i love KCs hair in 74. I was trying to get that hair in 86.Ipossible to have that hair UNLESS YOU R born w/ natural curls. Also MPOSSIBLE in the PNW. GREW up in Mid west snow..still not possible in the snow.lol,,either are NIKES,lol MOON BOOTS NOW!
whoa, REO and Kiss? what a mix of fans but then I was not expecting Buckwheat Zydeco to open for U2 either never heard of him before or much after that
WOAH! That flying v is either the Gibby Custom Shop model or a REAL 1958 Korina V. Awesome performance, love REO. Everyone here in Champaign is proud to tell people where these guys are from :)
i remember when they sang this live way before there was anything like video,s or even casset tapes. all we had then was the old vinyl and wow did it sound good on a set of cerwin vega sp,s
Too bad the origibal members had to go seperate ways, Kevin entered and basically took over which was awsome for the band back when they made it but, it would be awsome to see everyone in the group just one more time. Like most groups from the 70s they replaced people to stay alive.
I could be wrong...but when this song came out...I don't think that Gary was the guitarist.. it was another dude..and it was also another singer..but I have my own brain cells that were lost!!!
According to Wikipedia, Gary Richrath wrote the song; Kevin Cronin wasn't in the band yet. I'm surprised they're still allowed to play it without Gary in the band.
Your right, Kevin did not sing it originaly, but he copied it pretty much. Gary did the orignal licks though. Kevin left the band for a short time, but the band asked him to come back, and he replied," What took you guys so long?"
Gary got "kicked out" because of his drug preblem. I really don't know if he ever got clean, but I sure hope he did. He was always a good guy in my book.
I have seen them 6-7 times. Love them! They played at the County Fair and State fairs in Illinois, for a few years. Oh the memories and fun, from what I remember, LOL
We got to open for them at Detweiller Park, not because we were good, because our lead guitarist and I knew Gary. We were scared shitless, but at least we didn't get boo'd off the stage. Thanks to the people that were there.
I'm seeing them this Saturday at NIU, I'm really excited for this song, but I will definitely miss gary. The solos in this song definitely are missing some flare, but otherwise, everything else was amazing!
Mooseboy. This what I like about You-Tube. Different opinions. Dave Amato was quoted as saying that his goal was to give justice to the songs Gary played on. While I respect your comments, those who grew up listening to REO by in large prefer Gary. Yours opinion is one of the first I've every seen prefering Amato. Thanks for your opinion. I respect it.
Better song writter and better pretty good keyboards player. Players did not get all the panties thrown on stage. He had to do the guitar thing. Great overall singer, player and cool guy.
Well, there's always room for opinion, isn't there?
In my opinion, Gary R. was a weak guitarist. Listen to any solo on any REO recording, and Gary always puts in some dopey note that's reallllly high, and realllly wrong. And he seems to revel in it, no idea why.
The guitarist on this live recording blows away anything that Gary R. did. My opinion- your mileage may vary.
REO is a mere shell of it's old self. No due to age but due to a lacl of Gary Richrath. He was and will always be the heart and soul of this band. I feel sorry for Dave trying to fill the shoes of a real "Rock God" guitarist like Gary Richrath. Gary, I hope the days comes when you decide to get back in the saddle and get serious about music again. IT IS NOT TOO LATE. Until then, feel free to enjoy this watered down version of what use to be a great band.
This guitarist is trying t be way to technical for this solo part , it lacks feeling and taste IMO but I am very partial to Gary , he was such a master. I play this song alot like Gary did and I love the way the solo and the rythm mix together to make 1 sound when it is played correctly.
What a great song! Amato is a great guitarist, but you're right, he's no Richrath. REO still rocks playing the oldies, but their studio albums definately lack the rock tunes. Cronin doesn't have anyone to counter his "folk" side. That's where Richrath is mostly missed, in my opinion.
People that say that REO has "slowed down" just don't understand music. They've tweaked the arrangement a little from the old days to better work w/ Cronin's admittedly somewhat aged voice and to give the tune just a bit more rhythm. It's most noticeable in the chorus....Cronin's voice articulations are a bit more on the lower end of his range, and the second syllable of "ri-din" is more emphatic.
As good as any other version of Ridin' the Storm Out.
they still kick ass and even though dave amato is no gary richrath, he is still REALLY good, has been in band almost 20 years, and sings WICKED high harmonies
Amazing to hear what was once such an energetic song performed with no energy! They shoulda stayed on the bus and drank some cranberry juice. Terrible.

That first picture wasn't 1974. Cronin wasn't with the band then, and neither was Bruce Hall (Far Right). I'd say this is between 1978-80
