  • I could not remember the title; but as soon as the music started, wonderful old thoughts came back - thanks for the chance to relive this track

  • You never know if the right people could connect; Helen could take off like a jet on the oldies radio networks!

  • "Sometime Yesterday" Lovely tune, Beautiful lyrics, by an amazing beautiful singer. Ah.... teenage love, locked in the pages of our memories, that take some of us, way way back, where our hearts ... never forget our first love.

  • forget Winehouse Helen Shapiro was brilliant & continues to be so..the 27 club is for deadbeats...

  • I must be honest.. I have never heard of this woman. And here it is 2011. What a voice! Imagine what she would have become with some excellent song writers, producers and promoters in her corner... What a shame. One can only hope for reincarnation to be true... Let's see her again.

  • @bosatsu76 YES! That was helens problem she needed better prudecers, and promoters to get her better songs and she would have been a bigger hit all through the 60's. Love You Helen... Sir David

  • This kind of voice only comes 'once in a century'

  • I never heard of her...got here via a Gene Vincent clip. For such a young looking woman she has a very mature voice.

  • It was the groups i.e.The Beatles that became popular that made

it hard for helen and many other solo singers to continue with their success(except Cliff Richard who was always successful)

  • i watched the movie on tcm! i loved it! helen was great and the music was fun.

  • The more I hear of her, the more I like her. I love this song.

  • The song in this video "Sometime Yesterday" is my very favorite song by Helen Shapiro. I am an american that has a deep appreciation of her enormous talent that she possesses. In the early 1960's we americans were deprived of her talent, so we must make up for lost time. The british people have educated us americans in regard to her talent and for this I am very grateful. God bless Helen Shapiro. Henry W. Pope, Putnam Valley, New York

  • @henrywpope1 american are deprived of lots of things control by the media euro music arrived in south africa australian south america .. and vice -versa..and today ....europe as turn america disco in to a new music. the world is not america ..long live helen shapiro.

  • THIS is the song I would sing... If I could go on "Americas Got Talent" (in drag), or audition for a Drag Review Club.

I LOVE this song. I love Helen Shapiro... (and I saw TMC in the corner of the screen for a second,)

  • Fantástica!

  • Someone else said that it was a shame that her managers locked her into this "pop teen beat" stuff. Imagine what she would have done with good songs. This is probably true for many of the 50's-70's girl singers who lacked independence to do what they wanted. Man was she good.

  • a dream (never come true)to youngs of those years in SouthAfr fly to Europe in PanAm or SAA.SAL scape of authoritarian teachers polisie,pa,ma,reverends ,predikants or rabbis..cry beloved country we bwanna be FREE¡¡

  • in South Africa was side A. 45 record

  • je ne cesse de lecouté cette chanson tres belle

  • Alright, I feel like Im stalking Helen! LOL! Im her newest, biggest fan!

  • Just stumbled upon this video/song and I think it's great! How did we manage to let stuff like this disappear until YouTube, etc? Charming... lovely! Maybe it'll all come back one day for real and not as nostalgia.

  • The Untied States and Great Britain failed miserably when we followed the group singers in the early 60's, lots of talent resided in the single singers. However we have these videos to be thankful for.

  • Nothing can match this The finest England Ever Produced

  • nº1 in SouthAfrica-SuidAfrika 62

  • @vertxxgg Thank you for that information. Helen's chart career in the UK was nearly over by the time this recording was released. It's all the more remarkable that she got to number one in South Africa with a UK B side, and you may agree with me that this 'Sometime Yesterday' is a better track than the A side, 'Let's Talk About Love'.

  • @1962Rebel mean nº1 in my room dis 45 b side..skooljare in SouthAfrika in 70s..see video :skooljare -Lianie May:

  • ThankYou ! Helen and autor and ansamble !

  • I think this her best song ever. But it's definitely my favourite.

  • @closedcircle1 I was born in 62 btw.

  • The song in this video is my very favorite song by Helen Shapiro, Helen looks very beautiful in this video. Regards: Henry W. Pope, Putnam Valley, New York

  • sorry to be superficial....But she is Lovely....

  • @jjacobs891 You are just being honest and I have to agree with you wholeheartedly. Also she made it big at a time when the music industry was very male dominated. Her brilliant talent shone through and the whole country was captivated with her youth and great voice.

  • @jjacobs891 she's certainly a sweetheart...

  • All Jewish girls are incredibly talented, Helen is no exception to the rule...

What a wonderful era, when every woman & girl had to wear a mile high wig boofante, even if they had pretty hair already! Thanks for posting this wonderful memory.

  • One of my favourite Helen Shapiro tunes, simply beautiful!!!!!! thanks for posting!

  • Our very best no question

  • She had a great voice.

  • @GracieFleury

    Hi,still has a great voice.

  • @BEATLE1947 She sure does.

  • My Aunt Helen turned 90 yesterday March 15.

  • My aunt Helen turned 90 yesterday. Her late daughter would be 4 years older than Helen S.

  • I would like to thank you 1962 Rebel for your very valuable information in regard to the title of the film "it's trad dad". The title song "Sometime Yesterday" is a song that I Never get tired of hearing. Helen Shapiro is a class act and so are you 1962 Rebel. Respectfully: Henry W. Pope Putnam Valley, New York

  • Henry,

hello, did you know that Helen wrote a book called "walking back to happiness" describing her life from a child until the present. Very interesting, inspiring, and realy makes her "come alive". I am all finished reafing it- if you want me to send it to you, just let me know.

    Kent Krajick, Farmington, CT

  • @tazotea1 Send it to me... I'll mail it back after reading it!

    I love Helen Shapiro!

  • Of all the great songs that Helen Shapiro sung, this song "Sometime Yesterday" is my very favorite song by her. She was 15 years of age and very beautiful at the shooting of this video, but I don't know the name of the motion picture. Perhaps one of the distinguished commentators in England can assist me with this question. Helen, in closing this American admires you very much. Regards: Henry W. Pope, Putnam Valley, New York

  • Hi Henry

The film from which this clip comes from is 'It's Trad Dad' which is the UK title it was released under in 1962. It was released in the US with the title 'Ring A Ding'.

  • 1962Rebel,

I can't tell you how long I've been searching for this song (and film clip) but thanks a million for having it. It always bothered me that Helen never seemed to get the proper management she deserved. She could have been alot bigger if she had the right people working for her. Thanks again.

  • sorry, meant to type 15 years old. Didn't the boys write "Misery" for her?

  • That's what I read, but, her management turned it down without even letting her at least listening to it. They also turned down her singing "It's My Party", which probably would have helped boost her stardom in the US.

  • man, what pipes! You mean to say she's 13 years old here?

  • thanks rebel1962 i had never heard of her but now ive heard a lot of songs.but w the brits comin on i wonder y she didnt ride the wave she had the talent but i guess pet clark and dusty s beat her 2 the punch

  • Thanks for the info. 1962Rebel. Having been a big Beatle's fan since 1976 I have recently become interested in pre-Beatles UK music. Also having been born in late 1961 I find it quite interesting view the footage of "Waking Back to Happiness" . John in Calgary,Alberta Canada

  • Great voice, thanx Helen.

  • Did she ever tour in North America? Such an excellent voice from another time time. Todays music could learn a valuable lesson in that most people enjoy hearing the words of songs...

  • I don't think she ever did tour the USA. Certainly never during the period of her two year UK chart career. But she did go to Nashville to record an album in 1963 and there are some good tracks on it. She toured the UK in early 1963 and amazingly the Beatles were her supporting act. The writing was on the wall and the rest as they say is history. When she catapulted to the top of the UK charts in 1961 she was still only 14 years old.

  • @1962Rebel

If she was in Nashville in 1963 she must have met Skeeter Davis. Wow! Excellant.

  • @trailboyus66 I suspect she would have done and I remember that was the year that Skeeter Davis had a huge hit on both sides of the Atlantic with 'The End of the World', one of my all time favourites. Have you ever heard the Carpenter's version from their excellent 1973 album 'Now and Then'. It's well worth a listen. Derek

  • @1962Rebel Yes I have and it's very touching. These artists have a special touch that will never be duplicated. I had the honor of meeting the late Skeeter Davis in Sep of 1973 when she came to Salem Mo. to perform @ our Fall Festival. She was rained out but moved to Salem City Hall. I spoke with her after her performance. The nicest person I have ever met. There is a move to get her inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. We are hoping someday.

  • @trailboyus66 What an absolute privilege that you got to meet with and talk to her. I wholeheartedly agree with you that we won't see the likes of these unique artists from the 1960s again. And I also hope that she gets her much deserved place in the Country Music Hall of Fame. I was very surprised to hear that she hadn't already been inducted.

  • wonderful.

  • What a voice as I have said before our very best no question about it

  • The title song in this video "Sometime Yesterday" is my very favorite song by Helen Shapiro. She looks so beautiful in this video. Helen Shapiro is not only blessed with a great voice but she has a great singing style. I am an American who truly admires this multitalented individual. I can truly understand why the British audience loves her so because this American loves her very much too. Respectfully: Henry W. Pope

  • Hi Henry. Thanks for your comments. Unfortunately US audiences were denied Helen's great talent from mid 1961 till the end of her UK chart career in late 1963. There was a bias against British acts then in the US until the dam finally broke with the the Beatles. Helen was swept away by the Mersey groups and it is only through Youtube that many older pop fans are discovering what they missed back then. Happy New Year. Derek

  • @1962Rebel Yes it's real sad we didn't get to hear this. Sort of like when J.F.K.

was killed. It's like a twilight zone episode

What would the World have been like if just one thing like this had been different.

I think it would have been a much better place.

  • I mentioned Helen @The Royal Guardsmens snoopy-Christmas site yesterday.

We will see if that might spike some interest in letting this generation know who Helen was and is today....

  • Never knew Helen in her prime, I was a bit young I guess. But have discovered these great testaments to her sound and talent. Her look and sound, that rare vocal quality is strangely compelling and now I watch these videos regularly. Never too late i guess...great stuff.

  • Terrific singer

  • Love you Helen. It would be a great testimony to perform your old songs along with your gospel music..

  • She's one of the coolest chicks ever..

  • i saw him walking sometime yesterday

  • A great talent who deseved International

    fame (aka Dusty Springfield,Petula Clark

Marieanne Faithful.) Thanks for the Clip!!

  • She was better than all of them put together

  • They were all great add Sandie Shaw ,but the Girl from Bethnal Green East London was far and away the best

  • i dscovered Helen when she's singing to The Beatles ("Look Who It Is" (Love that song)) and i just lover her voice she is very talented :D

  • I've only discovered Helen in recent years and I love her style, her sound and look, and these videos really capture that early 60's time when I was such an impressionable youngster. Great stuff, wish she could do this stuff forever!

  • a wonderfull and beautifull singer, a voice that echoed and expressed how she felt. She also starred in the tv series ALBION MARKET

  • Bliss. Probably the greatest female singer the UK has ever had, imho.

  • She was the greatest the UK has ever had,and nothing from the USA has ever matched her unique voice

  • @burnley5960 I need to disagree with you on that. She's very, very good, but the USA had Karen Carpenter who also had a rich, alto voice. Perhaps it wasn't as pretty as Helen's, but Karen's voice had the same quality.

  • Karen had a good voice, but for me she never had the Raw power of Helen Shapiro but its all down to personal taste

  • wonderfull thanks

  • lovely helen really sings this song so good..brings back memories..she was such a sweetie in the 60s....taylor oz

  • If only 'Britains Got Talent' could turn up somebody as gorgeous and as talented.

    Beautiful !!

  • Thanks for the awesome memories.

My cousin Beverly B. from Licking Mo.

looks like Helen S. Bev was 16 in 1962.

  • Helen looks like my cousin Beverly did in 1962 when she was 16.

Bev and I are the youngest in the family.

I am several years younger; but I do have memories of those priceless days of the early and mid 1960's.

    Thanks for those awesome memories.

  • wow this was on tcm? i just noticed

  • very nice song. very rare deep voice from a young woman, i think it's a deeper alto than lesley gore

  • ik mag dan een jonge vent van 27 wezen maar van dit nummer word ik stil van. zulke muziek maken ze tegenwoordig niet meer.

  • Word-by-word this happend to me in '62 with a boy called...Y

How teenage love remains in our heart's... :)

  • I've loved her voice from the first time I heard it. And just love her more as time goes by.

Another American down South who wishes we'd heard more of her back in the '60's.

  • 1962Rebel: I apologize very much...I hurried to this video thinking it was posted by SirBasildeBrush. I didn't mean to take the credit away from you. The clip just struck me hard. (recent family death,) please accept my sincerest apology and THANKS VERY MUCH FOR POSTING THE COMPLETE CLIP. THANKS TO ALL MY FRIENDS WHO HAVE HELPED ME WITH HELEN. I OWE YOU ALL B-I-G T-I-M-E

    Slightly embarrassed Wayne in Texas.

  • SIR B: I have never seen this clip complete. Sir B,please know how much your postings are making this American's life a little more tolerable.Helen tugs at the heart just as Patsy Cline does. It may sound a bit silly to those lucky enough to have heard these recording for decades, but I have just discovered Helen on May 3, 2008. THANKS to "Sir B," and Youtube. To actually see her perform takes my breath away. "Sir B," I owe you big time. Serious, not silly, just an old man with young memories.

  • Wow - haven't seen this film in such a long time. Amazing to Helen sing this. Big thanks.

  • Her voice is just.........wondeful beatiful!! Is this from a movie or something?

  • Yes it's from a British film released in 1962 called It's Trad Dad and also features US artists Gene Vincent, Gary US Bonds, Del Shannon, Chubby Checker, Gene McDaniels, and British artists Helen Shapiro, Craig Douglas, the Brook Brothers and John Leyton.

  • oh, thanks!

  • oh i love you helen.... im smitten...

  • Thank you ;-)
