Why does everyone associate FLCL with metaphors of puberty? Obviously gainax just needed something to burn off the emotional scars of NEONGENESISEVANGELION
I dont know if anyone noticed this yet, but if you try to act like your life was in an amine, its much more exctiting, like not cosplaying, but making your life into its own anime, act like your in a anime. ITS UBER FUN. plus it makes things interesting.
@Orlandor100 Amarao- "A special agent of the Bureau of Interstellar Immigration. He apparently has some past with Haruko and claims to know who or what she really is. Amarao's childhood also seems to mirror Naota's. Amarao wears fake eyebrows made of nori to keep Haruko from using his head as a portal." Straight from Wikipedia :)
@Orlandor100 Figures :/ What doesn't make sense? Naota's head is being used as a portal and Amarao doesn't want the same to happen to him, so he wears fake eyebrows made of Nori (a type of edible seaweed) so Haruko can't use HIS head as a portal (I can't really say anything as a definite because I hardly ever see FLCL anymore and even then, it's the first two-three episodes).
Yeah lol. The show had a few American/Western hemisphere references, including the scene in the barber shop where it switches from regular animation to South Park animation and the mention of classic rock and alt rock bands.
@DaedalusPyronide Well, I don't know if eating an orgasm, in itself, is even possible, but I'm sure eating some hot chick's juicy pussy would probably suffice! lol *om nom nom* :P
I have mixed feelings about the idea of this being someone's first anime. It's a two-edged sword, you know? On one hand, it is probably one of the best animes ever so you were given a royal introduction into the genre, but now you really don't have anywhere to go but down after this. Just the same, this story is magic. :D
best anime ever. period end of story. great music. idk y i loved it so much seeing as i didnt understand half of it. maybe thats what drew me in, idk good vid
Lol the eyebrow guy i feel sorry for him cause his eyebrows were fake and Haruko said he had a small penis cause he could only pull a slingshot out of his head Lmao FLCL FOREVER!!!
I don't watch much anime nor have I ever picked up a manga/ comic. But this was the only Anime I have ever watched. I remember when I was a middle school student staying up very late to see this show. Back then I loved it for the music, crazy action, characters, and the overall experience. The culmination of exotic feelings, high energy, imagination, innocence, and memories you have as a kid fades away as you grow older. The bad thing about getting old, you grow mature and find ugly truths.

also, naota's name is not takkun or ta-kun, mamimi or what ever her name is was obsessed with naota's brother. She also names all of her pets takkun too.
Ah, also consider that the manga was created AFTER the anime. So it's sort of a split universe. Ugh... great, now i'm gonna have to finish reading the manga ASAP! DX
I'm so glad they never attempted a sequel to the short-lived FLCL series. To do so would pretty much be doomed to failure and cheapen the memory of the original.

Am I missing something? Please tell me if so, I WANT TO LOVE THIS SERIES, BUT I CANT IF YOU DON'T HELP.
@tnpan you must look past the obvious into the deeper meaning within the imagery, this show is basically one huge symbolic metaphorical congregation of some of the most basic human instincts and obstacles we all, despite our background have to deal with as we grow up and as life moves on, from relationships to loss to the general feeling of insignificance of mundane life, and it demonstrates through metaphor how to overcome them and move on...also there's like 100 sexual innuendos which are fun
@tnpan ????? you're kidding right? FLCL did in six episodes what no other anime could do in over 300 eps. The plot is fucking amazing but most people are unable to understand it because so much is implied. That's the thing i love about it, nothing is spoonfed to you you have to figure it out for yourself and there's SO many interpretations of it. Read the light novels, a lot of it will become clearer to you.
But when Japan is proven not to be the only industry and proves that it fell in love with American culture as it grew some balls and was able to gain its industries back and finally accept the future. (ERI the purple haired girl), basically accepting the fact that tradition will always be around but that foreign influence is also a good thing. Haruko (America), suffering defeat decides that it'll go look for industrial power somewhere else and that at the end. their still a kid
The Final battle: Haruka (America) had gotten infuriated that POst atom bomb japan had finally grown some balls and had achieved the one thing that they were manipulating them for. Industrial power, The battle was a symbolism of a now fully functional post atom bomb japan with huge industries with much better technology than America going up against the American Industry. In the end all the help and influence that the American Culture brought to them, is what helped them get so far.
@Raxer21 Naturally, as Atomsk escaped, Haruko had to follow him to continue her mission of pursuing him. Why else would she have asked Naota to come along after all was said and done, if she hadn't loved him back? She had no other manipulative use for him now with Atomsk being set free. In the end though, he needed to just be a kid for once, and after meeting Haruko, he was at last able to just be himself
I don't think it is so much that Haruko had manipulative feelings towards Naota, I think it was that as an alien herself, Haruko was incapable of love. I think she was meant to portray a sort of ideal woman in terms of a sex-goddess and as a superhero, but I think she was also meant to be shown as an unreachable icon, a dream that may never have been real, but is unnatainable anyways, just like Naota's brother is a dream to Naota's "girlfriend"
@StricknSTW I disagree. And it would seem Yoji Enokido himself does too. A direct quote from Haruko in the novelization: "What's the issue? Everyone needs love, until they die." And while there is some paralellism between Tasuku and Haruko, the difference is Tasuku kept Naota hiding in his shadow, while Haruko helped him find that he was his own person and didn't need validation from others to feel confident. And those "unreachable" dreams are reachable if you just "swing the bat" =)
The older generation are pretty much useless in this part, their only power is influencing post atomb bomb japan so that they may not be forgotten in the future. Many of them never really understood of the economic and real world issues that plagued any continent and many of them didnt grow up, case in point Naota's family. THE mayor
The greatest anime to last 6 episodes

Probably one of the best animated works ever.
And definitively a metaphor or two, not precisely about puberty but certainly about growing up and standing for yourself.

@29mysticwarrior

@29mysticwarrior That's a good point, I did not know about that novelization.
I have to agree with you now.
I love how deep FLCL is when you think about it.

The older generation are pretty much useless in this part, their only power is influencing post atomb bomb japan so that they may not be forgotten in the future. Many of them never really understood of the economic and real world issues that plagued any continent and many of them didnt grow up, case in point Naota's family. THE mayor
