this tomorrow! Thanks :)
Hi...does this amp have a headphone jack? I really like this and i am thinking of buying one ...but i so play guitar late at night and i need to know if i can play this baby with headphones on...:)
That was actually really good. Drums could have been a bit more powerful and I believe you forgot the tom roll at the very end, but still really good!
I like the maple guitar, mahogany bass combination, I don't know if you do requests, but my favorite R.E.M. song is that "don't let the sky fall on me" song, mabye it's exact name is fall on me? But great playing, and rickenbackes are famous for their trebly sound, that is why all the adds say "rickenbackers with their treble punch!!!
No, he still has his original Ric. It's stored somewhere for safe keeping, and he plays copies of it on stage. The One I Love solo was recorded with a Les Paul.
My theory is that he had it for recording with the band... Demos on the road, you know. I mean, I was told personally by the guy who made Peter his Ric copies (for tour), that Peter keeps the original locked up because it's so valuable.
@BucksStudent He has it in his house in Seattle. Vaulted. Best way tell if it is the original, he has a sticker on it like a mudflap girl. Supposedly, or so I heard, there is a small tiger sticker on the edge of the bottom half.
Before you sell that Les Paul, try one of these for lead as the scale makes bending the strings a lot more difficult than the old gibson. Why not keep it and buy a Rik too!!

DAMN IT! U RUINED A PERFECTLY GOOD BASS! NEVER USE A THUNDERBIRD WITH A PICK! ITS PLAIN WRONG! u guys are good though keep it up.....except the pick and the thunderbird
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
dude, if you knew anything about the thunderbird you would know it was designed for heavier rock, the reverse body thunderbird anyway, and they tend NOT to use picks, but, i do feel like a dick for what isaid so yeh
in most heavy rock bands the bassists pick, there are a few exceptions so don't make a list on heavy rock bassist who play fingerstyle. also, who wants to know shit about a substandard bass with poor fret access, neck dive problems and a retarded shape? you answer that
Great job! I swear I think there's a D note missing in the E minor root chord in the verse part. On the 2nd measure of each return to the E minor chord on the verse he alternates the B open string to a D on the 3rd fret, just for the 2nd measure of the E minor chord. That's the part I remember from the original; I could be wrong.
I Love Rickenbackers so much. The probably is that I just don't have the right hands to play them because of the necks. Johnny Marr even told me that "you've got to have the right hands to play a Ricky".
great job, are there any decent manufacturers who make good Rickenbacker copies? I heard Ibanez used to make one but I can't find anything, I would love a real Ric but i just don't have 2 grand to spend at the moment :)
if you can get hold of one, try the Indie IRK 500 (i think it an english guitar). I've got one it's pretty cool. the headstock is slightly different and it's got the 'pretzel' bridge to avoid copyright.
yep, they sound pretty much the same. i just ordered a 330 actually. the only difference is the more contoured body on the 360 and the fancier binding (i like the sharper shape of the 330 though).

Great playing but way too jangly and too much treble for me. I can't stand too much treble in anything.

Too jangly? That's what Rickenbackers do!
RockabillyMike5120 3 years ago
I meant Rickenbacker + AC30 is too jangly. If it was through a twin reverb it would of been a lot thicker.
