  • A great anthem arena rock right here =]

  • whoa, REO and Kiss? what a mix of fans but then I was not expecting Buckwheat Zydeco to open for U2 either never heard of him before or much after that

  • @horseboyken yeah, i had gavin degraw open up for the allman brothers... you never know!

  • was that at Cal-Expo Ampitheater? I saw the first concert there, Hagar back in 82

  • WOAH! That flying v is either the Gibby Custom Shop model or a REAL 1958 Korina V. Awesome performance, love REO. Everyone here in Champaign is proud to tell people where these guys are from :)

  • i remember when they sang this live way before there was anything like video,s or even casset tapes. all we had then was the old vinyl and wow did it sound good on a set of cerwin vega sp,s

  • Too bad the origibal members had to go seperate ways, Kevin entered and basically took over which was awsome for the band back when they made it but, it would be awsome to see everyone in the group just one more time. Like most groups from the 70s they replaced people to stay alive.

  • What a high energy talent...never did they waver or weaken....amen

  • Kevin always gets everyone really "into it"

    great show every time.

  • I could be wrong...but when this song came out...I don't think that Gary was the guitarist.. it was another dude..and it was also another singer..but I have my own brain cells that were lost!!!

  • According to Wikipedia, Gary Richrath wrote the song; Kevin Cronin wasn't in the band yet. I'm surprised they're still allowed to play it without Gary in the band.

  • this song was before cronin joined the band. i think michael murphy was the original vocalist on this song.

  • Your right, Kevin did not sing it originaly, but he copied it pretty much. Gary did the orignal licks though. Kevin left the band for a short time, but the band asked him to come back, and he replied," What took you guys so long?"

Gary got "kicked out" because of his drug preblem. I really don't know if he ever got clean, but I sure hope he did. He was always a good guy in my book.

  • 32 years later! they are Lucky they can still play & sing RIDING THE STORM OUT!! IT WAS ALWAY A GOOD PARTYN SONG, ESPECIALLY IN YOUR CAR!

  • I like kevin cronin. I never paid attention till he showed up

  • I agree. I just got back from an REO/STYX concert. Kevin Cronin still has more raw energy than anyone else in Rock-n-roll history!

  • Saw them with Kiss in '75 LOL still LOVE THEM!

    ROCK ON REO!!!

  • I have seen them 6-7 times. Love them! They played at the County Fair and State fairs in Illinois, for a few years. Oh the memories and fun, from what I remember, LOL

Thanks for posting, and thanks wild!

  • hahaha! ROCK N ROLL!!! We ain't old-we better!

my cousin saw them this past summer-she said they died when the lead guitarist said-we are a whole lot older-but still just as horny! LOL

They are good people tho-I got to party with them one night-I've seen them sev Xs too-but they are good people. Good you enjoyed this! ^j^

  • : 0 reminds me-you seen the moon tonight? It is so pretty! tonight. Rockin Robin! <3

    AIN'T MISSIN A THANG! LOL

  • We got to open for them at Detweiller Park, not because we were good, because our lead guitarist and I knew Gary. We were scared shitless, but at least we didn't get boo'd off the stage. Thanks to the people that were there.

  • @wildflowersandi Wow you are sooo lucky!! What a great concert that was and I bet you didn't even pay $15.00 for it did you?

  • Best Of the Best ! Their Sound Rocks*

  • im a big fan of reospeedwagon

  • just saw em live, loved it. REO SPEEDWAGON is living proof that rock and roll lives on forever.

  • Me too thats Good Taste : p

  • That first picture wasn't 1974. Cronin wasn't with the band then, and neither was Bruce Hall (Far Right). I'd say this is between 1978-80

  • I'm thinkin the same thing right now. Wyoming , people.

  • I remember the first time I got high. Ridin the storm out was blarin. 1977 maybe. Will never forget REO. Love it then love it now.

  • amen.

kevin cronin kicks so much assss.

  • REO played last night at my school.

  • so ur the fucker who took the name i wanted lmao jk

  • Well, sorry man. It pays to be first i guess, lol.

  • Bring back THE MASTER.......Gary

  • its called ridin the storm out

  • how would you know, Jethro?

  • i just saw these guys last weekend along with kansas and 38 special in kansas city

    it rocked all hell!!!1111SHIFT ONE

  • I'm seeing them this Saturday at NIU, I'm really excited for this song, but I will definitely miss gary. The solos in this song definitely are missing some flare, but otherwise, everything else was amazing!

  • I see why they are playin the fair..This is the worst version ever....Where is Gary....Need to hang it up....

  • saw these guys in Michigan, 2004. Amazing show. Seriously blew me away. What a GREAT live band.....wow

  • Mooseboy. This what I like about You-Tube. Different opinions. Dave Amato was quoted as saying that his goal was to give justice to the songs Gary played on. While I respect your comments, those who grew up listening to REO by in large prefer Gary. Yours opinion is one of the first I've every seen prefering Amato. Thanks for your opinion. I respect it.

  • Better song writter and better pretty good keyboards player. Players did not get all the panties thrown on stage. He had to do the guitar thing. Great overall singer, player and cool guy.

  • Well, there's always room for opinion, isn't there?

In my opinion, Gary R. was a weak guitarist. Listen to any solo on any REO recording, and Gary always puts in some dopey note that's reallllly high, and realllly wrong. And he seems to revel in it, no idea why.

The guitarist on this live recording blows away anything that Gary R. did. My opinion- your mileage may vary.

  • Aaah yes! Love those Richrath sharp notes, YEEOOOUUACH!! & those Kevin Croninisms !!!

  • I am a Richrath fan, so I feel he will never be replaced. I understand why they let him go, but I still miss Gary.

  • yeah me too. he was one of my favorite guitarists when i was younger and just learning how to play.

  • REO is a mere shell of it's old self. No due to age but due to a lacl of Gary Richrath. He was and will always be the heart and soul of this band. I feel sorry for Dave trying to fill the shoes of a real "Rock God" guitarist like Gary Richrath. Gary, I hope the days comes when you decide to get back in the saddle and get serious about music again. IT IS NOT TOO LATE. Until then, feel free to enjoy this watered down version of what use to be a great band.

  • This guitarist is trying t be way to technical for this solo part , it lacks feeling and taste IMO but I am very partial to Gary , he was such a master. I play this song alot like Gary did and I love the way the solo and the rythm mix together to make 1 sound when it is played correctly.

  • What a great song! Amato is a great guitarist, but you're right, he's no Richrath. REO still rocks playing the oldies, but their studio albums definately lack the rock tunes. Cronin doesn't have anyone to counter his "folk" side. That's where Richrath is mostly missed, in my opinion.

  • I was there. A great preformance !

  • People that say that REO has "slowed down" just don't understand music. They've tweaked the arrangement a little from the old days to better work w/ Cronin's admittedly somewhat aged voice and to give the tune just a bit more rhythm. It's most noticeable in the chorus....Cronin's voice articulations are a bit more on the lower end of his range, and the second syllable of "ri-din" is more emphatic.

As good as any other version of Ridin' the Storm Out.

  • hell yea....Im seeing them in a month and itll be awesome

  • saw them live on this tour

they still kick ass and even though dave amato is no gary richrath, he is still REALLY good, has been in band almost 20 years, and sings WICKED high harmonies

  • Amazing to hear what was once such an energetic song performed with no energy! They shoulda stayed on the bus and drank some cranberry juice. Terrible.

  • You are actually serious? Listen to something different then. Plug in the original live version from 76', if you even own it!

  • HAHA, wow man you are funny. Granted, they may have slowed a little in 35 yrs....but only a little...Cmon, you can't be serious.

  • nvm

  • was this concert at the coors ampatheatre in colorado?

  • They are and always have been so great live.

  • AMAZING! So good live. SOOO good.
